you do need a fairly good pressure washer to get it done well, K2 won't cut it, even a K4 struggled with doing my van, struggled getting it underneath the car but worked a treat on the 4x4.
Thanks Jon! I liked the Karcher tip. Never would have thought of that. I was looking for those "pro" tools for that but I found it was expensive and could not justify the cost vs use. Anyway now I know!! For me in Finland, where we have winter 6-9 months of the year, I can say that most of the tips are relevant even here but I also consider maybe some other things. 1. ONR : just did my last valet this week and it was minus 5 deg C. The way to do this was 1 panel at a time, hot water in the bucket and keep the buff rags inside your jacket so you keep them warm. Water freezes in seconds on the panel so this is a way to avoid it. Wear also disposable gloves over the normally wolly mitts so you keep dry as you dunk the wash mitt into the water. 2. Oil the seals with silicone before you leave the car after a valet. Freezing conditions and any leftover water will seal the doors shut overnight. 3. Use feathered snow brushes to avoid scratching. Avoid cheap brushes otherwise you will have a surprise waiting for you in Spring when you look at the paint work. 4. Blow out the leftover water from the rear wheels. Some car models eg Ford have a problem with the handbrake design whereby it can freeze in winter if water enters it. That's it for me. Thanks for all your videos, help, advice, chats this year Jon! You are truly an inspiration to us all and I really look forward to seeing what is in store by you next year...maybe a new Bimmer?? after you sell off the other 2??
Some really good tips in that list. Snow Foam onto a dry car now I think of it makes a lot more sense and waxing door shuts and boot were a couple that stood out for me. Happy Christmas and a Good New Year when it comes.
I always use RainX in the winter. Brilliant for dispersing water off your windscreen, mirrors and glass. Makes visibility better and easier to de-ice 👍🏻
I just citrus pre wash lower half and wheel cleaner for wheels, then pressure wash autoglym polar range all quick and easy, for winter 🥶 just do it weekly!
Cold water works really well and is quick, but dont do this and come back later as it will re-freeze. I store my 2012 Mustang in my garage over winter, from Oct thru April. Saves on some insurance too! It never gets wet, nor washed, and is only wiped down with detailer after every drive. For my daily drivers in winter, when it's not below freezing, I use my Ryobi 18V pressure washer fed from a bucket of warm water and from a gallon windshield washer fluid bottle filled with Rinseless, applied with a Ryobi chemical nozzle. I might use the local touch-less car wash to remove the packed snow in the wheel wells. That sticks to the fibrous fender liners like glue and rubs on the tires. Occasionally, the car will end up with a frozen film of water on it before I can dry it... but it's clean! We use Mylar blankets in our survival kit along with hand warmers. Small and lightweight. A rubber mat and vinyl gloves in the trunk is handy if you ever have to kneel to change a tire or check down below in crappy weather.
Some excellent tips here, I love the pressure washer attachment flipped over one, I've got this type of washer and patio cleaner, I'm going to give this a go! Thanks.
Deactivate autofold mirrors to save the motor cogs when the housings freeze them in the closed position. Also nowt worse than cold drips up your cuffs, nice long pair of gauntlet rubber gloves. Glovebox kit - tub of baby wipes, mud, bird poo etc..

AutoGlym's De-Icer is the only de-icer product I would use and I've used a lot of brands. Cheaper brands use harsh solvents that can damage trims, paint and rubbers etc but AutoGlym's doesn't. AG's also contains no water so the solution doesn't re-freeze on the window like a homebrew IPA mix would. Highly recommend it. I also keep some de-humidifier bags in the car (buy them off Amazon) which helps reduce and sometimes eliminate the fogging of windows in the mornings). Keeping your glass clean will also help reduce fogging inside.
Awesome video Jon. I like the IPA and surfex tip on the icy windscreen! Then at least you know what you’re putting on there. A decent glass coating/sealant before winter helps keep it frost free as well 👌🏼

I couldn't live without my origonal Sweedish ice Scraper. Best scraper ever. Or if you can plan ahead, use a frost shield. If you have snow on the car, a leaf blower is both fun and useful for non contact removal :)
My top tip for daily driving I haven't seen below: If it is possible, try to find parking position in which front of the car gets first sun-rays. Biggest niggle of winter has to be vaping in the car, leaves a right old horrible film that seems to build up in no time. Tend to leave cracking window and getting soaked until the beading has run off car a few miles down the road. But even so the film builds up so much faster than in summer. Also running a diesel it doesn’t heat up as fast as a petrol which doesn’t help the situation. Dooka VG Glass and Angelwax vision are the best cleaners I found so far. Least not as bad as my cousins car who smokes and the windscreen had black spots all over it (tar I’m guessing). When I did smoke never used to do it in the car as leaves a right mess, it stinks and is not the easiest to get rid of from what I see in other detailing videos.
Great tips Jon, I do the door shuts boot lid and under the bonnet just to keep them looking good, I hope you and all your family have a good Christmas and a happy new year, stay safe
In very cold conditions, I place a small fan heater inbetween the front seats for 10 minutes to defrost the windows and the windscreen wipers plus it prevents them from icing back up again. Added bonus is that it warms the car up. 😀
Use warm water in your wash buckets and mixing up your lance to save your hands getting freezing. Use a snow foam lance to apply your shampoo to save time out in the cold. Consider using the same shampoo for the bodywork for the wheels if they’re not too dirty and/or protected. Don’t forget to clean our the bottom of doors/sills/ under rubbers at bottom of doors as dirt builds up there quick and give all the underside/suspension area a blast out.
Nice tip for the patio cleaner. I've had 1 for years and never used it😁 To defrost cars I've always used warm-not hot water in a 6L milk container in the past. Warm water doesn't shatter your glass, it clears your windows quickly and because its warm it gently heats the glass so that doesn't refreeze before your heater has chance to take over. I reuse the same container, just take it indoors with me ever night and fill it from the house taps. Only downside is you need to look out for ice on your drive where it's run off and frozen.
Tip number 11 get some clear to go bags or giant 1kg or .5kg silica bead bags and put one on your dash and one on your parcel shelf these really help keep your car dry inside and less de misting
My tip for the quickest way to de ice your glass, put hot water in a plastic bag or zip lock, then run the bag over the ice it melts away instantly with no mess all the water remains in the bag, its it's so easy. Its so effective one fill up can do two cars 👍👍
Hey John, talking about car mats, id like to take that a step further. Check out Diamond Car Mats. They are literally the ULTIMATE way to protect your interior in my opinion. I was sceptical when I first ordered them, but damn it was worth it. I laid them out for a few days in my log cabin first to the stretch out the wrinkles and then gave them a thorough coat of Gyeon Leather Shield and they are bloody amazing. 6 months and they still look brand new. Not a mark, scuff or scrape on them. Every week I give them a quick two minute vac and then once a month a wipe with a damp microfibre cloth. I swear my actual carpets underneath (which I treated with Gtechniq I1 smart fabric first of course) still look like I've just picked the car up from the dealership. Best £180 I've ever spent mate. P.s. no im not advertising them. I'm not affiliated with them. I dont get anything at all from them. Shit, they don't even know I exist. Lol.
I like the upside down patio attachment idea remarkable I would have never thought of that now I need to buy one 🤣 and the auto glym spray and protect I might look into that I've got a £10 Halfords online discount was going to wash the car this afternoon but it started raining gutted 😭 it's filthy it's going to be washed Christmas Eve rain how snow or shine 💪 also my neighbours keep walking past commenting on my once a week wash like you're going to wash that away and you can do my next 🤬 any hints or tricks to comment back so they stop
Hi. Watch all your videos for reviews and on your recommendations have just purchased the bilt hamber, surfex, auto wash, and car wash products, hoping to try out in the next few days. Intrigued by the way how many uses surfex has but would be helpful if you could give me some ratio to use for the following: Alloy wheel cleaner Interior cleaner Outside panels pre wash And the mix used for clay lube. Wishing to mix these up myself for these uses but not sure on how to mix. Many thanks. Martin.
ise optimate solar charger between two cars alternating to keep battery topped up... especially over lockdown when cars unused... have a mains Optimate 3 permanently conditioning m'bike in garage- also keep battery pos and minus points well greased with vaseline to avoid corrosion.... always change to winter tyres in Oct and switch back in early April . Have dedicated metal rims for winter tyres so quick swop..
If it Weathertech floor mats he’s on about. They are amazing, not the cheapest but the ones I’ve saw, the fit has been spot on and also have high sides to keep the dirt of the foot wells. Unfortunately they don’t make for my car yet.
My Top Tip. I have a Hyundai i10 small hatchback. The back of the car and the sides below the rubbing strips can get filthy after just one drive. I fill a bucket with rain water from the water butt and use a soft brush just to clean those parts that are dirty. Rain water does not take the shine off from polishing like tap water does. It take five minutes and the car look much nicer and people don't get the backs of their legs dirty on the dirty sills. .
Any tips for cleaning and re lubricating the door hinges.. most people don't care as they "rent" their cars but for those that still buy them it is a little covered area of car maintenance. Also I got some cheap rubber mats from Asda..£7... No horrid rubber smell, thin and flexible so easy to quickly whip out and clean, plus they were easy to cut to size.
Please please please can you do video on fogging interior windows. I clean mine and they fog sooo bad even with a de-humidifier bag in there. Tried Rain X Anti Fog wipes but they just made it worse.
Hi Jon, great winter tips. I've always avoided rubber mats as I received some really bad ones a while back. Can you share the name of the rubber mat company you mention please?
1:57 I would just use plain water to keep spraying until almost or even all mud , etc., was removed . Then to have gone to the snow foam as now it's not sitting on mud , etc .., to do a better job .
@@ForensicDetailing I know an old guy who used to pour boiling hot water onto his screen and never cracked, he said it was the quickest way to do it plus with the heat the screen was instantly dry.... Fuck that! Seen him do it too, I'd never do that.
@@ossie6941 Likewise used to use luke warm water. It has the advantage that it heats up the window so that it doesn't freeze instantly again, as other deicer products seem to do.
Definitelly get some deicer for windows. Makes live easier. Door shuts. I use turtle ice sealant for this twice a year when i fully refresh car. When it is above zero i properly wash and tend to top up with a sealant. Put ceramics on your wheels even if you are a wax person. And yeah pre-wash and let it dwell.
Great video JON. Rewind a bit to the glass so when you clean the glass it makes it more prone to steaming up,??? does that happen with all glass cleaners or any ones in particular? 🤯
imagine the inside of your glass has a thin film of grease. moisture cant stick to that grease very well. A glass cleaner is a "leave nothing behind" type product so it does not generally matter which one you use. (although some contain anti fog or sealants). when you clean away that film of grease the moisture can settle on the glass a lot more. believe it or not this was the number 1 complaint I used to get when I detailed as a sideline before the channel. glass misting up after I have cleaned the car.
I bought some gyeon wet coat because of your mention here. It applied way better than I imagined, couldn't be easier. There is definitely a self cleaning property, had a snow storm not long after I applied it and the car was staying clean for days after driving on slushy roads. I appreciate the recommendation, thank you.
Is there any products out there that is a spray and seal that doesnt require a pressure washer to remove it as I want something for the roof of my motorhome but I dont like using a pressure washer in it.
Any tips for detailing for those who don't have a garage? Like to keep on top of it but struggle to get a great bit of time to look after the car in the ideal way I would like
same rules applies if you can get your weekly or bi-weekly regular wash done so you dont build up dirt in or out the car it will help mate... I cant think of any tips or workaround that mitigate or solve the problem of not having a garage. Having a garage is a privaledge in the UK. You cant cover the car up if your using it every day because the surface will have dirt on it. So honestly the best tip is to just enjoy cleaning it and look forward to doing it properly and taking pride in it David.
@@ForensicDetailing even harder in the rhondda, terraced streets and limited parking makes getting the car next to the house difficult at times. If I struggle I try to use the contact free car wash, lances only and no brush etc
My tip is to put a decent quality car cover on when you park up, or a windscreen shield that’s fairly quick to put on but saves you time in the morning when your windscreen is perfectly clear with no ice
These cause micro scratches on your paint that you'll be scratching your head about in spring. I've done it and spent a lot of money figuring out that paint protection works better. On a windy day every material marks (even on a snug fit cover).
@@ixifutureproof9286 this is a very good point that I didn’t think about. As my paintwork isn’t in the best shape due to the previous owner I will probably continue to use a cover, however I would say To anyone with decent paintwork to possibly avoid using a cover
Happy new year to you and your family. Love the videos, I have a question for you or anyone else that might have used both. What do you think is the best between auto finesse aqua coat and Meguairs ceramic spray wax. 1) ease of use 2) longevity 2) best shine. Many thanks
Ive not used the AF product. megs you have to be a bit carefull most spray and rinse and thin water like liquids whereas this is a thick white emulsion, if you put too much on you can get streak marks of product foot prints. but I think megs is a decent effort. I actually prefer the megs green ceramic detail spray which I think is a superb topper.

Jon, some great ideas there. However, I tried the Koch panel wipe 20% with a little Suffex this morning, with no luck. I had to re apply before setting off. Should I up to 30%/40% Koch? HAPPY NEW YEAR
Hey Katie, no dont increase the SIL. its close to pure IPA so above 30% its too strong. I would just get a saucepan or bucket and fill up with water and slosh it all over.

jon maybe a video on how to decontaminate and top up protection if i got carpro uk3.0 coating.
Great tips Jon, I do the door shuts boot lid and under the bonnet just to keep them looking good, I hope you and all your family have a good Christmas and a happy new year, stay safe
Lovely Jubbly, your facial expressions do make me smile, even after all this time.
'Start squirting polish on the windscreen' ... hilarious Jon. And, on to 150K subscribers by Newyear!
I store the porker in a unit and have my Golf as the daily. System works a treat. 👍🏽👍🏽 Top vid as always John. Merry Christmas pal 🎅🏻🙋🏻♂️👍🏽
Intrigued by the way how many uses surfex has but would be helpful if you could give me some ratio to use for the following:
Alloy wheel cleaner
Interior cleaner
Outside panels pre wash
And the mix used for clay lube.
Wishing to mix these up myself for these uses but not sure on how to mix. Many thanks. Martin.
Ive heard not to put electric folding wind mirrors in during the winter as they can break if they are frozen.
ise optimate solar charger between two cars alternating to keep battery topped up... especially over lockdown when cars unused... have a mains Optimate 3 permanently conditioning m'bike in garage- also keep battery pos and minus points well greased with vaseline to avoid corrosion.... always change to winter tyres in Oct and switch back in early April .
What is the best way to remover lots of tar spots on lower body of car ? absolutely love the channel, amazing advice !
autosmart tardis spray on work. buff off. be carefully with it in summer. strong stuff
Snow foaming is one of the few activities you can do by going in dry
🙈🤣
LOL
Yup, most fun you can have with your clothes on...
I love purity x as my spray on rinse off, doesn't matter if you get it on your glass
I add my surfex to my auto foam. Does a great job
Great useful tips Jon, much needed for a bit of guidance now the crap weather is upon us.
It take five minutes and the car look much nicer and people don't get the backs of their legs dirty on the dirty sills. .
Talk me through the homebrew deicer?
Just warm water will do it mate... not hot... not boiling... just warm water... slightly warmer tham cold
Any tips for cleaning and re lubricating the door hinges.. most people don't care as they "rent" their cars but for those that still buy them it is a little covered area of car maintenance.
Also I got some cheap rubber mats from Asda..£7... No horrid rubber smell, thin and flexible so easy to quickly whip out and clean, plus they were easy to cut to size.
just hoggs hair brushes and rags old microfiber and surfex HD. always good to have some automotive grease in your grease things.
@@ForensicDetailing any recommendations regarding grease?
Superb ideas 😀 loved the patio cleaner
not a spray sealant guy, but hydro2foam etc is good idea to use few times during winter.....
for defrosting, pure etanol in spay is fastest
Please please please can you do video on fogging interior windows. I clean mine and they fog sooo bad even with a de-humidifier bag in there. Tried Rain X Anti Fog wipes but they just made it worse.
Hi Jon, great winter tips. I've always avoided rubber mats as I received some really bad ones a while back. Can you share the name of the rubber mat company you mention please?
Where's the bottle of Jamesons to keep you warm while cleaning in the freezing cold? 🥃☕
I used it to keep me warm in the summer :(
@@ForensicDetailing Genuinely thought this was the best tip of the bunch from your previous video 🤣
Glass cleaner, even water based, or windscreen wash diluted in a spray bottle can help with ice on windscreens
1:57 I would just use plain water to keep spraying until almost or even all mud , etc., was removed . Then to have gone to the snow foam as now it's not sitting on mud , etc .., to do a better job .
I've always poured Luke warm water over frosted windows and never had a problem
yer Id Imagine its fine, I dont know why but Im like paranoid its gonna smash the glass if its too hot but I doubt it can. not sure.
Would putting surfex HD down to dwell before snowfoam on a fortnightly basis have any affect on ceramic coating degrading quicker ?
it will have no measurable difference. see 2will surfex HD strip a coating" video
@@ForensicDetailing great thanks for the reply Jon 👍
Definitelly get some deicer for windows. Makes live easier.
Door shuts. I use turtle ice sealant for this twice a year when i fully refresh car.
When it is above zero i properly wash and tend to top up with a sealant.
Put ceramics on your wheels even if you are a wax person.
And yeah pre-wash and let it dwell.
i tend to use tfr instead of snow foam before a wash . is there any problems you can see with that ?
I always use auto glym polar seal in the winter, I would recommend it to anyone for winter protection.
I bought some gyeon wet coat because of your mention here. It applied way better than I imagined, couldn't be easier. There is definitely a self cleaning property, had a snow storm not long after I applied it and the car was staying clean for days after driving on slushy roads. I appreciate the recommendation, thank you.
Can you please give us the link to the company who sell the rubber floor matts ?
Warm water wash FTW!
Picked up a proper karcher chassis cleaner cheap off Facebook Market place, use it a couple of times a year on our cars, does a great job.
Id love to see you do a product test of the McLaren detailing range!
Have you tried KKD Purity X, Jon?
As a current user of Wet Coat, I was interested in Purity X given its very high concentration in a snow foam lance..
I stopped using polar seal, I’m tempted to use it again today 👍
Jon garage heater coming this winter?
@@CB-gg1sg I use a windscreen cover, doesn't cause any problems, because it's fit tightly
Happy new year to you and your family.
Love the videos, I have a question for you or anyone else that might have used both.
What do you think is the best between auto finesse aqua coat and Meguairs ceramic spray wax.
1) ease of use
2) longevity
2) best shine.
Forensic Detailing Channel thank you for the reply.
Great video Jon , yay the flex mini hoover aka vacuum makes an appearance 🤣🤣🤣 👍🏻 oh and a merry Christmas to you and your family and all the best for 2021 👍🏻😁
So what's the company he's on about when he talks about the rubber mats?
Remind us please 😁😁😁
I know right, don't leave us hanging Jon 🤔
indeed....
Me too
Jon commented below - "trav all"
The detail geek has a brilliant under carriage jetwash tool,
Jon, some great ideas there.
@@ForensicDetailing Thank you Jon, just like the good old days !
Nice tips John :) and Happy Holidays from Norway to You!
Have you tried auto finesses lavish ceramic foam is that any good ?
I would like to know where we find these great rubber mats for me GTD as well :-)
trav all is the name of the company wayne
Love the surfex then snow foam tip same thing I’ve been doing mate 👌
Hi Jon have you a link for the winter mats?
