    To answer you question:
-This is NOT a patriotic song at all, the story of why he did this song is: "ok guys we need one more song to complete the album any ideas ?" and Michel and his team had a holidays pub on the room for the connemara lakes in Ireland.
-The meaning of this song is a description of Connemara lakes in ireland, irish people, irish culture from the eyes of Michel Sardou. With the lyrics you can close your eyes and make a picture of all of it.

:-) To pronounce his name I guess you could say something like "me-shell sahr-doo", if it makes sense ^^

Read the translation of the lyrics and you will understand, it's about the hard life in Ireland in the past. He sings that living in Connemara is madness and that madness can be danced. Ireland is the country of whiskey, horses, arid moors, bagpipes... it's a wonderful country and it's a Frenchman who says so. And for beautiful countries we are experts. If I had to leave France I would go to Ireland, certainly not to the USA.

This song refers to a region of Ireland, the Connemara Lakes - thus the partly Celtic music - but it is iconic in France (as well as in the French speaking parts of Belgium and Switzerland). So iconic that a tour of the Connemara has become a must for all French tourists who visit Ireland.

For a first listening, excellent comments and a fair vision of the musical cut of this song ! Ditto for the powerful but quiet voice of this fantastic singer. It's a pity that his texts have often been controversial, like this hymn on this ultra-Catholic and fundamentally anti-English region of Ireland. But what beautiful melodies and what superb harmonies...

I loved it as a ( Dutch) child. Its à master pièce and a à anthem. One of the best French singers ever sings about a district in Ireland. I feel the Celtic connection between France and Ireland. Technically fantastic and boasting of melancholy. God this is one of the best songs ever.

I love that Americans react to European songs… we Europeans have been blessed with these kinds of music.

This song is symbolic celtic song, celtic irish (Connemara 's Lake),celtic french (french are a territory celtic like as ,Ireland, Scotland,Wales,Belgium,Holland,Spain,Portugal,North Italia,Swissterland, and part of germany)
This song is for friendly French/Irish symbol ,because in this time Noth Ireland is in civil war against english occupation

I totally agree with you... Ireland is cut in two parts, and knew war a long time. The north is in the UK and the south is free. It's mainly a religion war, the South is Catholic. The Conemara is in the south, maybe the horses are the symbol of freedom. France and South Ireland are very friends, I visited it a long time ago, I really felt the friendship between our two countries, a crazy memory to me. Love from France 🇫🇷😘

@@isabelledrevet5913 I only discovered this song when working in France in the 1990's and loved it. It's a pity it's not better known in Ireland. Just re Southern Ireland and France being 2 friendly countries. This is true except I wouldn't call Southern Ireland 'a country'. For me and many in Ireland [I live in the North] - all of
Ireland is just one country and I reject the very idea of the so-called 'uk' and the British partition of Ireland.

I guess the horses represent Connemara Ponies The Connemara Pony (Irish: Capaillín Chonamara) is a pony breed originating in Ireland. They are known for their athleticism, versatility and good disposition. The breed makes excellent show ponies.
