- THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH opens with the longest pre-credit sequence in 007 history, lasting 14 minutes and features James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) in the Q Boat in high speed pursuit down the River Thames in London.
Captured by six different cameras, the boat’s mid-air barrel roll was performed by stuntman Gary Powell using Vickers air mortars attached to the side of the boat. The Q Boat is a custom-built vehicle with a V8 engine offering up 300bhp, designed by engineer and boat builder, Doug Riddle.
THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH premiered in 1999 and was directed by Michael Apted with Desmond Llewelyn as Q, as seen in this scene.

It’s amazing how Q is always working on the specific gadget Bond needs to beat that particular nemesis. I dare say, it’s almost as if he’s an INSIDE MAN.

And the original script had him using the jets and a boat that was sinking after being hit with a round from that gun she used then tossed away earlier to jump over the bridge. But during rehearsal the guy who built the Q Boat accidentally pulled both levers and the boat had so much stopping power that it forced the nose into the water. And since the boat still had its momentum. The boat dove completely underwater as it kicked up a lot of water in front. Everyone on shore and in chase boats thought that he had crashed and destroyed the boat around him. Instead the boat shot up out of the water a few yards from where it went in.

If there's one thing that you can't argue with the Brosnan era, it has perfected the most ridiculous action sequences in any Bond series. The St. Peterburg tank chase (Goldeneye), This scene, The Ice land car chase (Die Another Day), The Motorcycle chase in Beijing (Tomorrow Never Dies)
The parking garage car chase in Tomorrow Never Dies was the best car chase scene in the series too.
Motorcycle chase is actually in Hanoi, Vietnam; riding all the way from Caver's building there to crashing a copter.
They were supposed to be in Vietnam for the bike chase but they filmed it in Bangkok not Vietnam.
That bike scene was shot on location in Bangkok, Thailand dressed as Saigon HCMC in the story.
The tank chase in Goldeneye is my favorite. I love how Bond stops the tank to fix his tie before resuming the chase. So British...
Even if you don't like the movie, you can't deny that this opening chase is fantastic

It's got my favourite soundtrack in the series, and kd lang's Surrender is my favourite Bond Song (pity it was pushed to the credits late into production). Pierce and Michelle have great action scenes together, and Jonathan Pryce is absolutely fantastic as Elliot Carver. Highly underrated, at least in the circles I frequent.

Also, why in the world would you put power sockets, a computer and 2 monitors on either side of and right next to the boat's launching dock, where they'll always get splashed and sprayed with water each time the boat launches seriously risking them to a water shock short-circuit.

christop997 Cary Grant was 58 years old to when was offered the role of James Bond during pre production of Dr No in 1961 and Grant said he was too old to play Bond and didn’t want to commit to a multi picture deal. Grant was planning retire then from acting before he did Charade in 1963 and few other movies before he retired from acting for good in 1966. Ian Fleming initially didn’t like Sean Connery at first but changed his mind after seeing Connery in Dr No and From Russia With Love and was impressed with Connery. Fleming even changed Bonds heritage to have half Scottish in his books after seeing Connery.

One of the best openings of the Pierce Brosnan era and I never get tired of watching it because it is so impressive and fun to enjoy, we can say that filmaker Michael Apted did an excellent job of directing to make this boat-chase sequence incredibly memorable.

I like the fact that he got caught guard when the attack happens and it happens close to home at MI-6, and quickly adepts to the situation. First time we seen that in a Bond film.

I think it's magic they can stitch all those pieces of a city together and make it look seamless to everyone who doesn't know the locations. I particularly like the edit when he drives through the (added for film) boathouse and on to the street, and a red London bus in both shots makes it seem like the same location.
The continuity makes no sense if you examine it but when it's moving it all works.
The one that snaps me out of an otherwise perfect film is in Children of Men he drives up to Battersea Powerplant and then the interior is the Tate Modern. :-)

Yeah. Bond lost its soul and heart, when Craig joined. It simply lost its appeal for me, as it just feels like another boring action movie and not the awesome Bond films with Pierce Brosnan and the actors before him.

Behind the scene interviews reveal that Mr Brosnan fixing his tie underwater was not a part of the script.
Which is why many agree that Mr Brosnan is the best 007.

The Brosnan films were picture perfect and FUN. Not everything needs to be dark & gritty.

I loved Tomorrow Never Dies too bc it was the very first Bond film I was old enough to see in theaters with my dad. After I went back and watched all the old ones. But I was so excited for World is Not Enough as well and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s one of my favorites. This scene plus the score are great. I owned the ost on cd. The theme by garbage I loved too. All the bond films Pierce starred in minus Die Another Day had good songs. Goldeneye by Tina Turner, Tomorrow Never Dies by Sheryl Crow and this one by Garbage are phenomenal.
I was one of those people standing on the bridge watching this being filmed when I was on my lunch break.
I remember Pierce Brosnan looking up and grinning smugly at the people watching, perhaps thinking he really, actually was Bond after all? I shared an eye rolling moment with the guy standing next to me.

Unpopular opinion: this was the best of the Brosnan series, even Goldeneye.
I still put goldeneye *slightly* ahead, since the ending is Goldeneye is stronger (the submarine ending in TWINE is only ok), but there’s not much between them. Regardless, this was easily Brosnans best performance.
I think it easily could’ve been but the plot was a little too convoluted for me

I saw that dinky boat on the way to work once. I think they were warming it up before filming. It sounded awesome. It’s was being driven around the lock areas in dock lands. Can’t remember the year though.

Pierce brosnan was one of the best James bonds. He appeared in four James bond movies from 1995-2002. GoldenEye, the world is not enough, tomorrow never dies, and die another day. The last one , I think it was his best.

Die Another Day had a pretty good opening and the cars were fantastic. And I guess the first half wasn't too bad with the bit in Cuba. The rest was utter shit.
@@tams805 The start in North Korean was okish, Bond being captured was great but the rest of the film is borderline a bad comedy.

I wouldn't try to analyze Bond films too hard. You're talking about a boat, without wheels, driving on land.
Some mouth breather must've told the audio engineers to add the sound effects in to "make it sound cooler" or something.
I'll take nonsense drifty noises over the slide flute in TMWTGG any day lol.
