    Hmm, well I didn't lift weights before I was grown, so can't blame lifting weights on being 4'9" tall! Seriously, though, Dr. Youn. What can cause a person to be so short?? I wasn't premature and I don't think I was malnourished as an infant (I certainly wasn't as a child). My short stature is one of the things about my body that I am coming to accept about myself and given that I'm no longer willing to wear elevator shoes (to get to be 5'1"), I'm just going to be terminally short. I think it's genetics.....I don't know what's the height of your parents but let's assume they're of average height then also the genes of your ancestors sometimes can play a role in this.....there are rare cases who got problem with pituitary gland but then there would be weight issues also so if that's the case, go to a doctor......and I am happy for you that you're finally comfortable in your body, have a good one❤️❤️

      I know sometimes *when* you start puberty can come into play. The earlier you start, the shorter you’re likely to be (apparently). But it mostly just comes down to genetics and luck of the draw.

    However when you’re very young and do intense exercise e.g. gymnastics you can grow slower, cause your body simply put so much energy into the sport. there are examples of twins where one did intense gymnastics and was mich smaller than her twin, I think you catch up on growth though when you stop.

      I'm not familiar with the literature but I think that since being taller alters your center of mass thereby making gymnastics harder, taller people are also more likely to quit or stick to more recreational gymnastics. As a result, I think most of the gymnasts who remain tend to be shorter in general, and the growth thing might compound that.

      @JimCarrey2005 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Predicting growth is never accurate. I was supposed to be 5’5, yet I’m 6’2 and still growing. There’s a huge variation in growth and it’s not entirely determined by genetics. Gymnastics itself won’t stunt growth, but weight cutting during puberty definitely can.if you were regularly in a calorie deficit this could be the reason for some of your height. If a growth plate is injured it’s often quite obvious, because one leg will be significantly longer than the other.

    • @heckersson988

      The thing is it's probably not gymnastics in itself, probably lack of appropriate calorie consumption. Because gymnastics is a very physically draining activity, your food intake should be MUCH higher

    Dr., when I hear this theory, I think of it from a hormonal perspective. Lifting heavy and increasing muscle mass increases blood testosterone levels, so in theory you could stunt your growth by lifting so much that you produce enough testosterone to close your growth plates. If anyone sees this and knows the actual physiological answer to this theory I’d love to know it.

    Strength training does not stunt growth…. however, maximal lifting (highest weight amount you can lift one to three times) may put you at more risk for injury to the growing areas of a child's body. Therefore, max lifting should be discouraged until after puberty.

    it doesent effect your growth in anyway unless you start to do it from a very young age. The reason for this is cuz your body has not stopped growing yet therefore lifting from a young age makes the upper part of the body (somewhere where the shoulders are) heavier and makes it harder for your body to grow. In my opinion the perfect age to lift is at age 21

    • @CP55music
      @CP55music ปีที่แล้ว

      How old would you define as a young age?

  • @balbonits
    @balbonits ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For y'all young-ins (21 & under), please avoid injuries as much as you can! Master proper form, do warmups, stretches, & cool downs, and eat what's right for you. If you start doing the right habits early, it'll become more natural when you get older & "adulting" becomes a struggle.

    I experienced this in highschool actually. I was big into football and wrestling as well as martial arts. Because of the martial art I chose I got a phenomenon called micro-fractures (bones have little miniscule fractures that fill with calcium and become denser and stronger over time). At one point in my training I was able to break small trees with my shins.

      Cardio is better than lifting weights if you want to lose weight. Much easier and effective. If you want you can lift weight but it will be harder to get muscles because of the high estrogen(female hormones) and low testosterone (male hormones)

      A cap is a flat headgear, usually with a visor. Caps have crowns that fit very close to the head. They made their first appearance as early as 3200 BC. The origin of the word "cap" comes from the Old French word "chapeau" which means "head covering".

      @reddotsxul8166 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SSM654 you just said female gymnasts are at least 5’3 now you changed it to at most 5’3, but whatever. Besides. Average height for women based on country can range from anywhere from 5’0 to 5’6, and shorter people excel in gymnastics since it’s less weight to move, and no it’s not because of them gradually getting shorter due to the fact they’re gymnasts, it’s them using their natural size to the best of its ability also, to further prove this, sprinters tend to be taller than usual yet they put a lot of strong, rapid force on their legs, shouldn’t they be getting shorter with the amount they of pressure they put on their legs.

    • @loryndabenson2118
      @loryndabenson2118 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Strength training is a great way to minimize bone density loss as we age. Strength training not only encourages muscle growth but strengthening of your tendons and ligaments as density of your bones(however this is a much slower process than muscle building) you don't have train super hard like a body builder just consistently do something challenging but maintainable for YOU and your needs.

    • @loryndabenson2118
      @loryndabenson2118 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chevingladden5146 as long as she is training where is comfortable to her and doing movement appropriate for her level of mobility, her age and arthritis shouldn't pose too much of an issue, however she may have to modify some exercise depending on how she is feeling. I'd also recommend some light to moderate(subjective to her) cardio training two to 3 times a week as well as weights. It would be best to discuss with both her doctor/and a local personal trainer for any specific questions pertaining to her arthritis. Other than that staying moderately active should help you both stay healthy and mobile. For general joint pain regular stretching/massage and balanced diet (very low to zero added sugars, whole foods, organic if you can grow/or afford it) should help take care of excessive inflammation. Plus it's good for your mental health as well to stay active doing something you enjoy. If her pick is weights, good for her. If you like something else like bike riding for example that's excellent if it makes you happy and keeps you healthy too, just remember to add in a little resistance training which could be body weight or resistance bands as well. For your age group the goal isn't necessarily getting super strong, just maintaining your health overall and mobility but if you're able to make any gains that's excellent too. ☺️💜
