I was in the crowd when they sung this in 1986 at Wembley (and at Knebworth too) and we all stayed silent as we just wanted to hear the song and Freddie completely blew it out of the park. I was 16 and am now 50 and he's my hero, always has been, always will be RIP Freddie my love

This is a song where you could hear a pin drop in the background, everyone is mesmerized by Freddie. By the way, Brian May is a fabulous guitar player, others can sound louder or noisier or faster, but Brian's guitar sings and cries for us, so full of emotion that travels from his heart, through his fingers, to the strings!

If the thousands and thousands of fans here had known Freddie would be gone so soon, the field would have been filled with tears!
Nobody can tug my heart strings like Freddie, there are quite a few Queen songs that make me cry and this particular version is one of them. It's a little strange because the recorded version doesn't, I think it's because of what Freddie brings to a live version, he makes you feel the emotion and passion in the song.

Roger & Freddie’s vocals really complimented each other so well. They would decide before the show how much roger would support Freddie.
Freddie Mercury is THE person I would bring back for 24 hours and spend time with him. So he could experience life as it is today and his reaction to social media and so everybody could hear him one more time. Please watch the One Vision documentary, it has it all. An insight to how they created music together, it is funny, the message to the song is special. It is wonderful!! Oh and it was very common for Freddie to sing the lower parts while on tour and so many parts in his range when they were in studio. If you consider it they would go in studio, produce an album, and then go on these long tours. Over and over again. Grueling schedule, so Freddie taking the lower parts makes sense to save his voice. Especially when you have Roger Taylor to take those higher parts so well!! ❤️ ❤️ 🔥 🔥 ❤️ ❤️
This is one of my favorite live performance by Queen. His vocals on this song gives me chills.

Yes it was brilliant but at the time I took it for granted , thinking FM would be around for much longer.

dont know if its been mentioned before but when brian is playing the piano he already has his guitar on his lap and strap so when he gets up from the piano he can play straight away hence in the video one minute hes sitting then a few seconds later he is playing guitar

This looks like the Saturday concert. The Friday concert, same set list, done completely in the rain. Freddie is sick both nights. The Friday concert is my fav, it is so loose, they look like they are having a blast.
Today I played a CD and heard Sarah Brightman sing this song, and she did it full justice!

I really liked your reaction. You asked for more vocal life performances. I think you picked already the best one by watching to somebody to love live at Montreal '81. But from this concert you really should check out save me and I'm in love with my car (Roger on drums and singing this song - a fantastic performance). Dragon attack from this concert is an amazing instrument performance of the whole band.
And now I go and check out if you liked somebody to love...
Last year they performed live. Still did studio work almost till he passed. Mother love was the last vocals of Freddies Brian had to finish the song as Freddie passed away. His vocals were fine till the end.

This was from the Friday concert. At the Saturday concert he hit some of the higher notes in this song. I can recommend listening to the whole concert (the Saturday concert was the best, if you ask me).
I absolutely love this performance. One of my favorited. bout the notes thing, this is how he always sang this live. I don't think it mattered if his voice was in great shape or not, that's how he sang it live. Same with Bohemian Rhapsody when he sang "so you think you can live me and leave me to die" In the recording he went up on the word die, which he basically never did live. He did the c5 Phrasing on Bohemian Rhapsody several times. Newcastle 1979, Glasgow 1979, a few other shows as well.

There are loads of examples of Freddie going lower and Rog taking the high note. There is a gig with freds voice busted and rog singing alot. But the band just play harder and better at times
The song was written for the movie Highlander.
This song was written for the soundtrack of the movie Highlander which was about a man who was immortal, couldn't die and yet the woman he fell in love with lived and died a normal life. Very poignant.

Honestly the note Roger hit was only a4, not that high to be honest, and he's only using the same chest voice as Freddie is.
Yes it is not high for roger....
And not for freddie as well
But still considering his voice has gone deeper compared to the early 80s and constant touring
It is necessary to save the voice so that he can go through the whole set and not worn out his voice.
@@shaggyisbae Actually in some parts Freddie's voice seems higher in this performance than the studio, in 1.50 mark he even lifts his feet up and the sound and power he creates is earthly.

This performance is epic indeed. What about Freddie wasn't? Adam Lambert will never have the personality Freddie had, but challenges him on the voice. Watch saturday, it's much better. This was friday and he had a cold. And don't stop in the middle of a queen song. Don't do it! ;-)
