I just successfully completed the LED replacement. Here is my writeup on how to do it:
LEDS required: 6x 3528 3.6V White LED (Original LEDs draw 24mA at 3.6V) Can be desoldered from existing LED strips or lamps.
    Procedure:
    - Get bike service manual (~$5 from Ebay)
    - Remove Middle Cowl, remove Fuel Tank side covers, remove rear view mirrors.
Note: To remove the round black clips, hold the outer front ring and push the middle plug from the back, this inner plug should pop out and then you can remove the whole clip.
    - Stand at the front of the bike and pull the bottom of the upper cowl forward to remove it from the frame grommets. The upper cowl will now be loose from the bike. (No need to completely remove it). Unscrew all the dash and remove the speedo.
    - Follow video tutorial.
    Notes:
The tacho dial is really hard to remove. It is press fitted onto a metal shaft. I lifted it slightly and put a flat head screwdriver underneath, twisted and pried it off.
The LEDs are polarity sensitive, put them in the right way or they won’t work. Test with a multimeter or guess and then swap them around if they don’t work.
Once the LEDs are soldered, plug the bare circuit board into the bike and test it. All LEDs should light up. If they don’t you’ve got that one around the wrong way.
Put the white case back on the speedo, plug into the bike and check the LCD screen connection is fine. All LCD segments should display when turned on. Also zero your tacho needle. Put it on lightly, turn on the bike and adjust so it is at zero, then press it on.
    - Reassemble bike.
    Hopefully that helps

The LED is 3528 SMD. I've managed to replace it, the front cowl does NOT need to be removed. All you need to remove are the 4 screws (obvious) that secure the dash and push from the bottom to unclip the dash. Disconnect the data cable then the dash along with the triangluar shape housing will come loose. The rest just follow the video. That's pretty much it. If you still need more information, google online for installation of custom windshield for honda cbr250r, follow the guide up to the part where the dash is being removed. :)
While you are at it, just replace the whole damn LED, there are 12 LED in totals (non ABS) , because those LED failed soon one after another.... IMHO save yourself redoing PITA dash disassembly.

    Thanks a Lot.
Followed every instruction from your video and my Odometer is again back to life :) replacement of 6 white LEDs (model 3528 SMD) did the job for me.
Repairing cost under 200 (+ self labour charges). A new ODO would have costed me about INR 3500.

OK, the LEDs I bought - 3528 - bright white are slightly brighter than the OEM LEDs - but that is ok. The issue is fixed. That's all that matters. Thanks for the video!

Interesting video, are those L.E.D's 1210 or PLCC-2? (or would you be able to use either?) My CBR has dead L.E.D's and have gotten some 1210 Blue to give it a go - it is such a P.I.T.A to get all the fairings off the bike just to get at the 3 screws that hold the speedo on! Crazy.

Search "3528 LED" on ebay and buy a small assembled globe and desolder the individual LEDs from it.

Everybody wants to know what type of circuit board LEDs these are. Can you please post the information we need to get the correct LEDs in the comments please? Thank you. This is apparently a common problem as several of these burn out after 2 years.

    • @richardgraham65
      @richardgraham65 9 ปีที่แล้ว

I have just bought some 1210 LED's, they are about 0.2mm smaller in solder pad width than PLCC-2, I will give this a go in the next few days and let you know if they fit or not - I think 0.2mm can be bridged easily enough with solder, and the lands on the PCB look quite large. The hassle is getting the damn speedo out, you have to virtually remove all the front end fairings and lights just to get at 3 screws that hold the speedo in place
