1984 folks This was a billboard top 10. The term “Fresh” was very popular in the early 1980’s Thanks haven’t heard this since my early days of college.
Kool and the Gang is probably one of the best bands ever besides Earth Wind and Fire. Their music spands decades starting in the 60's. This song came out in the 80's Fresh is definately an 80's term. This one of my favorites.
The dancer in the video was the lead dancer on "Solid Gold". It was a tv show that had different musical guests & did a count down of current music. She was also in "Thriller" with Michael Jackson in the ending group dancer. She stands almost directly behind him.
"Too Hot" is another banger from them, killer bassline and very sensual. This was the 80's. Fresh was an 80's term that meant Great, awesome, fantastic, cool and fashionable.
Clearly these two are some idiots because they don’t know the years of this music with so much technology out here and they’re clearly oblivious to this music like they’ve been under a rock u can’t blame it on age either because when I was younger I knew all of the Motown music and I wasn’t even born then so yea these two are idiots I can’t stand this generation
Kool and The Gang had two stages, the early and mid 70’s R&B, funk ,Soul and jazz era and with the addition of the lead singer here James J.T. Taylor many late 70’s and 80’s R&B , funk, disco and pop hits. Both eras made this group legendary . Many hits to dive into, especially Jungle Boogie, Ladies, Night, Take My Heart, Joanna, Stone Love, and Cherish.
What about the funk song Hollywood Swingin before JT joined the group. Then everyone's fav Get Down On It! I love JT! What a great preformer! (actually the whole group is the Bomb)
Thanks for bring us one of the greatest group of late 70s and 80!! they never stopped producing hits, and never let down in front of the overwhelming number of artists of the same style
I love Kool and the Gang! J. T. Taylor, the lead singer is so cute and so smooth! This song is from 1984. They had a string of hits in the late seventies and eighties! Check out Ladies Night, Get Down On It, Too Hot, Joanna, and many more!❤️❤️
I used to play Kool & The Gang in the car when my granddaughter was little and she knew this song by heart. Love this song and my little chickadee singing it!
Oh man I grew up listening to Kool and the Gang....such a awesome funky band....never tire of their music and infectious groove. Was honored to see some of their set at the 3rd year of music midtown.....so much fun 💗🕊️
One of if not my favorite band growing up. So many incredible hits at exactly the right time in my life. "Tonight you will finally see the light" So good.
New subscriber & 63 years young! Made me want to jump up on the lighted up dance floor & turn on the disco ball!! Love hearing you listen for the first time to such amazing music! Makes me feel young again! Love you two! ♥️♥️ Linda G
I used to do alot of disco dancing and all R&B dance steps. Bringing me back my sounds back. I really appreciate you two. Thanks for broadening your musical listening minds.
Kool and the Gang Were Awesome. The Bassline on this song is sick. One of the first ones I learned on the Bass in the early 80's. Yes their was Great Funk bands in the late 70's, I remember them well, But, Kool and the Gang were one of the best. Funky and Groovy with great vocals. Those were the days.
They actually started in 1964 and I think they still perform. I remember dancing to their music in the disco's in the 1970's. Oh those were the days!!!
How about a reaction to a Tulsa band that hit it huge? The GAP Band was formed by three brothers, Charlie, Robert, and Ronnie Wilson. GAP Band stands for "Greenwood, Archer, Pine" streets in Tulsa in remembrance of the Tulsa Race Massacre. They were a huge success in the 1980's but continued until retirement in 2010. The song that takes me back to my younger days is "You Dropped A Bomb On Me". It's a definite banger. I spent a summer in 1985 working at a seafood restaurant in a sailing resort area in southern Maryland. Everytime I would bring dishes back into the kitchen I would stick my head into the dishwasher area and sing out "You Dropped a Bomb On Me" to receive a chorus return "BABY!". This song was a dance hall favorite. You'll love it if you haven't already heard it.
Got to see Kool and the Gang in Oklahoma City at that amusement park many years ago. They were awesome. Misled is my favorite... I can still remember the first time I heard it.
Kool & the Gang is an American R&B/funk band formed in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1964 by brothers Robert "Kool" Bell and Ronald Bell, with Dennis "Dee Tee" Thomas, Robert "Spike" Mickens, Charles Smith, George Brown, and Ricky West. They have undergone numerous changes in personnel and have explored many musical styles throughout their history, including jazz, soul, funk, rock, and pop music. After settling on their name following several changes, the group signed to De-Lite Records and released their debut album, Kool and the Gang (1969). The band's first taste of success came with the release of their fourth album Wild and Peaceful (1973), which contained the US top-ten singles "Jungle Boogie"[1] and "Hollywood Swinging". Kool & the Gang subsequently entered a period of decline before they reached a second commercial peak between 1979 and 1986 following their partnership with Brazilian musician and producer Eumir Deodato and the addition of singer James "J.T." Taylor to the line-up. Their most successful albums of this period include Ladies' Night (1979), Celebrate! (1980), and Emergency (1984), their highest selling album with two million copies sold in the US. Their hit singles during this period included "Ladies' Night", the US No. 1 "Celebration", "Get Down on It", "Joanna", "Misled", and "Cherish". The band continues to perform worldwide, including as support for Van Halen in 2012 and their fiftieth-anniversary tour in 2014. Kool & the Gang have won numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, and, in 2006, a Music Business Association Chairman's Award for artistic achievement. As well the band has been inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame and been bestowed with a Mobo Award for Outstanding Achievement, the Soul Train Legend Award, the Marian Anderson Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. During 2018, the Bells, Brown, and Taylor were also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.[2][3][4][5] Their discography includes 23 studio albums and almost 70 singles. They have sold 7.5 million and 4.5 million RIAA-certified albums and singles, respectively, in the US.[6][7] Worldwide, they have sold 70 million albums.[8]
Three Kool and the Gang songs I love are "Cherish, the Love","Get Down on it" and "Too Hot". J.T.Taylor the lead singer was a School Teacher before joinng the gang.I'm so glad he did. He's Goooooood.
Kool and the Gang had two big musical eras in the '70s and '80s. I first heard their '80s ballads "Cherish" and "Joanna," then discovered their '70s material (Jungle Boogie, Hollywood Swinging) as I got older. I love their early '80s material the best including Celebration, Get Down on It, Misled, and Tonight. There's also a late '80s dance tune they did called "Stone Love" that's really catchy.
The album's producer, Jim Bonnefond, brought in songwriter Sandy Linzer to help with the lyrics. Linzer recalled: "They had a title, and they wanted a lyric about all the fresh things that were going on in the world. I just changed it to 'She's fresh,' wrote the lyrics to the verses, and submitted it." Could you please react to Celebration by kool and the gang 🙏
You gotta check out "Celebration!" Also, Kool is the bassist. I got to see them when they opened for Van Halen a few years ago and they were ON that night. The whole show was amazing. This is a rabbit hole y'all NEED to go down.
Amber, you have to introduce Jason to “Celebration” at least once, it’d be nice as a reaction but if not you owe it to him to hear that iconic tune. 🤘😎✌️💕
My baby sister went to Van Halen concert around 10 yrs ago and Kool and the Gang opened. She said all the ladies were screaming and danced thru their whole set. The women were so disappointed when Van Halen came out. They such had a way to get us on dance floor.
One of the few benefits of working in the casinos was the shows, I got to see Kool and the Gang a handful of times, always a good show even in the 2000’s
You guys must understand that this is a BAND...the video is fun to watch because it the MTV era. But to see this band live..was a true experience. The vocals and the band played their instruments...they really put on a real performance. Joanna was my jam!! If you get a chance to listen to that cut...the harmonies are just Stellar. Glad to see that the younger generation has some exposure to the R&B classics....Kool and the Gang was "smokin"...Enjoy. Hey...you guys should listen to some Stevie Wonder performances...you will get your minds blown!....Love the channel....KUDOS
This song was released in 1984 but their 1st big hit I remember is "Jungle Boogie" from 1973 when I was in 7th grade and it's one of my favorites. I loved the lead singer, James "J.T." Warren Taylor. They have many great songs like Hollywood Swinging, Ladies night and Get down on it. They were most popular from the 1970s & 1980s.
This is part of why I love this channel so much. I am familiar with some of Kool & the Gang's songs, but this is a new one for me. Definitely need to check out "Get Down On It" and "Jungle Boogie". Amber will especially enjoy "Jungle Boogie" because of its great horns. George Clinton's "Atomic Dog" is another great funk classic.
Always loved this group (and still do), LOTS of great songs from the 70's and 80's ("Fresh" is 80's by the way): "Cherish", "Get Down On It ", "Tonight", "Misled", "Joanna", "Ladies Night". "Celebration", "Too Hot", "Take My Heart (You Can Have It If You Want It", "Let's Go Dancin' (Ooh La, La, La), "Jungle Boogie".
Amazing group. So many great songs. The vocal phrasings in this song are incredible. It instantly locks you in. The verses are just as good as the chorus.
"Fresh" is off of the 1984 album "Emergency." Other songs from that album that also were hits include the title track "Emergency," "Misled," and "Cherish."
They started forming their band in the 60s but in the early 70s Jungle Boogie”was a big hit you might want to listen to it it’s really good. There songs were popular in the Discotheques!
You're taking me back with this one! This is my mom's music! Her and I sadly aren't on speaking terms currently and I don't see it being resolved but I'm currently happy with my husband and making a life of my own! This song is actually from 1984 off of their album "Emergency" which also had the hits "Emergency", "Misled" and one of their best slow jams, the number 1 hit "Cherish"
Really enjoyed the reaction 👍 I would definitely recommend 'Get Down On It' and 'Steppin Out' two absolute bangers!! Trust me you will not be able to sit still.
One of my favorite bands as a kid. I think you'll love their song Emergancy, it's hot, smooth, sweet and it has a great funky tune to it..You'll love it!
Take a look into their earlier stuff - Hollywood Swinging, Celebration, Jungle Boogie, Get down on It, Too Hot, Joanna. Hard to go wrong with most of their catalogue.
One of my Go to bands when doing a Disco and things need lifting up a level. You could even use their "Ladies Night" as a theme tune for Female Fridays lol
Yeah, a kind of a throwback to the 70's sound but definitely an 80's song. I remember it being popular in the 80's back in high school. I also remember their "Cherish" being quite popular back then as well. I always had to laugh whenever I heard this song because it always made me think of that Summer's Eve advertisement where that woman say's to her Mother, "Mom, aren't there times when you feel...less than fresh"?
Summer Madness is my #1 favorite jam by Kool and the Gang. It's a funky instrumental ditty by them but has a killer Bassline in the song Summer Madness that grabs you and hooks you in as soon as you first hears it and it pulls you in. You guys have to hear Summer Madness by Kool and the Gang if you get a chance.
I love Kool & the Gang! “Too Hot” and “Ladies Night” are just two of my many favorites of theirs. Want them to blow ur mind? Play their classic “Summer Madness” …long version 🔥🔥🔥
Along the same vein, I want to recommend a band that was the first music I ever bought. I bought the 45 of The Gap Band - Dropped a Bomb. I love that funk vibe.
"Fresh" is a song by the American group Kool & the Gang. Released as a single in 1984 from the album Emergency, the song peaked at #11 on the UK chart, #9 on the U.S. Hot 100 chart, and was number one on both the U.S. R&B and dance charts.[
Love me some Cool and The Gang! They were the first concerts I ever went to when I was a teenager, I think it was 1985, 15 years old, so much fun. Went with my bestie Joanne and she loved it because they had a song called Joanna so of course she felt like they were singing to her! 🤣🤣
This was the early 80's when bands like Prince and the Revolution took flight. It also created an entry point for other bands like Morris Albert and the Time.... per Jungle Love Sheila E with a new kid working with her who performed as Neo The Minneapolis bands were big at this time
Check out "Jungle boogie", "Get down on it", "Cherish", "Too hot", "Joanna", "Celebration", "Hollywood swinging"
And "Misled"
Ladies' Night too!
And 'Steppin out!'
Honest Abe doesn't lie
Don’t forget, “Tonight”!
1984 folks This was a billboard top 10. The term “Fresh” was very popular in the early 1980’s Thanks haven’t heard this since my early days of college.
Yep sure remember.
Don’t get fresh with me 😂
Kool and the Gang is probably one of the best bands ever besides Earth Wind and Fire. Their music spands decades starting in the 60's. This song came out in the 80's Fresh is definately an 80's term. This one of my favorites.

Damn right, it’s a shame
So true, ❤❤❤❤❤❤Kool & the gang

The Bass player on the song was “planking” the Bass something fierce! Never get tired of hearing this song.

Another really fun group was the Gap Band! "Early in the morning", "party train", and of course "you dropped a bomb on me"
Kool and the Gang's "Fresh" was released on November 24,1984 on the De-Lite Mercury label.
I love Kool & the Gang! “Too Hot” and “Ladies Night” are just two of my many favorites of theirs. Want them to blow ur mind? Play their classic “Summer Madness” …long version 🔥🔥🔥
I love Kool & the Gang! They've been on the 80s Cruise twice and still give a great performance!
Misled - Kool and the gang. Another banger off the same album as fresh! Thanks for bringing me back to memory lane with Fresh! Great reaction!
“Hollywood Swinging” and “Jungle Boogie” are my favorites. Got to see them at an Atlantic City casino years back. They were fantastic. So much fun.
Along the same vein, I want to recommend a band that was the first music I ever bought. I bought the 45 of The Gap Band - Dropped a Bomb. I love that funk vibe.
Oh yes, I love Kool and the Gang! Ladies Night, Joanna, and Cherish are also great ones to listen to. One of my favorite male voices to listen to.
They were a crossover band from the 70s to the 80s. This particular track was Early 80s. You can tell by the electronic drums and keys.
Ahh ... taking me back to 1984! This song was on the radio all the time. It's on my soundtrack to 6th grade!
Throwing out for next weeks female Friday.
Irene Cara “out here on my own”

Oh wow, they have such cool songs! This is one of my faves.
my 2 favs from Kool were always Celebration #1 and Get Down On It #2....both have great videos!!
This is one of my favorite old school tunes.
Kool and the Gang, OMG!!! And this song, brings back so many memories of my childhood. You can't help but dance to this song!!!

This song came out in 1984. I remember it. This band had hits during the 70’s and 80’s…this is 80’s.
True .. true!!! 😁
The lead singer participated in the supergroup, "Band-Aid" and their Christmas hit from 1984, "Do they know it's Christmas?" You saw him in the video.
This was the early 80's when bands like Prince and the Revolution took flight. It also created an entry point for other bands like Morris Albert and the Time.... per Jungle Love
Sheila E with a new kid working with her who performed as Neo
The Minneapolis bands were big at this time
