Just got Catan and agree with your review. I had avoided it for a while because it seemed boring or complicated but it has a “just right” quality to it. It makes for nice family time
Couldn't agree more. It's the perfect blend of resource management, area control, trading/interaction & dice rolling. Without the luck factor of the dice it would be pretty dry, I think the dice just adds excitement including occasional frustration when it doesn't go your way but I think that's all part and parcel of it. I don't understand why so many people claim Chinatown kills it, when all you do in Chinatown is trade. Chinatown is fun, but doesn't have enough meat to keep coming back to it. I also don't get why people say so many newer games do it better, when nothing is like Catan IMO.

We made catan the opening salvo of a board game month that included nemesis and twilight imperium 4th edition. The friends copy of catan was still brand new. We opened it up and had a great time. Catan is still fun to play!

I'm going to be honest this is one of the most boring games for me, I think I'm just used to more complicated games. Edit: I think it'd be more fun if I could kill my opponent as an option 🤣

No such thing as a bad beer, some are just better than others. Board games are much the same. Catan and its expansions should always be highly ranked as a goat contender. 🐑🧱🪵🪨🌾

It gets a bit of flack these days but we still love it...looking forward to the starfarers reprint.
We still break it out whenever my daughter comes home from college. My friend gave me the 3D version that comes in this big wooden chest. Remarkable.

I've never played but it sounds great, would it be realistic to think my 7 year old might enjoy it - or should I wait a few years?
7 is probably too young but there’s a kids edition available so that might be better 👍🏻

Try Ticket To Ride, though there is a version of Catan for younger players.

There are two player iterations of it like Struggle for Catan but I’ve not played it.

I can understand that mate. We always have a laugh when playing this. A lot of people don’t like the random element and I get that.
