    I'm a huge fan of the minimalist mom Dawn. Ive been decluttering and simplifying other aspects of my life with her encouragement for a year. It has made such a huge impact on me. Your regular routine is brilliant to keep on top of it and not get out of hand again. X

    I’ve started from beginning of your videos, love them! I love fly lady but you are what I needed. Her site I found overwhelming sometimes and long videos made me spend precious time sitting in front of computer procrastinating further. You are my fly lady for the today mom with kids! Maybe you should be the flymom :)
    Hope all progresses well with your pregnancy!

    I decluttered the "junk" drawer in my kitchen. You know the one.... LOL. The drawer with old keys and batteries and one glove and loose change.... yes... that one. It was so satisfying when I was done. Yea !!!

      I’m still avoiding the junk drawer, and I’ve been doing Fly Lady for 8 months! But, I did finally declutter my bedroom closet.

    It is amazing what you can declutter in 15 min.
    I had three bags of items I cleared from Hotspots when I wanted those areas when company was coming. Tonight I dumped the contents on the counter and sorted them in garbage, recycle, put away and then put 2 items on desk, so tomorrow I can make a file for them. I was shocked, it took such a short time!

      That is awesome! The old garbage bag trick - a classic secret slob move :) Glad you got through all of the stuff, I bet it felt amazing!

    My dishwasher is broken so I do dishes by hand which I actually enjoy once I figured out if I loosely organized them ie cups/glasses, plates stacked, etc it didn't scramble my brain. I leave them to dry in the dish rack but this morning I decided to put everything away even though I know I'm going to be using them all again today. It was al bullfight moment that I need to train my brain with a new habit. After I declutter under my sink I hope to set up like the Flylady does to keep the counter clear during the day. I've been on a massive declutter mission so sticking to fifteen minutes at a time is going to be a lark. I spent two hours shredding every day for three days and I could hardly move. My house is so badly cluttered with four generations of "stuff"; from my parents house when they passed away, from my kids when they moved out and left stuff behind and my granddaughter. I am an emotional clutter person, what Peter Walsh calls the 'family historian" but I'm drowning in it. I don't want to leave my house stuffed for my kids to have to deal with like I did my parents and I would like to live the rest of my life more peacefully and not constantly stressed. This is what through me trying to do the Flylady system in a really cluttered house. So even small routines like getting dressed, shining the sink, and doing one load of laundry while hitting hotspots and decluttering is huge. It's amazing how much can get decluttered in fifteen minute chunks. Again, I am so glad you are doing this because it just confused me when I tried to do it on my own. I wished I had a sister to help me figure this out and this is the best next thing for those of us who only had brothers, especially when they were far neater.

    Thanks for pointing out that I shouldn’t start zone cleaning until my decluttering is done. I needed that tip! I’ve got my morning & evening routines down pat and this weekend is my first weekly home blessing (I work full-time Mon-Fri). I have some piles in a few corners that I need to deal with so I’ll start my decluttering now with a 15 minute session.

      Perfect! Once you have it decluttered, just sub the 15 minutes of zone cleaning in :)

    Hey!
    Today I wash a lot of dishes! Even it is the First of May. I had an inspiration to make dishes and cleaning the sink. I do the dishes by hand. You are so inspirational! I belong to a Facebook group here in Finland about FlyLady but I am still doing the decluttering. Have done it for several years and I live alone with my cat. Scandinavian minimalism. Well I guess many Scandinavian people have never heard of it. Because here are a lot of hoarders too. Maybe I use it, maybe some day.. And on it goes.. Every where there is stuff.
    Happy First of May! Keep up your inspirational vlogs 👍 Thank you!

    Did this today! Set my timer and tackled an area that bothers me every day. It starts as an, “I’ll just put this here for now...” but clutter attracts clutter and before you know it, huge pile! I’ve put off cleaning it up because I thought it would take hours (can you hear the whiny voice?). It took just over twelve minutes. So that spot is on my Two Minute Hot Spot radar now - tidy it up every day! Thank you for this video - I wasn’t feeling well but I made my bed, unloaded dishes, reloaded, wiped down my counters - shiny sink! - and did this 15 minute declutter. Even if I don’t get anything else done today, I feel like I accomplished something!

    Hi Steph. I had to take a sick day yesterday. I almost took another one today but decided the steps were manageable enough even if I don’t feel well. So in the time it took for you to declutter your pantry, I decluttered the bottom shelf of my pantry : ) My bottom shelf had spilled flour and who knows what else that needed to be swept then mopped. Then I went through the outdated food and threw it away and tried to put everything back in some sort of order. In my house everything falls to the bottom. The rest of the pantry will be easier because thankfully food doesn’t fall up :) Thanks again for your videos!

    I've been putting off the mess in my sofa for weeks, I reluctantly decided to tackle it as today's 15 minutes declutter and it took me less than 10 mins to clean it, it's incredible how much just having a timer helps to realize it was not that bad...
    Like, when I used to do full apartment cleanings for when my parents were visiting I used the entirety of a day and ended exhausted, but doing small tasks every day has made such a difference... thanks for introducing me to this method, it's made me dread cleaning waaaay less.

    So I love your videos and agree with everyone here that you have great camera presence, authenticity, and are so positive. I saw several of your videos, checked out the flylady's site, and am now trying to implement it...here's my question...are you not supposed to clean until your whole house is decluttered? if that were the case for me i'd be living in filth...i'm a bit of a pack rat and have stuff everywhere, i work full time, and have 2 small kids...hence 15 min of decluttering a day is going to take a long time before i actually get to clean some zones...that can't be right? any advice is much appreciated.

    • @Bluegrassgirl45
      @Bluegrassgirl45 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luna282011; The weekly Home Blessing gets some of the surface cleaning done,. I’m the same to the point I have to combine zone cleaning with the decluttering.... declutter night stand? Have Pledge and a rag or paper towels handy and clean as you go! The one thing you DON’T have to do is look at a clump of pet hair on the floor and leave it because you’re “decluttering” LoL or you’re not in _that_ Zone. This system frees you to be spontaneous while giving you Wings in the guise of structured timed events!

    What would you recommend for someone without a dish washer?

    • @TheSecretSlob
      @TheSecretSlob  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For when to do your dishes? I still do at least a little sink full by hand after every meal. Pots and baby bottles and whatnots. I figure since they will have to be done eventually anyways, may as well do them right away and then enjoy having a clear counter and clean sink.

    • @whoatemychocolate4222
      @whoatemychocolate4222 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Fill your sink with hot soapy water before you start cooking. Wash things as you use and finish with them. It only takes a few seconds per item and you’ll have finished most of the washing by the time you’re ready to serve. Put on some upbeat music while you cook/clean to make it fun!

      Yep! Add it to your daily routine :)

  • @greenserene2676
    @greenserene2676 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question: I have been actively decluttering my home since about 2014. I am by no means a person who has a completely uncluttered space. So is the 15 min declutter something we add to our morning routine just like our 2 min hotspot? Or is the 15 min declutter just for today? It might not take me all 17 mins to fix spaces. I adore this system and mostly want a better cleaning regimen.

    • @TheSecretSlob
      @TheSecretSlob  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your house is already decluttered, you could skip ahead to the zone cleaning. I started with decluttering because my house was out of control and as flylady says 'you can't clean clutter' :)

  • @njoyn1909
    @njoyn1909 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you add more time on the timer if one of your kids pulls you away right in the middle of it? That’s what always makes it hard for me, try to get going on something and someone needs something constantly drink, food, potty, boo boo, fighting etc 😓

    • @TheSecretSlob
      @TheSecretSlob  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope :) Just get a quick fix for them and keep chugging. I really try to do this stuff while they nap or are busy with something, but when they need ya, they need ya :)

    @ORSkie 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does anyone else struggle with the desire to continue past the 15 minutes when decluttering? Especially when doing areas that are used multiple times per day? I don't mind going in 15 minute increments when I'm doing areas of the house that I can close a door to - in fact it's really beneficial because I agree it helps it feel doable and it doesn't tire me out... but for instance when I do the hallway where we walk in and out several times per hour (farm home), I feel like if I stop before I'm done it's just going to clutter up & get dirty faster than I'm dealing with it.
    For instance, today I spent 90 mins in that area (and I'm not done!), but I feel like I'm to the point where I could leave it till tomorrow and it wouldn't be completely undone on me...
    BUT I'm also tired and it will make it harder to tackle such a project again knowing that it took longer than 15 minutes...
    Anyone have any tips?

    • @Bluegrassgirl45
      @Bluegrassgirl45 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      OceanSkye2; Do what you already said; you got the bulk under control, so for the rest of the week or however long it takes - just do the 15 min declutter. Actually unless you have another major hot spot ( we all do ) you could use your 2 minutes later to tackle a smidgeon more.... Plus 2 min hotspot fire drills don’t have to be confined to one a day.

  • @mgcap-p6v
    @mgcap-p6v 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just a silly question: isn’t decluttering the same that tackling a hotspot?

      Hotspots are those places which are clutter magnets no matter what e.g dining table (kids toys, papers, empty cups etc etc chairs have jumpers and sweatshirts hanging from teens) but the decluttering is moreof a deep clean and sort in a particular area that hasnlt seen aloving touch for a while.
