I love Brosnan’s Bond movies. They aren’t about sullen, emo Bond, they are pure escapist fun with beautiful locations, interesting scenarios, cool weapons, and Bond saving the day. And there is the occasional serious scene between e.g. M and Bond thrown in to keep things grounded

This action sequence is clumsy, logically stupid, lousy edited and filmed. The 1977 ski intro from The Spy Who Loved Me is way superior with gorgious wide shots and none of this clumsy bullshit.
Amazing how all of them exploded as soon as they hit anything....even more amazing that a parachute with damage to the left end cells was turning RIGHT.....Sigh.
Imagine how effective it would have been to just kill james bond in the 60's. they had the chance like 100 times already. then these skibuggies could have gone unharmed.
I had this pointed out to me (shoutouts to loadingreadyrun) but at 3:50 he drops this suave quip because he assumed he'd already got that guy dead to rights, but then the second parachute deploys and his smirk vanishes instantly. Nobody was in earshot to pick up on the fact that he delivered that one-liner prematurely, but you still get the sense he's just as disappointed at the ruined comedic moment as he is at the fact that he now has to come up with another way to take the guy down.
That's kind subversive for a bond film, usual the villain's nameless minion dose not provide any challenge to bond and never gets the drop on him, he dose so but only briefly of course. Its a nice and funny touch.

I completely agree with the sentiment that he was looking away to do a new variant of the “cool guys don’t look at the explosion” bit, I thought this was right for years, however after closer scrutiny I now see he’s actually messing with the piece of fabric he just ripped off the parachute that’ll be given to Robbie Coltrane in a few scenes
Because for once, even if it was very short-lived, a henchman managed to outsmart Bond after the latter had pulled on of his famous one-liners by deploying that parachute. Bond was like "Oh no you didn't" and then jumped to rip that parachute.
How does Q Branch always manage to equip Bond with the perfect load out? Nothing ever goes unused. Every gadget always seems to get used as intended. The most superfluous thing Bond ever seems to carry is some extra ammo.
This is the exact thing Roger Ebert once pointed out on Siskel & Ebert. Though the sly smile on his face when he said it showed he liked that plot device.

I think it's mostly due to the plot being rather unoriginal to an extent and Denise Richards' rather wooden performance (Elektra Knight was a lot better tbh). But the action scenes are fun to watch and Pierce Brosnan as ever delivers a fine performance. Still I would rather watch this film over Die Another Day, A View To Kill, Octopussy, Diamonds Are Forever or even Spectre that's for sure.

The funny thing about this scene is that, technically speaking, everything was going to plan for Elektra until she and Bond were caught in the avalance. She lured Bond to the mountains to have her men kill him without incident, but he managed to not only survive the Parahawk attack but destroy all of them and caused the avalance. Assuming Bond didn't have R's protective jacket, they were indeed buried alive at that point. When she has a panic attack at 5:10 it's completely genuine. Even though she ultimately manipulated Renard to work for her, she was his prisoner for some time beforehand and in that moment of being buried alive she was succumbing to severe PTSD from all the things she went through. You can hear it in her voice, she's on the verge of complete mentally breakdown the only thing keeping her sane is Bond. Eventually Elektra would use him for her plans as well, but in that moment and a short while after it's hard to argue that she didn't feel genuine affection for Bond, even if only for a moment.

The World Is Not Enough promised a lot but never quite delivered. It's polished and looks good but something is missing.

The ski chase reminds me a lot of On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
After Casino Royale this is my second favorite bond. Great acting, great action, great music.
What is even more amazing is the lack of avalanches from all these explosions.

There is something kinda funny about the crash at 3:23 if you think about it. The idea that a jet ski would explode into flames from ramming into a snowy embankment. Peek 90's action film. Every crash needs a fiery explosion.

The funny thing about this scene is that, technically speaking, everything was going to plan for Elektra until she and Bond were caught in the avalance.
She lured Bond to the mountains to have her men kill him without incident, but he managed to not only survive the Parahawk attack but destroy all of them and caused the avalance. Assuming Bond didn't have R's protective jacket, they were indeed buried alive at that point.
When she has a panic attack at 5:10 it's completely genuine. Even though she ultimately manipulated Renard to work for her, she was his prisoner for some time beforehand and in that moment of being buried alive she was succumbing to severe PTSD from all the things she went through.
You can hear it in her voice, she's on the verge of complete mentally breakdown the only thing keeping her sane is Bond. Eventually Elektra would use him for her plans as well, but in that moment and a short while after it's hard to argue that she didn't feel genuine affection for Bond, even if only for a moment.

@@tlshortyshorty5810 That would be Stephan. I used to hike with him in his hometown of Chamonoix. He is really soft spoken, not a macho type how I picture stuntmen to be.
