    Why are people turning this into a left vs right issue. These victims are Americans, they are our friends and neighbors... they are our mothers,daughters,sisters and more...they need our help and support now more than ever. Stop fighting for your party and fight for human decency. Everyone should feel safe in the place they work!

    The guest in the white turtleneck had the most to contribute on this topic and was the only actual expert in the area. Good hosts should not compete with their guests to score points---esp when the guest is clearly bringing so much insight, compassion, and gentleness.

      Polite discussion is a thing of the past. People now interrupt to keep the truth or an opposite opinion from being stated.
      The way now to win a discussion is to be the loudest and the last one to talk.

  • @tessie7e

    What Mika is trying to say is if the company culture is that large numbers of women are flirting and more with a man, he comes to presume his attentions must be desired by all women and he becomes angry or mocking or worse when he discovers a woman who doesn’t want to play. It is ironically precisely the consensual stuff that leads to these other behaviors. We all need to get woke that the workplace should get a whole lot more formal.

    I get the concept that Matt probably should not have made this so long winded, but a couple of take-aways. At least he apologized. Charlie Rose apologized. Al Franken as well. You always see the liberal folks fessing up when caught. You rarely see it from the likes of Trump & Moore. Conservatives tend to dig in their heels to the end. The difference between embracing empathy & despising empathy. Also, how many more people of celebrity are freaking out knowing they could be next because of their own past behaviour?

  • @suzettewright7009
    @suzettewright7009 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In watching this segment I am glad to see both men and women coming together have this discussion. It's clear that every company, network, organization, and industry needs to take part in examining this issue and work together to come up with a solution. The solution has to start with education and training, clear policies that outline what is acceptable and not acceptable in the workplace, and end with holding people accountable. This is a gross misuse of power and it has to stop.
    Trump, the man who holds the most powerful position in this country is himself guilty of the same thing all of these men are being fired for and yet he was still elected to President. How do you explain or justify that? It sends mixed messages and confuses the youth in this country and until that gets addressed we are NOT really addressing this issue in an honest manner.

      Well, there might be a legitimate question about his relationship with Mika. They are not complete equals on the show, so if you begin talking about power dynamics in a sexual relationship, there hits a point where there may be some discomfort or hypocrisy. It's worked to the point of their engagement, but if it hadn't, would there have been a fair claim by Mika?

      In some ways, that's already happening. I think one of the reasons why we have seen this sea change in culture is the fact that the old big businesses no longer have the power they used to. Because of technology, we don't have to rely on the NBCs and Weinstein Cos. like we used to. The economics of media & entertainment have become completely democratized.

    This was Mika and Joe's chance to really address this issue head-on as they will soon be spouses who met at the workplace AND they were both philanderers who were together before they publicly came forward. Sham on Mika for not using her own experience as a powerful woman in the workplace as an example of how she is not a victim, but she was someone who was behaving badly. They specifically know the shades of gray to this because they lived it. I think she should have been more honest here and shown they are not always the hero. It would have humanized her and shown she is a flawed relatable person who has navigated this challenging landscape.

    Mika always seems like his toy like when Joe wants to speak, even when Mika is talking about her own experiences, he has to make it about him or a wider picture. The past 30 years i've seen attractive women use their appeal to surpass equal and often superior colleauges. I've seen it over and over, first hand. In this culture you can't say anything about this, you can't call it out because it's not politically correct. Yes men abusing power is wrong , but women are doing it all the time too...even if the men they use are not a victim, the people around them who got passed by are the victim .

      Diane Olivier - Agree. It was another time and culture. If he did anything against someone's Will, I would not say that. If he did, I apologize. I haven't heard it. That's why even today, companies are RE-educating what is and is not appropriate behavior in the workplace. Sad that they have to, but people are waking up.

    This criticism by Del Percio is rather shrill. No words will sound very good just now. I see nothing wrong with Matt speaking of the harm he has caused his family as well as others. After all, his family and those he intruded upon are the most severely injured. Trust is so painfully broken.

  • @JustAThought155
    @JustAThought155 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    When the man in glasses speaks, he is categorizing what is considered sexual harassment. The reality is, a philanderer IS a harasser. A "59 year old man" who makes sexual remarks to anyone, outside of his own partner, is a harasser, especially in ANY work place. I think clear lines must be drawn to understand the definition of harassment, which is defined as "an unpleasant or hostile situation for especially by uninvited and unwelcome verbal or physical conduct" (Merriam-Webster).

  • @twiedenfeld

    There is no such thing as an "open secret", it is an oxymoron. That is all. Worse thing, is Matt Lauer penalized a woman for not engaging him. What do you think that other intern was thinking when he locked his door and told her to remove her blouse? Goes back to the woman who was penalized for saying no.
