    The crowd was sitting down because this song was recorded at an award show. Opening announcement made by soft rock performer Toni Tennille from the married duo Captain & Tennille who had lots of hits in the 70s. They crossed over into R&B music during the late 80s. This was one of the first biggest chart toppers from an R&B/Funk group of male musicians who had some hits from the 70s. The was the first song that featured newest lead singer James JT Taylor who recorded a few solo albums with a couple of R&B hits for fans.

    The audience close-ups show Dionne Warwick and Bernadette Peters, who is a queen of Broadway musicals. Kool and the Gang have a great string of hits and you can easily find more to hear. Seeing Dionne in the audience reminds me of the tribute show that was for her which features one of the best live music videos on the internet - Luther Vandross singing "A House Is Not a Home". AMBER AND J, YOU HAVE TO HEAR JUNGLE BOOGIE BY THEM! IT'S ICONIC!
    It's funny because the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack was the very first 8-track that my parents bought when they finally went and got us a home stereo system from Kmart in the early to mid 70s. And it's a fantastic soundtrack and the Bee Gees are only on a couple of them. Disco Inferno by the Disco band Tramp, was a huge huge deal and the whole soundtrack is really really good.

  • @Musicvegan01
    @Musicvegan01 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    The "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack was a 2 record set (or 1 8-track tape) when it was originally released. The majority of it was previously released songs, like "Disco Inferno" by The Trammps which y'all recently reacted to. The Kool & The Gang song on it is "Open Sesame", which is pre- James JT Taylor (the lead singer here). Their very early stuff had a more jazz sound & was sometimes instrumental like "Summer Madness", which you might have heard sampled in "Summertime" by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. Madonna wasn't out yet when "Ladies Night" was released in 1979, that was Bernadette Peters in the audience, an actress/singer.

    Kool and the Gang was created in the early 70's by Robert "Kool" Bell who plays bass guitar and his brother Ronald Bell who played Saxophone. It was originally a Contemporary Jazz band. Their first hit was a Contemporary Jazz number titled Summer Madness which can be heard in the movie Rocky 2. The band then turned to playing Funk music and had a huge hit titled Jungle Boogie that was featured in the movie Saturday Night Fever. As the 70's were coming to an end and the 80's were ahead, the band decided to take a direction more toward R&B/Pop music. They hired James "J.T." Taylor to be their front man and lead singer. Kool and the Gang would fill the 80's with hit after hit and become a mainstay on the radio.
    Other great hits by Kool and the Gang include:
    1. Celebration
    2. Let's Go Dancing
    3. Joanna
    4. Cherish
    5. Jungle Boogie
    6. Summer Madness
    7. Too Hot
    8. Mislead

    Amber & Jordan, Kool And The Gang have been around since the mid 60's n their still playing in 2021. J. T. Taylor was the lead singer of the band for most of their songs, then he left the group to go solo. Kool & the Gang is an American R&B/funk band formed in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1964 by brothers Robert "Kool" Bell and Ronald Bell, with Dennis "Dee Tee" Thomas, Robert "Spike" Mickens, Charles Smith, George Brown, and Ricky West. They have a lot of great hits that U guys have to react. Celebration; Ladies Night (Long Version); Jungle Boogie; Hollywood Swinging; Summer Madness(Instrumental); Cherish; Too Hot; Joanna; Emergency; Misled; and many great hits. Hope U guys continue to react to Kool And The Gang.

    This is the best of the best by Kool and the Gang. I feel this song started the phenomenon of "Ladies Nights" at all the clubs! This song was a mega hit in the late seventies (1979). This song brought everyone to the dance floor then and it still does today! They were super successful in the seventies and eighties with a string of hits like; "Too Hot", "Celebration", "Joanna", "Cherish", and more! ❤❤

    Oh what a night. I love Kool & the gang. I was into big band music but I was a little kid. And being it was the Disco era. These men did the best job of smashing the two together. I also play the trumpet, so when those horns blow you got to get on your feet! At least I do. They also brought a word to our vocabulary a word you don't hear any more. This music was downright "funk", a one-of-a-kind groove. I agree with you, how can that audience just sit there!!! They even mix some Marvin Gaye in. Sophisticated mama, what a voice for a generation.

    The “ Lady” that introduced them is Toni Tennille of the duo The Captain and Tennille, I think you may have done a few of their songs, they had hits in the late 70’s and the early 80’s like “ Do That To Me One More Time “ and “ Love Will Keep Us Together “ . She should have been a huge star imo she has a great voice!
