For a country that churns out millions of Engineers each year, how come our Engineering is so poor?
Funds are allocated only for generating more revenue, not for design and construction quality and upkeep. Until we prioritise upkeep and maintenance (no matter how unsexy it is), lives will keep getting lost.

Hi Faye, thx for the incisive piece. Agree 100% with ur views. I'm at a loss... We hear (see! 😊people like you) speaking of citizens demanding accountability from the Govt. I have no idea how to do that. TH-cam episodes by responsible journalists like you stop at that. How will the citizens demand accountability, now that Parliament is a farce with MPs (in the treasury and opposition benches) not taking up these issues.
There is no other alternative other than that, I know of. Political parties and MPs are busy worrying about their own survival.
PRAY! ENLIGHTEN US - HOW DO WE CITIZENS MAKE THE RULING DISPENSATION (3.0) ACCOUNTABLE!!

In capitalism, corruption is considered as grease that lubricates the system. Because capital or money is at centre of this system. Until we make this system accountable nothing changes. But then, the people who are supposed to make this system accountable are already corrupt.

    - Are there too much interference by politicians in name of governance?
    - Is there a erosion in core engineering skills as Civil, with explosion of engg. institutes?
    - Is there increased corruption and loot, sub-standard material and workmanship?

Rain is not the culprit for this disaster . Here in G. BRT., London, GERMANY, France, and many more up North. Construction is designed to withstand all kind of weather.
Indian major cities have no snowfall at all .
So why is the Indian Government blaming the rain fall disaster. The ruling Government is to be blamed for privatizing all airports. If India Railways is owned and operated by the Indian government, then why can’t the Ruling government own and operate the airports.
Secondly we demand that the foreign NTSB investigates every civil aviation accident and significant accidents in other modes of transportation. Based on their investigative findings and special studies, the board makes recommendations aimed at preventing future accidents i

It is likely a combination of poor analysis and design in engineering, use of substandard materials to cut costs, and ignoring industry standards and factor of safety guidelines. Civil engineering is a well developed field and such structural failures are inexcusable. The vendors are likely trying to make profits after bidding with ultra low prices to get the government contracts which always go to lowest cost bidders .

  • @Uno.Numero
    @Uno.Numero 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

From the Structural Engineering Perspective you not only take into consideration the weight of the roof (deadweight) but also windspeed effect. From what i can visualize from your video is that the steel connections where inferior and inadequate and also inferior steel quality was used.
I dare anyone to inspect this structure using IS800 and IS6916(1973) codes and I'm rather certain this structure will not meet any codes specified both of the Indian Standard Codes for Streel Structures and Indian Standard Codes for Steel Structure Fabrication and Wielding..
    I Dare.
But, then again, when masses are fools, such idiotic excuses are made by the media.

  • @SanthoshKumar-ye3sh

The canopy collapses which we are seeing is majority because of lack of preventive maintenance not carried out by the airport authority on time .
Before rains, the maintenance team has to clear all the drain water system blockages over the canopy/terrace failing which water may accumulate and the terrace may collapse. The canopies are designed to provide shade and shelter under sun and rain, it can also withstand heavy winds but not designed to hold weight over a prolonged period of time. In this case it a clear rain water drain blockage resulting in accumulation of rain water triggering roof collapse.
This was totally the fault of the airport operator/maintenance team. What is more disgusting is that airlines pay airport fee for the use of airport facilities related to the use of airport infrastructure such as runways and passenger terminals.

“The root cause of these problems lies in the lack of accountability and disregard for both human life and property. Additionally, highly skilled professionals become disillusioned with our system and choose to migrate to other countries where their expertise is recognized. Unfortunately, what remains for us are tragic incidents resulting in loss of life. Furthermore, individuals with political connections often end up in positions where they are unfit to design and build airports.”
