      it is not about being rich or poor. Men(human beings) when in powerful position, abuse the power towards those who are weaker.. They do it to women, other men, children. it isn't only sexual. it is abuse in so many forms.

    • @ErykaSoleil
      @ErykaSoleil 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They're simply acknowledging exactly what they said: It is a very complex array of emotions to try and reconcile that someone you've known and loved for so long could have done something so awful. And just as it would be dishonest to sweep all his flaws and evils under the rug in order to present him as a hero, it would be equally dishonest to now sweep away all the good he's done and just thrown 20+ years of close friendship under the bus. Sexual harassment and assault are wrong, and both do a lot of damage to the people victimized by it. At the same time, people can do both great good and great evil in their lives. There is a good amount of documentation that Ghandi was a sexual predator of sorts, in that he would force his neices and other young girls to sleep with him naked in the same bed, in order to prove how strong his vow of chastity was (you can look this up yourself--it has been brought up repeatedly in recent years in various Indian papers). He lost several friends directly due to this behavior, and alienated some of his family. But he also did an amazing amount of good in his life, and you can't simply disregard all of it because he made some very repugnant choices in addition to that.

    I always had an uneasy feeling about Lauer when watching his interviews. He always come across as a pompous, arrogant, smug jerk who talks down to people. The way he treated Ann Curry was disgusting when she was crying on the couch when she was let go. I didn't watch anymore of his interviews after how he treated Curry. I'm glad to see him gone. This is sending out a strong message that no matter how much status and money you have in the media or any other industry, it will not be tolerated for you to abuse your position of power to harm another innocent person. It is LONG OVERDUE.

    Susanna Guthrie calls Matt Lauer's sexual assault "behaiving badly", yet again down playing illegal behavior in the higher echelons of society. If a man on the street had done exactly the same to anyone he would be locked up tried convicted and jailed. This is a perfect example of the two tiered system of justice we currently have - one for the rich and powerful and another for the rest of us.

    What about Due Process. What about Innocent Until Proven Guilty? It scares me that innocent people can be taken down from their jobs and lives because of an allegation. What if the accused didn't do it? How does that said person get their reputation back? What about Due Process? For the men who did "do it" they're getting what they deserve, but I'm not comfortable assuming all women are righteous. Experience has taught me not all of women are righteous.

    • @constituenta5293
      @constituenta5293 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no 'due process' in the workplace. It is incumbent on the terminated to file civil action if they feel they have been wrongfully terminated (except in states with right-to-work laws, where employers may terminate any time without notice and do no have to provide a reason at all).

    As a professional woman within the construction industry I know how condescension and unwanted advances can become pervasive. Luckily I surround myself with intelligent and professional men in my work but I do encounter these circumstances. Certainly some women may be inappropriate toward men at times, but in the workplace in my experience it is overwhelmingly the opposite. This must stop, and it is good to see that there are consequences. One can push back with bravado but once you don't feel safe, or feel insulted or are actually assaulted, it must be addressed immediately. It is disgusting that someone who views themselves to be in a position of 'power' can just do what they want in any situation toward any person.

    i have an issue with how these anchors are speaking about laurer as if he died or something. okay, we know you worked with him and considered him a friend and had great memories with him, but what they are doing is humanizing a horrible act that this man committed by giving sympathy and personality his image. i understand that it is difficult to suddenly see someone you've known for so long in a different light, but they need to be shown what they have done is disgusting and must be treated rightfully so. laurer has been hiding his wrongdoings without consequence for far too long and i'm glad we finally know the truth.

    So, as a #metoo victim, I just have to ask: If you had known what he was doing, would you still "love" him, "respect" him? If it had been known what he was doing, would he still have reached such a high place in his career? For those who did know or suspicion but took no action to, at minimum confront him, at most, expose him? Do you now "respect" yourself, "love" yourself?

    You reconcile their bad behavior by calling them out on their bad behavior and telling them how disgusting it is. I can’t really sit here and watch savanna Guthrie crying and telling us how much she loves Matt.

    When will it stop? When all men are out of jobs and shamed? It’s not harassment to hit on women.

    • @wewemcrhyne
      @wewemcrhyne 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oak OC - yes, it is. Do not "hit on" a woman in the workplace! They do not want your attention! Especially if you are her boss, or in a place of power over her. She is just trying to do her job.

    • @oakoc934
      @oakoc934 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wewe Mcrhyne I get that. However people work for most of the hours out of their day. It’s a natural response for people to feel attracted. At no point should someone exert their dominance by aggression or threats, but among peers, I think there is nothing wrong with the birds and the bees among consenting adults

    • @johnlamphier9812
      @johnlamphier9812 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oak OC. Hit on and compliment two different things.

    • @oakoc934
      @oakoc934 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Lamphier what are you saying? It’s not harassment to compliament or hit on anyone anywhere. This is a free country. But once someone refuses advances then the pursuer should respectfully fade away. But hitting on and complementing though different should not be illegal nor looked down upon
