  • The people in the Philippines are suffering from one of the toughest and longest lockdowns in the world. As the government struggles to deal with the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak, the ultra-strict quarantine and social distancing measures which have now stretched to more than half a year, have left the economy on its knees. The move has also left millions of people jobless and hungry. The dire situation has now pushed millions of people to the brink of starvation. Why did the pandemic hit the poorest of poor so hard? With the Philippine economy slipping into its worst recession in decades, can the poor pull themselves out from the crushing poverty? Will their cries for help be heard?

      There is no better qualified president in the Philippines to handle this situation other than Pres. Duterte. The transparency and the care the government provides to the people is excellent. All this problem theyre going through is a result of decades of corrupt politicians and not qualified President that handled Philippines so dont blame Pres. Education isn't a priority here because they want to keep on dumbing down the mass so they will remain at the higher position.

      The gov't estimate that more than 3 million Filipinos will be added to the population. Pre-pandemic, the Philippines was on the way to reducing birth-rate. But that changed overnight with this corona. Both males and females have plenty of time in their hands and all they can think of is having unprotected sex! The sex drive is so strong added with their dietary spices and hot SILI, both are aroused from eating too much spices! Look at the countries with huge problems with population: India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Mexico and the Philippines. Much can be attributed to eating spicy foods.

    I remember when I was in Grade 7, my Teacher told us that his friend went abroad (I can’t remember what country it was) and then his friend went to a store with a lot of dolls , each doll wore a national costume representing every country in the world, they were all beautiful and exciting to see, my teacher's friend was excited about what the Filipino would look like but he couldn't find it, and then he asked the seller about it, but when the seller showed the doll to the one who represents our country---the Philippines, she was wearing a maid dress, and it really broke her heart.
    See how other people in other country sees us.
    So we must work hard for the good of our Country.😞❤️
    Anyway, I was Grade 7 that time right, and now I'm already in Grade 12 and still can't forget that story. It also became my inspiration to study harder, I know I am just one of millions of Filipinos, but if we are united, we can make our country better.

    The COVID-19 pandemic has tremendously changed various people's day-to-day lifestyle in general. The Philippines, a country with a population of over a hundred million people, is the setting for this paper. At first sight, it appears to have beautiful infrastructure and tourist destinations. However, if you look closer, you'll notice that many of the people you see are poor and some may be even begging in front of businesses, under bridges, or on the streets, and this social issue has already happened before the pandemic, how much more during the lockdown. The lockdown in 2020 caused a drastic change in the economy. Multiple businesses and workplaces went into bankruptcy which caused the people to be unemployed. Even people who belong in the high and middle class were struggling in coping up with this problem, how much more with the people who belong in the poverty line.
    Elena and Leia’s story was really heartbreaking because it clearly shows how they have to battle multiple dilemmas in order to survive. The video tells the audience how people in the poverty line have to break quarantine guidelines and protocols in order to remain alive. Moreover it also tells how risky it is for the people who live in slums since it is very packed and the living conditions are faulty. Elena and Leia eventually have to collect leftover goods in order to feed something for their family. There was even a time that their family had to eat rice and salt since their mother cannot already provide anything.
    The video that was assigned for us to watch was really heartbreaking and difficult to watch. It opened my eyes and I was grateful that this activity made me realize things and shouldn’t be blinded by any certain issues in the society that didn’t merely affect me. As someone who is privileged enough, I should not even complain a slightest bit for not having a meal that I am not craving for, nor even complain about gaining six kilos during the lockdown. The government officials, people in the higher and middle class should realize the harmful things that are happening in the society, and shouldn’t be blinded by their comfort.

In the country side of the Philippines people are really abundant in terms of food, vegetables and fruits since Philippines are rich in Agriculture. Give more fund on Agrifarm this is what we need. • @silentboomber
      @silentboomber 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Let me share with u one sad fact.... It's nothing to do with neither Mother land nor agrifarm....
      In this world, food is more than enough.... Just imagine, a poor country (low technology based), those rich mans or corrupted government, they have their wants (electric or electronic devices, luxury goods, luxury foods, luxury car or other high tech porducts), how are their going to have these?
      They have only land, and poor pity farmer. Hence, those land owner (government officer and their relative, those rich men who bride the government, those rulers of the country), they order the farmer to work for them, either they farm the grain or they farm some cash Corps (this is the reason why there is not enough food to feed the whole world), then they sell it to those high tech countries with low price (there are so many low tech based countries can sell the food but there are only few high tech countries can produce high tech products, hence high tech country have the bargain power) in order to exchange those high tech products
      This is the reason why the people on the earth is still starving...the land, and the farmer, should be able to produce enough food to everyone...

      About the covid 19 in the Philippines. The number 1 reason is because of overpopulation and followed up by poverty and next is the government and the people and then others. I'm not solely blaming this administration but also the previous administrations. Metro Manila is too densely populated or overpopulated. I mean Metro Manila alone has 145k+ cases and almost 2.3k deaths and also the other cases from other regions came from Metro Manila. Just imagine if there is no Metro Manila maybe the cases today is around 80k or even lower. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that Metro Manila should not be part of Philippines, I'm not discriminating on them. What I'm saying the rants, the complains and the critics (not generalizing all) of the government are clearly biased and others are just going with the flow. It is creating a diversity among us like DDS, dilawans, anti and pro duterte/government/Marcos/Liberal Party/Rev Gov and others and I don't want this diversity to go on. I mean we are a developing country although Malaysia and Vietnam are developed compared to us in terms of infrastructures/equipments. Philippines is not Vietnam and Vietnam is not Philippines. It's not like the government and other government organizations like DOH are perfect. It's unfair to solely blame this administration. I'm not saying the government is not incompetent, we can clearly see that the sense of direction is confusing. Yes they were very confident on the early stages but that doesn't mean they can't change, if you compare their response from the January to the present, they changed. The people who I blame are those who didn't try their best to fix poverty, overpopulation, people who are not following the rules, incompetency of the people and government, upgrading our infrastructures/equipments, the uneducated and others especially the slacktivist. Church is also to blame, they are in the way in preventing birth control. Also not all has national ID system so it's very hard to hand help. I think, the government did a fine job based that we are more undeveloped country compared to our neighbors, lots of incompetent leaders and officials, overpopulation, poverty. I believe that even if we have close our borders to Wuhan early or close our borders to China, we will still have an outbreak, the safest is close our borders to every country which is not a strategic move. Also believe no matter what adminstration there will still be an outbreak at the end. At the end of this there will be people who can't accept this, it's up to yourselves if you guys will change or not.

      I mean look at celebrities, businessmen, or even those people around you. Do your relatives with fewer kids fare better than those with say 7 to 13 kids?

      @Azi ra Your right we can never institute that we are in control of our lives in daily occasion due to factors that are inherited, the circumstances that are built and the environment that we live... I think the government should radically change its systems first and promote job opportunities that can stimulate the economy... But people also need to not rely on the government for food and other necessities and be comfortable that food is always available. I hate to admit it but charities is a liability since people will just eat free food rather than local foods that has pricetags thus businesses in those communities will not prosper or grow over time. To stimulate economic growth, people should create bank accounts so that they can borrow money for wise investments like a business or mortgages and not products that are useless and a liability like fancy clothes and stuff like that. But poor people has adapted to live below their means so i am confident that they will value money more so than the average person. All in all, the government should change how they can help people by lending them money in a formal matter and not giving relief goods left and right(except for disasters) and people should get jobs like manual labor or other services and make a medium sized business rather than small scale(like tindahans).

      @@kevinclydeeguia2543But there are ways to loan from the government(Pag-ibig for example). Unfortunately, not everyone is eligible and/or well aware of the process. I agree with changing the system, opportunities should be opened up rather than giving charity to the poort however, the government focuses on how to get more tax from the people rather than build a system for the better. Our officials are stealing from us, everyone knows that as they are getting bolder and bolder in doing so.

    "Why did the pandemic hit poorest of the poor so hard?"
    Well almost all of the poorest of the poor here earn daily. Selling candies and cigarettes on the streets, selling food on carts, selling services like house cleaning and car washing. The moment the lock down was implemented all of those stopped. And the fact that the poorest of the poor averages around 5 children per family? And the middle class averages around 2?

    I was able to help a Phillipine woman i had gotten to know on Facebook/Messenger. She lives in a hurricane damaged house she inherited from her grandmother, rescuing cats and dogs. She is in her 20's but went deaf from starving for over a week while in high school. Before Covid lockdown she could get jobs but now takes care of a young niece because both parents got covid19. I had her find a wholesale source for rice for minimum purchases and fronted her the the money to buy her first order. She is able to sell to her neighborhood, keep up with new orders and use her profits to pay her bills and expenses.

      @Nicole Laygan YES, literally that is the point of having public schools.
      1987 constitution mandates it and with Republic Act 6655, they extended FREE public schooling up to HIGH SCHOOL.
      It is the PARENTS who intentionally don't let their kids go to school so they can work and beg and steal. The same irresponsible parents who like to have more kids than they can feed in the hopes one or more of those kids gets their hands on some money and/or work and then the parents have their "retirement plan".

      It is a bit exagerrated IMHO. Like 16 thousand peso water bill? Did they leave the tap running 24x7? Then saying that the govt cash assistance is just 4 days of their previous salary, pegging their previous salary to 1500 a day (which is a lot and they shouldn't be poor if they stuck to 1 or 2 kids). Our neighbor takes home a mere 500 pesos a day as he is a minimum wage earner. But his kids are in school and they do get by.

      If only the government can implement a one-child policy, but we know it will not happen. Philippines is a catholic country and that will be against the preaching of the church. It depends now on the youth if they want a change or will still glorify being poor.

      I think the priority should not be to make the poor adjust but to make their living conditions better. Although I agree that having children for the sole purpose of them being the provider is bad, they wouldn't need to think that way if they had a stable income, proper housing, and basic needs met. Implementing a strict law to control the poor instead of helping them wouldn't help our country.

    • @hyunniejangmi8408
      @hyunniejangmi8408 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That would be far-fetched. The government has no willingness to stabilize the lives of every Filipino. Philippines is like a battleground for the survival of the fittest. You can feel this through no mimimum standard of salary, security of tenure (mostly ojt and volunteers), etc. This country has long been prioritize businessmen and private sector.
