Why do you like 45:1 ratio? Is it just because it ends the confusion on 40:1 or 50:1?

I do not 𝙇𝙤𝙖𝙣 any equipment out to anyone. I just got tired of getting my equipment ruined or damaged by idiots. If someone needs a tree cut down or cut up I do it for them. It is just a bad policy to loan equipment to folks, these days because they can damage your equipment, damage other property or hurt themselves. Guess who the will sue if they do. It is just best to let them buy their own equipment if they need it. I do not even loan out my loppers to anyone because I have had to go searching for them in the past and found them lying in the yard of the person I loaned them to. He left them at the location that he finished using them. People are just not responsible, anymore and if they have problems it is someone else’s fault.

I'm going to take your advice and mix my fuel a little bit more concentrated. But at what point does the mixture become too oily? I usually mix in single-bottle batches, say 2.5 litres to a 50ml oil bottle, if that's what I have on hand, but I always swish out the bottle with the mixture to make sure the oil is all in. Mostly because I'm a cheapskate. But I like the brief feeling of smug superiority I get imagining that others don't... but it only lasts until I fire up my gutless (but clean and well-tended) MS170. I've used it for many years with no issues. My personal thoughts on the extra oil......always better to be a little rich with oil than gas.
And....you'll never have the wrong or questionable mix.
Always mix with the highest octane available. You may be able to get 100 octane, leaded fuel at your local airport.

I have never loaned out my chainsaws and to make sure that they have the proper oil/gas mixture in them by using the mixed fuel which is premium gas mixed with the oil to be perfect for the saw. Since I have cranking problems with my gas saws I use a Poulan Pro battery saw which does most of what I want done.

Super tech oil from walmart has the 2 cycle oil with a graduated chamber on top. Squeeze the proper amount in ounces from the chart on the label, pour it in a gallon container, and mix it up. Simple, clean, efficient to use. Quality of the oil has never caused any issues or problems with all my 2 cycle gear.

I sometimes use a little more oil in the fuel than recommended. Apart from being a bit more smokey, there seems to be no problem. What are your thoughts? I don't do it deliberately by the way. It just so happens out in the bush that a bit more oil gets added than should be. Also, how old is too old fuel? 4 weeks sitting in a container? more or less?

What is your view on using high octane petrol in two stroke mix? My understanding is they use volitile chemicals to raise the octane and they have a short shelf life. That is cheaper than refining it to a higher spec'. They quickly break down. You have mentioned somewhere that modern gas damages carbs. Also gas containing methanol includes water and can draw it out of condensation and that affects it's power. Is any of this true in your view?
