Why is fortnite removing emotes?

Welcome back to the channel ladies and gentlemen, fortnite has introduced a new setting to be able to turn off certain emotes because they are deemed to offensive, why is fortnite doing this?

Wasn't these turned off in the receiving end? i.e. you can do the emotes as much as you want but people on the other end have the option to turn it off?
As for "make it plantain", it has been used as a racist slur emote, hence its inclusion in the list.
