The pen torch is worth getting one that you vary the brightness on because patients will complain if it's really bright. And also the white one you got tends run out of battery quickly and be too dim to elecit a proper reflex. I'll try and find a good one
I must have been high when I wrote that. Anyways, I can't find an adjustable brightness pen torch. Brightest one I've used is the Duracell one on Amazon but it's got a wide beam so kinda covers both eyes at once, so less accurate pupil test. I would probably still stick to it and maybe paint the edges of the 'light nib' with permanent black marker so it's narrower and dimmer.
Even its a long time, might I suggest the mt06 md penlight, 3 strengths of light. A bit pricey at ard 20£, but definitely one of the best I’ve ever had.
Ollie very useful video! Even if I am not a doctor, allow me to urge you to consider the modern SMARTPHONE as the most advanced tool ever made to easily carry around as a doctor. Seriously speaking, we are heading towards a future where smartphones will come packed with little sensors/add ons that will gather critical data when examining a patient, send it on the cloud via the 24/7 internet mobile connection, AI analyze it, and send back recommendations in seconds with very high accuracy! I hope I gave you a good idea for a video down the road :) Cheers, keep up the good work!
“An expensive one isn’t necessary” (proceeds to hold up a $250 stethoscope and then recommend you get the same kind everyone else can “accidentally” walk off with) lol ok.
Basically the situation is when you start med school in the UK there are huge deals on new stethoscopes and this is the most common model! I paid the equivalent of about 95 dollars for my Classic III in 2017.

That's a good thought, will give it a go! Will ask patients next time I'm on the wards what they think :)
