Not gonna lie when you play a lot of regular community maps the default noises in Portal 2 don't become as scary. They did a good job incorporating other sounds to freak even an experienced player out.
Something you can learn about this. People feel more anxious and scared when they expect something scary or a jump scare but it ends up not happening. This is already so much better than 80% of "Horror" games big companies.
Just can't do it too long. There comes a point in time where your audience starts to feel safe because the horror is all fluff, no jump. Always good to get a mix of jump and lurk

Fun Fact: Some of the boxes, and that noise that sounded like a Predator were probably at taken from the Super 8 teaser, it was a movie released in 2012 and had a playable teaser too.

Ok, played all 3 parts of mod. Jolly, hear my experience: at part 3, closer to the end, there'll be a crash most likely. Just quicksave before going through exit door and when game crashes, restart and quickload from main menu to get to that moment and continue to the epilogue.

It is called psycologic horror, you should check any other horror games that use that mechanic, like the silent hill franchise
