Did you know when washing a BMW you can set the windscreen wipers into an upward mode to make it easier to wash them, when you turn of the ignition hold the wipers column stalk up and hold it for about 4 to 5 seconds and the wipers will stay vertical.
@@ash7jar yer I did know of this but I didnt know how to do it. its the same on the golf as well. I always forget.. thank you mate. Ive made a mental note of how to do it on the m140 and I will try and use it because it will be helpfully.
Jon can applying a snow foam on the paint during hand washing add that extra safeness? I did this yesterday when cleaning using auto foam and auto wash. I just feel the suds go away a little quickly from the soap and worry about losing that lubrisity. Nice little tip I put auto wash in a spray bottle and mixed with water. Helps create suds when spraying it during wheel cleaning and engine cleaning 👍
@@zaink7037 yes but I would use a contact wash shampoo for the contact wash. and a prewash for the prewash.. but forsure I think it can be really nice to spray the contact shampoo all over the car.. like you say you notice all the extra lube and its just nice.. danger is all that extra soap on the car can increase risk of soaps stains.
I’m not even into detailing (I didn’t know it was a thing until earlier this week) but I’m now addicted to watching your videos. They’re so thorough, it’s a treat to watch them!
This may just be your most useful video! A mate at work just bought a new M140, told me it had a dealer paint protection product on it. So I asked how he’d washed it... bucket, sponge, the usual. Pointed him at this vid and suggested a couple of products (mostly recommended by you) and he’s bought a few good things and picked up a lot of tips. So nice one and keep ‘em coming 😀👍
Once again, another fantastic (USEFUL) video. Jon, you have, without a doubt, THE BEST, and most useful DETAILING channel on TH-cam. Thank you for everything you do in bringing all of this information to the world and us "weekend warrior" type Detailing folks out here in the real world. Thanks for covering all the products and letting the world know what works, whatever the costs are. The most USEFUL products that actually WORK in the real world. There are WAY too many products related to detailing these days and you let us know what products actually WORK in the real world. This is the information we need! Looking forward to all your future videos my friend.

Just bought a new car and i want to keep it like new. This is maybe the most important video to Get you started! I already watched other detailingvideos on other channels but This channel is the place to be! Great work ! Thanks!
I know no one sorts by new but this video is super underrated. Dad does a great job of showing how important doing your weekly wash is. Everyone focuses on what product is best or wax vs sio2. If you follow what Dad’s telling you it doesn’t matter what products you use as long as you’re happy w/ your car and you think it looks good, then it’s all a wash - pun intended.
At around 15:20 in the vid, very true- even though the car may look clean after a pre-wash it certainly benefits from the contact shampoo wash. After a shampoo this week, the water in my rinse bucket was completely brown, even after a mere 2-week wash interval and thorough pre-wash.
Just come across your channel, really find your wash/details tips invaluable not least as I have the sane car/colour and have never seen it so clean as yours. Since leaving the UK (now in Germany) really miss being able to clean my car relaxed at home as we are not allowed in Germany and to spend so much time at a manual car wash is just not feasible, keep up the great work, amazing tips and videos. Thanks, John
Purchased bilt hamber snow foam as per your recommendation. It was brill. Used on a dirty car after a pre rince jet wash. Used the product left for 10 mins then jet washed off. The car came up very clean.
Loving your channel. Great tune too, Basixx. I lose my awesome M140i and collect my M4CS in San Marino Blue with CCB and all the extras this coming week. Exciting times.
The old notes on the back of the hand trick ! Nice video saves me explaining how I wash my car to my work colleagues ! I'll just point them to this video 😎
Great video! Appreciate you mentioning the most important aspect - applying your own logic and not blindly follow tutorials. Thanks for an awesome channel! Lots of respect and appreciation all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦
The knowledge and time and effort put into these I really appreciate it and enjoy watching it, always use autobrite stuff but gonna give the bilt hamber stuff a go
John you mentioned about putting down a layer of surfex before foam as a sort of pre cleaner, will this work for the likes of the flies at the end of the video or are you needing a citrus based pre cleaner more so? What way to apply would you recommend then? I use the bilt hamber foam myself so should you spray citrus on, leave to dwell, and spray off then foam? Or would you spray citrus and then foam straight on top of that? Cheers
Hi mate loving your videos and they have sucked me into the detailing world, bought most of the products you recommended and there just waiting for my day off now. Have you got a video for interior detailing I’ve looked through your videos and can’t find one? Cheers
I’ve picked up 2019 Cupra 290 and it’s my first time buying new.. I haven’t cleaned the car yet as I didn’t want to just jump in and possibly do any damage, so thanks for this video man. It’s incredibly helpful with your prewash stages. My previous cars I’ve just throw a bucket over it, so this time around I want to make an effort.
12:40 Do you still stand by your one bucket method with a cheap, short pile mitt and the Hozelock multispray head? I still use it and believe it to be a fantastic alternative to the TBM ... Great video BTW!
Firstly, great video but a question and a few comments. The question I have you use a brush "holder" on the side of the bucket @ 13:07 what is the name of that product? Two comments, as you mentioned we all need to use what works best for us but I do not like the large incredipads since when wet they are very heavy and you lose all tactile sensation; I also am a big fan of the Chenille mitts. Lastly, I have owned three Porsches and no matter what I do there will always be residual soap in the door jams and the frunk.......very frustrating.
Great video. I use the one bucket method you did a video on a while back, but using multiple cheap mitts only once. A dryer makes all the difference to the final result. I only use a cheap battery powered leaf blower so it doesn't heat the air but it's great for wheels, gaps and scuttles. Nothing worse than finishing, coming back to it an hour later and seeing the drips from the mirrors and the lug nuts. Thanks for all the tips and advice.
Holy crap! That car looked already spotless to me. That's some effort you put into it. It looked like it just got from the dealer. The engine bay was spotless 😎😎
Love this. I'm bringing my car round to yours for a clean. Did I hear right? You have carpet in your wheel arches? Anyway this has encouraged me to try some cleaning of my own of my new car. Nervous about it tho.
I hate you John.... spent nearly 8 hours detailing my car after getting addicted to your videos!! Haha 😂 but my car looks amazing!! Keep up the good work John, you have some brilliant content.. 👍
Another top notch video Jon. On media i use rag company cyclone mitt which is indeed close to the incredimit. Works extremely well and i feel the longer fibres are great at keeping any dirt away from the paint prior to getting it in the rinse bucket. There's not much id change in this routine. I do however risne the paint first, then snow foam. Same with the wheels. A rinse first then use foams, cleaners and brushes. Perhaps im adding a step for nothing. I just feel any loose dirt will come off first giving my foam more chance to work on the dirt thats more stubborn. Kind of like washing yourbwheels thorougly and then using fallout remover because youre just spending the chemical on the surface contaminants that will be easily removed from the prior wash process. Im not saying your wrong. Would perhaps like more of an insight to whether you think on the same level.
yer i know its a problem. the bigger problem is when they are eventually available there will be like an added cost so that they wont be like as cost effective and thats annoying. because i think certain products should not be expensive and I tend to look to recomend things which I think are good value most of the time. but you can always just replace the products I use with a similar thing theres lots of cool brands in the US that offer value as well.
Great video, Jon! Could you think of doing a video on how to remove those fine and annoying scratches/scuffs off alloys? Not talking about wheels that have been badly damaged or run against the kerb 😉. My wheels are less than 2 years old and I can see some fine scratches on some of them. I guess I could try polishing them but what should I use? AG SRP? Sonax Perfect Finish? How can the car enthusiast do it by hand? I've searched TH-cam and can't find decent content on this so here you go! Hope you'll run with this idea. Cheers.
Instead of multi purpose cleaner to clean wheels. Is it adequate to use car shampoo on the wheels to. I do use a separate bucket for wheels paintwork to prevent cross contamination and I still cover the wheels with snow foam prior to any cleaning (like you). I still use a fall out remover monthly too.
This is a brilliant video Jon. I've been battling water spots since switching from a silver car to a dark grey car, tend to get interupted when cleaning the car (i do it at work on a saturday and i tend to get interrupted by customers!) Never fast enough with the drying phase! I'm sure ceramic coating makes it water spot that much quicker too...unless that's just in my head!
Super video there jon.now I've watched it I'm going to go clean my car.i did not think of using bilt hamber surfex hd on my wheels I'll give that a try.
Do you happen to have videos on how to clean engine bay. Mine doesn't look so well, it's an old 2001 civic. I would like to try getting it done. I've seen some vids were they cover crucial parts and rinse it off. I don't own a pressure washer so it would be done with a house. I'm not 109% sure I should do this myself though. So I'm holding off until I have enough knowledge and balls to do this
Excellent video again John...I like how you explain and give us your opinion about products and your car really looks awesome....it's like a poem. I would like you to do again a brand review....
At the moment (warm UK August in a hard water area) I struggle to get my metallic black S4 Avant dried all over in time to avoid some water spotting on the paint. I think I need me some of that FSE - I always thought it was a bit silly to delay drying simply to spray a product that makes the car dry more slowly.
Great vid! Keeping it real as always and some sage advice about using up what you have...you mentioned about some people using bilt hamber atom-Mac for brake disks so would be interested in knowing more on that...
Great as always Jonh, after see the vídeo Just what to wash the car! Lol! I see you use a gloss meter, can you tell me what wax did you use that give you the most gloss to the paint? What to try some New wax but don't know what to try, the colour is similar to your bimmer! Cheers from Portugal!
Good Afternoon. I just got a 2013 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo from the main car dealer here in Northern Ireland and it has had GardX Protect Vehicle protection system done on it. Would like to know what type of car polish could I use on the car.
Hi, thanks for the nice video! I'm thinking of buying a pressure washer to wash my car. Can you give some advise on which one to choose (which ones are safe to use?) and which accessories would be necessary?
Another great video Jon👍🏻👍🏻 I can’t wait to get a house bought with a garage so I can get everything at hand ready! I’m currently renting and using our lasses grans house only two doors up, trailing her hose pipe out every Saturday morning. Nightmare to get my pressure washer set up, trailing buckets and all my products out (no shed it’s all in the house) 😂 terms and conditions of buying our house is either have a garage or potential to build a double.
yer I think its important mate I had the same sort of requirements I wanted a doubel garage not easy in the UK to get this we pay an arm and a leg for the simple things in life, especially property dont we.
I don't have a pressure washer or snowfoam lance for noise reasons. I have a hosepipe & mains pressure. My current 'pre-wash' is merely a citrus spray on the lower half of the car, then a hose down. I would very much like to do a Bilt Hamber snowfoam pre wash with something hand held because the car gets very dirty between maintenance washes. What would be the best way to deliver a good layer of active snowfoam without a pressure washer? Would a Spear & Jackson pressure sprayer be suitable for this task?
Hi John I had a question, it’s always my luck after cleaning car I get bird poo (or tree sap) no matter how carefully I park etc (plus bugs on front bumper) Can you advice what is the safest way to remove contaminants in between washes especially if your on the road or away from home - would an APC, ONR (QD dilution) or citrus spray of some sort be best for this? You may know what is the safest way to remove - the longer you leave on the more likely it will damage paint that’s why I’m asking methods to clean whilst away from home or on a road trip and perhaps no access to water (of course cleaning when panels are not too hot) Also I got an issue right now with spiders making webs on my washed car mirrors especially - would a good slippy wax deter this? Any advice On a method or hack would be appreciated if you know of any - keep up the great videos Thanks in advance
I just did a video on bird poo. wet sponge.. put on the bird poo and leave for 30 mins.. turns it into porridge.. then rinse off. ONR is your friend when it comes to quick dust down type washes.. EG you clean the car and its clean but just covered in dust. but I still dont recoemend cleaning down dust on cars with really good corrected clearcoat. But on average cars onr wipe down is great for quick spruice up.. have a watch of my can you clean your car in 5 minutes video where I talk about ONR wipedowns.
Great video mate! Exactly what was looking for and what I needed. I've just bought myself a 1 series and absolutely adore it so I'm looking to take good care of it. So this type of video was a great way to start!
#forensicdetailing, haha, looks like you had a few brown pants moments at the track day!! Always nice to see a good car being used properly.........ish, lol. I'm still enjoying and learning from all of your content, and really respect the clear, honest and non-arrogant way you deliver it.
Hi. A new Sub here and really enjoying looking through your back catalogue. Great content 👍. I'm new to this world so getting my head around all the different types of product and the uses. Can you help me with a question please? I have just bought a car that has a 'Williams' paint perfection treatment on it. The car is only 18 months old and in very good condition. Is there any treatment I shouldn't use as I'm wondering if it would strip the pair for 'Williams' paint treatment. Or is it just a gimmick? Cheers. Dave
Have you ever tried the Adams wash pad? Whether I use 2 buckets or 1 bucket with a hose to rinse it, I’ve found it leaves marring on the paint. Kinda hope I’m not the only one
I feel the less tools you use to do the same job the better and the biggest difference with regards to swirls and scratches for me was using a detailing spry as a drying aid as I feel most scratches happen during the drying part.
I admire your rim upkeep. I really struggle with keeping that channel on the rim clean of my M235i. The channel always gets caked with dirt every week and can’t seem to get it spotless. Got brushes and Various wheel cleaners. Any tips? I will try a stronger APC perhaps.
Hi mate can you tell me what I've been doing wrong? I only look at your detailing channel and trust you! I've got a brand new car. I've bought the AutoGlym Polar series and snow foam. But I'm petrified of using contact on my car and create swirl marks.. but I've noticed without actually contact, my car after it still has spots and dirty ish marks on it.. This is the method I've been doing please let me know what to tweak or purchase as I'm invested into making it look good! I've been starting off doing my alloys first.. with a cleaner and Maguires Microsoft brush and it looks amazing. I then snow foam my car (pre wash) and leave to sit for about 5-10 minutes. Then jetwash it off then apply the shampoo through the jetwash polar series and literally just jetwash it off then use Big Boi Blower to dry the car... but still looks quite dirty? And I can never get all the water off. Should I be using a soft microfiber towel etc on the shampooing stage to agigate the shampoo and surface then jetwash off and use a microfiber towel to dry it then use the big boi blower? I'm also curious after it's dried what detailing spray you can recommend for me to just buff the odd water marks or do I buff the entire car after its dry? I know it's a big read but I only trust you on TH-cam!
You need any product that is a paint safe degreaser. Stick to something specifically made for car paint. There a lot of them out there, I've tried several and they all worked just as well.
@@davidjohn0505 For paint work, Meguiar's Super Degreaser. Easy to get from Amazon or car parts stores. Main thing is, it's non-caustic so it doesn't tear up your skin. Which means it's pretty gentle on paint. I've never had to polish paint after removing nasty build up from the bottom section of my car. And easy to rinse off with no residue. There are stronger degreasers, depending on your application. But you have to be very careful with how you use these (Purple Power for instance). These will defininitely etch your paint if used too concentrated or left for too long. These also tend to leave a hard to remove residue. These are better used for spot cleaning engine bays and non paint surfaces.
Great video as always. I used Autoglym Super Resin Polish and topped in with Bilt Hamber Double Speed Wax a few months back. Should I do a strip wash to remove any remaining wax/resin before decontaminating the paint with Trix before claying? If so, what product should I use to remove any existing products on the paint?
Thanks for some fantastic videos. I was wondering what is the best method for rinsing as I don't have a pressure washer. I have snow foam attachment for a hose which works pretty well. I have been just rinsing off with the hose a the highest pressure. If you think this is enough or have any tips. Also off subject I am in Queensland Australia and I'm have a hard time getting red dust from travelling on dirt roads off my tires and trim. I have used Bilt Hamber Surfex HD at 10:1 and I'm unsure if I should go stronger?
Hi, just discovered your channel and subscribed. Thanks for the discount code..it works! Now going to look at the rest of your videos. All the best, Paul.
Well done, John. Picked up alot of tips from this one, and I thought I knew it all. Lol. Koch kemie or however it's spelled, aren't readily available in the US, but seem really great.
Jon, it was almost like you'd watched my weekly wash routine :) I recognise many of the techniques I've learned from primarily watching you, Matt Moreman and a bit of White Details (non-correction work). Little M140i looking good, I've had my M135i for 3.5 yrs and it isn't going to be easy to replace it! Looking forward to your future content. Regards, Kevin
Thanks for doing some great videos clear concise and adding the reason why do this. I had always enjoyed keeping my car nice. Wasn't really called detailing then. However now I'm getting bit older and hurting bit more it great to see so much good stuff out there that makes the job easier and better. 😁👍🚘
Another great tutorial, thank you. What do you use to get all those dead bugs off the front of the now not so pristine BMW? With summer arriving it would be useful to find out what is effective either with or without removing any previous paint protection.
Can you use viro sol citrus cleaner as a pre wash or would it strip the wax coating off as well. I’m trying to get an effective prewash before I use contact washing and maguires snow foam still leaves dirt on the car. Thanks very much.
In the pre-wash, can we spray first with Bilt hamber Surfex hd, wait 5 minutes and then apply Bilt Hamber Touch-less without rinsing, or should we rinse between these 2 products?
I notice Jon that there's no link to the IK pump sprayer in the description box. Am I right in thinking that it's not a normal pump sprayer but one of those fancy foaming pump sprayers? Looks very handy indeed!
search for IK pump foamer I think is the product name. They may well in fact I think they do have an IK pump sprayer which doesnt have the wierd foaming nozzle.
thank you for watching and supporting the channel. And also thanks for commenting guys it adds a lot of value to the content.

yer i know its a problem. the bigger problem is when they are eventually available there will be like an added cost so that they wont be like as cost effective and thats annoying. because i think certain products should not be expensive and I tend to look to recomend things which I think are good value most of the time. but you can always just replace the products I use with a similar thing theres lots of cool brands in the US that offer value as well.
@kvn4 i am working on that now. See them soon here in the US!
@@ultimatefinish6491 nice .keep me informed please
@@ultimatefinish6491 is there an email list we can get on for updates?
Another totally awesome video. Thank you. Just wish I knew someone trustworthy like you to detail my car.
If you use bilt hamber auto wash car shampoo you'll get a lot less water spots. Its and amazing product
Super video there jon.now I've watched it I'm going to go clean my car.i did not think of using bilt hamber surfex hd on my wheels I'll give that a try.
THIS IS IT! THE MOMENT WE'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!
New viewer from the US. Great video mate. Excellent content and presentation. What is your LSP? That paint is glossy af!
Just wondering what you used in the bucket when agitating the Surfex on the wheels? Just water or Shampoo mixture?
Do you happen to have videos on how to clean engine bay. Mine doesn't look so well, it's an old 2001 civic. I would like to try getting it done. I've seen some vids were they cover crucial parts and rinse it off. I don't own a pressure washer so it would be done with a house. I'm not 109% sure I should do this myself though. So I'm holding off until I have enough knowledge and balls to do this
Excellent video again John...I like how you explain and give us your opinion about products and your car really looks awesome....it's like a poem. I would like you to do again a brand review....
Great video John always a honour to watch
At the moment (warm UK August in a hard water area) I struggle to get my metallic black S4 Avant dried all over in time to avoid some water spotting on the paint. I think I need me some of that FSE - I always thought it was a bit silly to delay drying simply to spray a product that makes the car dry more slowly.
Great vid! Keeping it real as always and some sage advice about using up what you have...you mentioned about some people using bilt hamber atom-Mac for brake disks so would be interested in knowing more on that...
Hi john , another great informative video 👍
Always.loved to.wash and polish cars, thanks for giving a honest opinion about products I use and products I've not seen before! 👍
Jon, great video I always pick a tip from your vids 👍
Hi, thanks for the nice video! I'm thinking of buying a pressure washer to wash my car. Can you give some advise on which one to choose (which ones are safe to use?) and which accessories would be necessary?
Top video fella, really enjoy all the videos you put out. Keep up the solid work.
Brilliant video. Apologies if I missed it but what dilution ratio of Bilt Hamber auto foam do you use?
Hi John I had a question, it’s always my luck after cleaning car I get bird poo (or tree sap) no matter how carefully I park etc (plus bugs on front bumper)
Can you advice what is the safest way to remove contaminants in between washes especially if your on the road or away from home - would an APC, ONR (QD dilution) or citrus spray of some sort be best for this? You may know what is the safest way to remove - the longer you leave on the more likely it will damage paint that’s why I’m asking methods to clean whilst away from home or on a road trip and perhaps no access to water (of course cleaning when panels are not too hot)
Also I got an issue right now with spiders making webs on my washed car mirrors especially - would a good slippy wax deter this? Any advice On a method or hack would be appreciated if you know of any - keep up the great videos
Thanks in advance
I just did a video on bird poo. wet sponge.. put on the bird poo and leave for 30 mins.. turns it into porridge.. then rinse off.
ONR is your friend when it comes to quick dust down type washes.. EG you clean the car and its clean but just covered in dust. but I still dont recoemend cleaning down dust on cars with really good corrected clearcoat. But on average cars onr wipe down is great for quick spruice up.. have a watch of my can you clean your car in 5 minutes video where I talk about ONR wipedowns.
Thank you my friend, I will watch both videos - I have seen so many of your videos I may have missed these two - cheers 👍🏼
Great video mate! Exactly what was looking for and what I needed. I've just bought myself a 1 series and absolutely adore it so I'm looking to take good care of it. So this type of video was a great way to start!
Great video and a good guide for washing a car. Have you ever used or would you recommend a water filter to help with eliminating water marks?
#forensicdetailing, haha, looks like you had a few brown pants moments at the track day!!
Always nice to see a good car being used properly.........ish, lol.
I'm still enjoying and learning from all of your content, and really respect the clear, honest and non-arrogant way you deliver it.
Your channel is outstanding.
Thanks for the time you take with these videos👍🏻
you are outstanding. its because of people like you that I do this. thank you for your kind words.
This looks good,I don't mind videos like I've set my reminder button on, awesome.
Have you ever used Magnatec high gloss drying aid foam? It's incredible, think you'd love it
I admire your rim upkeep.
Great video but what product would recommend for getting dried on bugs off and Tar Spots...thank you
You need any product that is a paint safe degreaser. Stick to something specifically made for car paint. There a lot of them out there, I've tried several and they all worked just as well.
ThatGuyThatDoesStuff which one you recommend.
Yer just rinse in high pressure setting m8. Invest in pressure washer if u can
Hey a beginniner here need advise please
Which jet wash is best but not too expensive and what products bilt hamber just for good wash please
Hi! What is dilution of bilt hamber auto foam you use in foam cannon? This channel gives me a lot of konowledge, tank you for that.
Hi, just discovered your channel and subscribed. Thanks for the discount code..it works! Now going to look at the rest of your videos. All the best, Paul.
welcome aboard paul thanks for subbing appreciate it.
how would you alter your system for a soft top - I've heard the snow foam is a bad idea as you should keep it of the roof? thanks
A great informative video, will be buying some of these products for sure. Thank you!
Wow!! Fantastic video and so honest… are you still using these products now 3 years later?
yes m8 i think so
Another great tutorial, thank you. What do you use to get all those dead bugs off the front of the now not so pristine BMW? With summer arriving it would be useful to find out what is effective either with or without removing any previous paint protection.
Do you have any hover attachment recommendations
Can you use viro sol citrus cleaner as a pre wash or would it strip the wax coating off as well. I’m trying to get an effective prewash before I use contact washing and maguires snow foam still leaves dirt on the car. Thanks very much.
In the pre-wash, can we spray first with Bilt hamber Surfex hd, wait 5 minutes and then apply Bilt Hamber Touch-less without rinsing, or should we rinse between these 2 products?
Cracking video as always Jon! Always full of good tips and great advice 👌. Looking forward to the interior followup video
