Cave crickets are why I save my tunnel exploring for the winter. I can’t handle feeling them dropping down on me as I run. Not to mention the humidity. Yeeeesh
Try camping further north in NY! Tahawus, also known as the village of Adirondac, is an abandoned mining town located in the Adirondack Mountains in New York. It was originally developed in the 19th century for iron mining. Today, it's a ghost town with remnants of its past, offering a glimpse into the region's history amid the surrounding natural beauty of the High Peaks.
If you ever come to Virginia, you may spend a few months just going through the Blue Ridge and Appalachian mountains. There are many mountains and trails to explore and camp!!!!
I have only spend a day driving/hiking around Skyline through Shenandoah... was so gorgeous! 😍😍 Very true, I should really spend more time there... probably some very fun adventures to be had 🏕️ Thanks for the tip and appreciate you watching!!
Thanks Nathan, definitely loving exploring and camping in these cool places and hoping to inspire others to do the same... this world has so much for us to explore & appreciate!
If you need a really cool hike in Vermont look up the old marple quarry hike in Dorset Vermont! It's so amazing there. Also hackstack mountain is a beautiful hike
Yes ..... I was laughing so hard watching you brave the crickets. They have always been bad. I was wondering if you found the room with the hole in the floor? Great episode!!! Keep up the great content.
love your stuff and can't wait for your channel to blow up, if you ever end up in MN I would highly recommend the Cramer railroad tunnel or wawatosa/eagle island in Lake minnetonka
Another cool and sneaky video Wes Wherever, well done. I may be biased being a native, but Michigan would offer you a lot of interesting spots to camp, the Au Sable River scenic byway, the Cut River bridge on U.S. 2 in the UP., and also Mackinac Island to name a few.

Camp Bluefield! I knew it immediately in the into. I camped in a bunker in a blizzard for fun one year, been here many times. We usually come in from the upper road. So cool to see you there!
Thanks bro!! Still in shock... feels like I had 500 just yesterday! Thanks for supporting me every step of the way 👊 Glad you've been enjoying the content
Omggggg I was holding my breath as you were running past the crickets 😂😫 you’re so brave, cuz I cannnnnot move forward if I saw all of those bugs. Great outro ! I can’t wait for the next adventure!1
We live “vicariously” through your adventures, perhaps today needed a warning label. I now have ptsd and anxiety “vicariously” because of the claustrophobic tunnels and the invisible bears that were everywhere. But you picked a cool camp spot and that period correct meal was awesome to add in there. Happy trails!
I will have to keep that in mind - I suppose warnings for claustrophobia and insects would have really applied here! And yeah bears are not fun to have to worry about either 🐻 Thanks again for watching Erik, glad you enjoyed this one!!
You should try to kayak and camp on Fort Carroll in Baltimore. It is right next to where the Francis Scott Key bridge stood. Would make for an interesting video if you actually managed to get on it.
Jiminy crickets 🦗 looked like little Aliens to me ! I’m live in CT now i’m excited to see where you go in CT. I was gonna mention to you. There’s an old fort at the end of Napatree point in watch hill RI Pretty neat little area used to have some tunnels you could access. Haven’t been out there lately. You could walk or you could kayak there . Great video 👍😎🐆🐆
Yeah they were really something else!! I am actually in the Providence area now, but I think I see the fort you're talking about 🔎 Still less than an hour away. Seems like it would be a really cool spot to camp & fish at! Only question would be where to leave my van parked at overnight 🤔 Thanks again for watching, Cheetah!! 🐆
I know this is weird but I would need something as *_loud_* as your bright yellow air mattress to be covered up if I were to sleep on it. Not that I can literally hear and feel yellow, I don't have synesthesia, but... wow! That is _loud!!_
There is awesome abandoned hotel/resort in upstate new york i think you should check out and try and camp in, its from the 60s or 70s really interesting place
Woot!! 🎉 Still in shock, feels like I had less than 500 just yesterday 🤯 Thanks for helping make it happen, Nick! Glad you have been enjoying the adventures
You know I keep telling myself that I should pick some up, but haven't yet. Very foolish, I know. I will make sure I pick some up before the next trip 👍 Thanks for reminding me!

Hi, Wes. I like your videos and appreciate you going to these places but I really hope you bring/carry some type of protection. There are very bad people out there that could easily inhabit some of these places and they wouldn’t think twice about hurting someone. Be safe.
Thanks Kris, I have been meaning to pick up some bear spray... kinda foolish that I haven't yet, but I will make sure to do so before the next trip 👍 Also plan to pick up a firearm when I am back in my home state. Can never be too safe!
Hahaha yeah that's usually the goal, but not always easy when camping!! Thanks again for your idea about the 1-10 system... hope you and your girl enjoyed this one!
oOo I couldn't have went any further into that 1st tunnel w. all those crickets! Yikes. This one was pretty scary to me.. you are brave! - especially solo.
Just some natural hand sanitizer 😉 Sometimes if I have a lot of cleaning to do I'll bring some food surface-safe disinfectant (Seventh Generation). I'll keep em coming... thanks for watching!!
You should camp in the Nicholson bridge only sketchy part is it may still be an active railway. Would be cool since you’ve already done the Delaware River viaduct
If you trust your kayak enough to take it out into the ocean for a short trip in Gloucester mass there’s a nice island with two lighthouses on it close to shore. That’s a fun trip. Nice vid.
Love that place, been there many times. Easier hiking in from the western entrance imo but there's a cool former NIKE radar site on the side you entered from. Best to go in the winter when the cave crickets and big spiders aren't covering all the walls, mud in the tunnels is much firmer, and you can find the other structures much easier with the lack of foliage.
Yuck, all those crickets! I don't think I could get past those, especially since they were falling on you. If they stayed put and minded their own business I might have been ok. lol Great campout, thanks for sharing. :) :)
I know!! I really had to mentally prepare myself to go past all of them with their "jumpiness"! Thanks for watching again Jacqueline, so glad you have been enjoying the adventures :)
That was the creepiest video you have made the crickets was a no no you running through them was enough gives me the shivers thinking about it. Lol you are camping in some great locations but way to many friends around. Stay safe see you on the next horror video. Michael UK
I hope it never happens but i could see Wes ending up on one of those Scariest Camping Encounters videos at some point with these locations. Love the videos though stay safe!
Hahaha I know... hate to say it, but something really scary is probably bound to happen eventually. Good to be mentally prepared for it I guess... and hey, it'll be some content! Thanks for watching, Jonathan!!
An alcohol stove is nearly as fast and doesn't require disposable canisters. If you've never camped in the Okefenokee Swamp, you should. It's not stealthy, but it is very remote and untamed. I counted nine alligators when I was there in the Spring, and I didn't see another human being for two solid days. Floyd's Island is reasonably accessible and a great place to explore.
Thanks for the tip, I will have to look into alcohol stoves. I have seen a video from PaddleTV in the swamp before... looked uniquely beautiful! I am thinking about roadtripping through the south over the winter, so you may see me camping with the alligators then 😉 Thanks for watching!!
hey man in your last video you said you where on your way to new england, i was curious where you where planning on going? i live in Massachusetts and theres a couple really cool places near me i could suggest for some overnighters
I just did an adventure in CT, currently in RI at the moment... will definitely be in MA next 😉 Would be really grateful to hear any suggestions, much better to take advice from locals than to try and figure it out on my own!
@@WesWherevera really really cool place thats local to me that all the locals from surrounding towns love is strathmore paper mill in russell massachusetts, old abandoned paper mill and the compound is huge with tons and tons of buildings, obviously its all abandoned. my 2nd favorite spot, less local is the ashintully mansion ruins, it was a giant mansion built way back that caught fire and a lot of the above ground house was burnt down but theres still so many rooms and tunnels and stuff underground and the giant pillars are still standing.
Spooky!! 😬 I may have to check it out on my way back down from Maine, as I am only following the southern coastline of CT currently. Thanks for the tip, Rick!
Definitly come up to maine!! gets fridgid in the winter but builtiful this time of year especially acadia national park though pretty touristy. if you go even more north past bangor your pretty much in pure wilderness with very little civilization.
Good video. With all that spray paint in enclosed spaces I wonder if the “artists” protected themselves from the solvents which are very dangerous if you don’t provide “adequate ventilation” (check out what happened to Bill Bowerman years after he developed Nike shoes). Another great video. On to the next one!
Yes dude thats one sketchy ass tunnel, I would not be going down that, my immediate thought is what if someone blocks the other end etc... Wonder what the tunnels were for? Cool camp keep it up, 10k subs lets go!
Really had to push through the creepiness to make it happen 😅 The tunnels allowed the soldiers to travel around the shooting range without being hit by stray bullets. They could have used some of your candles though, because it got super dark in there! Thanks man, I am still in shock about hitting 1k, let alone 10!! Appreciate you watching and supporting 😊😊
Looked like your route won't really go near my suggestions. but here there are anyway. if you were to go through North Dakota instead of South Dakota. Mandan Sign in the town of Mandan ND, the Giant Holstein Cow in New Salem ND, the Giant Buffalo in Jamestown ND might be kinda cold when you get there though! Good vids Wes Keep it up!
IDEA: Go to Holy Land USA Waterbury, Connecticut! It is beautiful and abandoned there. IF not then I would say Tuxis Island, Madison CT- it is a bird sanctuary and a 15 minute kayak ride from shore! ENJOY! let me know if you would like any more info or ideas for Connecticut! :)
Thanks Lorenzo, those sound like really cool ideas!! Do you happen to know of anywhere in RI? I just recently crossed the border and I'm around the Providence area at the moment. I will definitely bookmark the places you suggested for when I am back in CT though, such a beautiful state!
@@WesWherever I am not too familiar with RI, but I did have friends that went to Roger Williams in Bristol RI. There is a pretty cool bridge called Mt Hope, small islands, Prudence Island, Hog Island, gould island, and an arboretum in bristol. I just saw most of these using google maps, but they seem lit.
@@WesWherever I camped in Stokes Forest with bears in a old canvas tent way back in the 1970s, two girls were killed the week before camping there, we did not find out till we got there, we kept a first going all night and were fine.
I do plan to check out Vermont!! I am totally open to any suggestions you may have 🏕️ Better to take advice from a local than try and figure it all out on my own
@@WesWherever lake Champlain has so many small beautiful islands! As well as the northeast kingdom brings an abundance of small lakes with great camping spots!! Lots of old war bases ect!! Hope you make your way to check it out I’m always here for opinions 😉
Those zebra/cave crickets are horrific, they're nearly blind and almost seems they always hop directly at you. Our basement was full of hundreds if not more when we first got the house. They love damp/dark.
I know you probable have a plan but I live in Portland Maine and and we have a ton of abandoned civil war to WW2 forts and bunkers on the Islands in Casco Bay that you can explore. Come up and Ill show you around. Love your content.
This is literally the beginning of every found footage horror movie

Yeah the crickets+humidity are no joke! Are they dormant during the winter? That's really good to know, if so 👍

Maybe check out Dudleytown in CT?
Spooky!! 😬 I may have to check it out on my way back down from Maine, as I am only following the southern coastline of CT currently. Thanks for the tip, Rick!
I see someone is a fan of notice studios ;)
Definitly come up to maine!! gets fridgid in the winter but builtiful this time of year especially acadia national park though pretty touristy. if you go even more north past bangor your pretty much in pure wilderness with very little civilization.
I can't wait for Maine! 😍 I should be there pretty soon 👍👍
Good video. With all that spray paint in enclosed spaces I wonder if the “artists” protected themselves from the solvents which are very dangerous if you don’t provide “adequate ventilation” (check out what happened to Bill Bowerman years after he developed Nike shoes). Another great video. On to the next one!
Very good consideration!! Thanks for watching, glad you are enjoying the adventures 🏕️
I like your content.
Appreciate that Blake, keep up the good work yourself! 🎬💪
You can also rate the food!!
Looked like your route won't really go near my suggestions. but here there are anyway.
if you were to go through North Dakota instead of South Dakota.
Mandan Sign in the town of Mandan ND,
the Giant Holstein Cow in New Salem ND,
the Giant Buffalo in Jamestown ND
might be kinda cold when you get there though!
Is this the Tweed Tunnels? We loved this spot also except for the tunnel of bugs !
It is! So cool, I will check out your video!! Yeah the crickets are no joke 🦗
All safe from the bugs in that tent, but would not be comfortable sleeping in there, you are brave
Yeah it wouldn't have stopped a bear 😬 Glad it worked out though... thanks again for watching, Betty!!
@@WesWherever I camped in Stokes Forest with bears in a old canvas tent way back in the 1970s, two girls were killed the week before camping there, we did not find out till we got there, we kept a first going all night and were fine.
Come to Vermont while your in New England I could give you 100 spots you’d love
I do plan to check out Vermont!! I am totally open to any suggestions you may have 🏕️ Better to take advice from a local than try and figure it all out on my own
@@WesWherever lake Champlain has so many small beautiful islands! As well as the northeast kingdom brings an abundance of small lakes with great camping spots!! Lots of old war bases ect!! Hope you make your way to check it out I’m always here for opinions 😉
Sounds like Vermont has so much to check out... you gave me some cool ideas to look into, really appreciate it!!
10k subs in no time, I knew it, congrats man! Next guess, 17,5k in 2 weeks. :)
Appreciate that again, good sir 😉 Keep the predictions coming, I think you're helping manifest them hahaha
Man, you really have to be alright with bugs and stuff to camp in some of the places you’ve been lol
I been here this in rockland
I love the outdoors and evrything you do but the bugs are a no for me!!
Yeah they were really something else... feel like this experience really empowered me lol
A bit of water in your pan before the food will distribute the heat through the pan more evenly.
Appreciate that man, I will have to see!! I have some islands eyed up for Maine - the coast up there looks phenomenal!
Local legend is that those tunnels are haunted. 😮
Try Chisholm Park in Brooklyn
Good tip, if I head back to the city I will look into that!! That whole Jamaica Bay area looks really cool to explore
I’m always amazed how much milk you use on your cereal 😂
Hahaha I dig a generous milk to cereal ratio 😋 More protein and flavor!
You forgot to say "Goooooood night."
Goooooood night. There, I said it!! 😉
Are you by the Catskill mountains by chance?
