He just never applied it. Example the "Screening" action where he screens awful. That's a fixable thing, that's a little touch thing. That's something he could have worked on and been better at but he screens like he's going into a duffle bag and it's all for show and not an actual move. I get the feeling that wisemen doesn't care. And it shows.
GSW has a short window to compete. And they can't play James Wiseman due to his flaws as shown in the video (ie. bad situation awareness on D, and on office, does not set good picks etc...) .
@@HKim0072I don't think that portfolio matters when ur in the NBA. He was an average player during his NBA career, no matter if he played great in his college/high school days.
@@Icriticrandomthings Totally stupid comment. Joe Smith played against Rasheed and Stackhouse at UNC and the good Duke team with Grant Hill. Wake Forest, Virginia and George Tech were all good teams back then. Wiseman basically played zero games in college and hasn't proven he can play against his own peers much less NBA players.
Yes.. AND, +/- has a lot to do with who you are playing with as well. I think his growth and development looks far better in San Antonio as opposed to Golden State with a coach who is NOT a developmental coach or organization. His injuries also certainly didn’t help. I would be curious what differences were seen from Summer league after having half a season of consistent playing time going into a healthy offseason.
This isn't just about Kerr not being a developmental coach. Look at Monte Williams. He's not playing him either. So far Wiseman is their 3rd string big. You see?? This is isn't a Kerr thing. This is Wiseman thing.
You were too polite to say this, but I think Wiseman missing defensive assignments is a low BBIQ issue and I'm not sure how fixable that is. When he understands what's going on he's a great defender, so he has athleticism in spades. Jokic is the opposite, low athleticism high BBIQ. (LeBron is of course high in both.) The NBA is a much more cerebral game than college basketball by a huge margin and it's evolving all the time, sometimes you're just not smart enough to keep up no matter how hard you study game film or whatever.
Some things are simple though and not really BBIQ dependent. Like calling switch in the clip with Killian. Coaches just gotta drill the basics over and over. Get on his ass anytime he doesn't call a switch or when he stops playing before the play is over and loses his man. None of that takes understanding of the game really. Call switch. Play till you hear a whistle or someone makes a basket.
@@DyersEve726 Calling "switch" doesn't show up on Sportscenter. Wiseman plays as if he only cares about being on highlight clips and not actual winning. Terrible screen setting, terrible boxing out, terrible defense. Too bad for him he has brick hands so isn't actually a good roll man for alley-oops. He thinks he's a taller KD, but he's way too slow and doesn't have the handles or shooting. The problem is between the ears for Wiseman. He thinks he's something that he's not.
This pick and eventual trade is why I think Bob Myers "quit" along with a bunch of other bad picks (Manion,Evans) and Poole extension. But back to Wiseman, he was always a low IQ player since his college days. You either know how to play or you don't. And Wiseman doesn't have it.
1:43 wiseman played correctly he may not have communicated to the player in front of vuc to pick up the ball. He stayed low on the big to where if a shot is taken he can box out. Vuc is clearly in position to grab an offensive rebound, lob, all around second chance point if wiseman shoots out to the corner. That was the correct move maybe no communication to his teammate to pick up the wing as he is back in position to pick up the big
I think there's a big problem when young and inexperienced players somehow end up as high lottery picks on legit championship contenders. It doesn't happen very often, but one other massive bust at 2nd overall was Darko, who I legit believe could have been a great player if he had gotten drafted onto a trash team and given time to develop instead of riding the bench. He was 18, homesick, and an overnight millionaire with almost zero responsibility. Compare Darko and Wiseman that to Tim Duncan, who had just spent 4 years in college before getting drafted onto a contender. Dude was mature and developed enough to contender as a rookie.
Two years ago, I followed Jared Goff to the Lions. I'm a big Jared Goff fan. The reception he got was insanely asinine. I went on Detroit media constantly defending him. The worst show was like this imbecile. Called Throw the Ball Jared, it purported to show cogent analysis of particular plays. Instead, it showed the host couldn't see the entire context, often missing how close and fast defensive linemen were on Jared. 6'5 guys are much closer to the QB than fans looking down on plays understand. I was beyond vindicated. Now, I'm a Lions fan, but I liked them right from the beginning. The coach impressed me, for one. James is different. Jared had a track record. But James reminds me of Robert Parrish, who the Warriors gave up on. How did RP turn out? The biggest issue is fouling. Big men often begin their careers constantly getting called for fouls. RP did. If they look a little gangly, it's worse. They become too focused on not fouling. It can take time to overcome this problem. I don't know if James can, but I see real potential that a good coach could develop. He's too focused on his movement. It's slowing him down. It's not instinctive. I like the Pistons. I think he did fine given the team play which was awful. So we will see. But please forget about the plus minus analysis. It's a statistical joke. Read up on it or take baby statistics to understand how ridiculous the grouping is. Use your eyes and brain.
What a great breakdown. Never believed Wiseman was a good NBA player. Physically gifted and great high school player does not mean they can transition to the NBA, His basketball IQ is below average, horrible spacing and his biggest weakness is his constant BALL WATCHING!!! He is only able to play two on two or iso basketball.
Time is running out for James Wisman, he is going into year 4 and still seems mostly clueless about what to do on defence despite being big, strong and agile. He just got cooked by Jabari Smith Jr a player who just finished his rookie season in summer league and at this point it will be considered a minor victory if he can have a career like Javale McGee. The biggest problem is he still thinks he can be a star in this league.
I wish the Warriors had Jalen Duren instead with the team we have now .. 2024 champs for sure Curry Thompson Wiggins Draymond Looney To start of the 2nd unit Chris Paul has been legendary with elevating his bigs game and with guys that are athletic .. So Kuminga Duren Tracye Jackson Davis would benefit plus Moses GP & Brandin would be deadly
Feel so bad for the guy. I feel like most of these issues would have been addressed had he just played more in college. 3 games in college isn't even enough to get into the g league imho... unless you're Lebron James or Kobe Bryant.. Like, it's not like he was drafted straight out of high school. He went to college, but just didn't play 🤦♂️
The warriors depth back in 2022 season are the people who left next season. The whole roster got dismantled just because of Poole wanting to get the 💰, then he cant live up to it.
He's too slow to be anywhere BUT a 5. The problem is that he thinks he's a wing player and acts like one, but he's got nowhere near the actual quickness, shooting, or dribbling.
its' the NBA first round guys like Wiseman has 4 years before you have to pick him their 5th year option. if they're not going to extend him why play him over other guys like Duren?
The not so funny thing about James Weizmann is that his problem is both an easy fix, and an impossible task at the same time. Mr Weizmann has problem with his motor. He has a problem with his engine. He has a problem with his energy level and degree of effort output. That is something that's both fixable and impossible to change, depending on the individual.
Wiseman has all of the physical tools. He can run the floor and shoot. But he just doesn’t know how to play the game. When he’s on the floor the opposing team gets too many easy baskets.
I hoped Wiseman would have been a good fit for the Warriors, but it does seem like his play style might not have been a good fit. Plus, being injured more than half the time he was with them didn’t help anything. #Dubs 👊🏽
The Dubs value experience and bball smarts in their rotation players. Wiseman is too inexperienced to have been able to succeed on the Warriors. Add in the fact that he missed valuable time with injuries and his developmental was compromised significantly. Keep in mind also that last season the team was in chaos due to Green assaulting Poole, effecting team chemistry a fan the culture that had existed before. Not ideal for molding young players.
4:01 to be fair that wasn't a bad pass more than a person with awful hands. Because they could have grab and went straight up with that if they could catch one handed. if you call for the pass like that super annoying be ready for the pass. He wasn't. That guy needs to get in the lab and work on catching 1 handed. Yes the pass could have been better but for a professional basketball player not in high school that was a ok pass.
I never understood this pick or his hype. The man played 3 college games and was injured his senior yr in hs. Wtf did the warriors expect?? He screamed 5 yr experiment, at least. Drafting that high pick the best player ( melo or Halliburton would be good for them).
I think Wiseman for Bey was a fair trade. Bey was looking to get paid 20mil a season while been inconsistent on offense and below average defensively. Wiseman has potential to be good and arrives when Bagley was hurt
Maybe the Sixers should, instead of REBUILDING, start RE- "PROCESS"ING. It's not where a team picks; it's WHO is doing the PICKING. (TROY WEAVER > HAVING #1 PICK) #tankingain'tenuf

That's something he could have worked on and been better at but he screens like he's going into a duffle bag and it's all for show and not an actual move. I get the feeling that wisemen doesn't care. And it shows.
if he wasn't a high pick he might be out of the league with the way he plays
Facts bro
great video. always wondered why GSW gave up on him so quickly.
GSW has a short window to compete. And they can't play James Wiseman due to his flaws as shown in the video (ie. bad situation awareness on D, and on office, does not set good picks etc...) .
Keep making content. Good work.
This kid will be okay.
Joe Smith spent a career being just okay.
Joe Smith was a 1st team All American at Maryland in his Sophomore year.
Nice work🎉
Great video!
He’s 22. Give this guy some time.
Sounds like you gotta use your eyes and see hes bad at every aspect of sport
What a great breakdown. Never believed Wiseman was a good NBA player. Physically gifted and great high school player does not mean they can transition to the NBA, His basketball IQ is below average, horrible spacing and his biggest weakness is his constant BALL WATCHING!!! He is only able to play two on two or iso basketball.
Killian Hayes, that dude is a solid bust!... he's been playing too long for the Pistons and until now, just minimal improvement... 🤦♂️🤣🤦♂️
He better get it together or he’ll find himself left behind.
or droppinmg out of the league altogether
Wiseman will be ok trust me
lol no tf he won't
@karycam
Nah.
Great video
Good analysis, but let me summarize succinctly why the #2 overall pick was traded to Detroit - James has a low bball IQ, Wiseman isn't very wise.
You can't have a small coaches teach him to be a big men you need a true big to teach him to play big.
Warriors should have just drafted lamelo due to their small ball system and fast phase of play
I wish the Warriors had Jalen Duren instead with the team we have now .. 2024 champs for sure
Curry Thompson Wiggins Draymond Looney
To start of the 2nd unit Chris Paul has been legendary with elevating his bigs game and with guys that are athletic .. So Kuminga Duren Tracye Jackson Davis would benefit plus Moses GP & Brandin would be deadly
Do a piece on Thon Maker!
I saw him in one of his first games, his basketball iq seemed low, but hoped he would figure it out... what never happened
Great video 👏 He’s fun and frustrating to watch. Reminds me of the hope I had with Drummond 😂
Any Warriors fan could have told you.
Wiseman's defense reminds me of Christian Wood's defense, and that's not a good thing.
Warriors should have drafted Lamelo
The warriors depth back in 2022 season are the people who left next season. The whole roster got dismantled just because of Poole wanting to get the 💰, then he cant live up to it.
I just don’t think wiseman is a 5. They should give him some run on the perimeter
Haven't heard that one before
He's too slow to be anywhere BUT a 5.
Jalen Duren is combination of Antonio McDyess and Orlando Woolridge .
I think Wiseman is an offensive minded player that wants to score all the time. Hope he improves in defense.
cab you say bust
Add in the fact that he missed valuable time with injuries and his developmental was compromised
significantly.
Killian is bad but he’s an excellent passer. Don’t blame him for Wiseman’s failings
Hayes is the worst basketball player in the nba
@@jaymiller4999 yes troll, I acknowledged he’s bad. He still passes well though. Always has, even on a team lacking a consistent offence.

Wiseman has amazing pure talent. But his basketball iq is horrible. He is a center who wants to play as a small forward.
I think Wiseman for Bey was a fair trade. Bey was looking to get paid 20mil a season while been inconsistent on offense and below average defensively. Wiseman has potential to be good and arrives when Bagley was hurt
Fuck that, only one of the two belongs in the NBA. Weaver is the worst GM out of 30 and should have already been fired.
Monty Williams will overuses his top players. He wear players down and will eventually shorten their careers
please do a video about killian hayes and why he's ass
QUESTION THE NORMS. RISE ABOVE.
he had a fantastic team to learn from and he learned nothing , NEXT !
He's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, as the Brits would say. Plus I don't believe he has a burning desire to learn
He pulled a Marvin bagley
It s crazy ppl tell me about stats ,but I always am like you gotta watch the game.. he just was loss
Maybe the Sixers should, instead of REBUILDING, start RE- "PROCESS"ING.
It's not where a team picks; it's WHO is doing the PICKING. (TROY WEAVER > HAVING #1 PICK)
#tankingain'tenuf
Weaver is a moron and arguably the worst GM in the NBA.
He called Dejounte Jamal lol
Someone tell him HE NEEDS TO STOP CROUCHING he's getting little like 5'10😢
Wiseman is a AAU player
Trade for Bey not aging well.
Bey wanted the bag 💰 and is not a good defender and inconsistent. Wiseman has potential and showing improvement.
Bro was literally paying with 7 man lineups most of the time in Detroit and they were actively tanking 😂😂😂 he’s gonna be fine with next season
Yeah he wasn’t good in gs either pistons need to stop getting these players thinking they can fix them and focus on duren
@@greenecarlos93 wiseman had multiple good games with the pistons. Him and Duren can literally coexist, they both under 25 and play completely different. Duren is a traditional 5 while wiseman is more of a 4 when they both played together they showed flashes
@@keilinthedbzfan u high we had zero rim protection outside of duren pistons fans are delusional that’s why we never have a competitive roster cuz niggas rather use players who show flashes rather than guys who can produce consistently
Come on, wiseman is too offensively focused, you can’t rely on his rebound and defense. That’s a big problem to co-exist with duren. Duren is too young and talented to just feed ball to Wismen
@@chelsea7xhf his defense and rebounding were much improved with Detroit if you watched the games. How is subpar rebounding and defense a problem to pair with Duren if those are durens biggest strengths?😂 Wiseman was too focused on getting buckets this season but that won’t be the case next year. Right now as it stands Duren can’t hold a candle to wise offensively and when they played together it would have had better results with NBA level guards not Killian Hayes and Rodney mcgruder
The fact is, only casuals thought he would be good.
He shouldn't have even been a top 20 pick.
I believe in Wiseman. I think he can improve. Ive seen improvement. Detroit getting the chip
Its not fair to compare his +- on Detroit the whole team is minus
A player that should have stayed in college to develop.
remember the 2 fingers lamelo ball flashed at the draft he is now laughing all the way to the bank
hell be out the league in 4 years
No bag 💼
Maybe he is both weak relatively and afraid of getting re-injured
And a little mentally weak.
So he hasnt improved at all
guy is super soft unfortunately. He fits right in w the celtics

It MAY be the most CHALLENGING FACET OF THE GAME, OFFENSIVELY.
Fans PREFER seeing BALL MOVEMENT, generally speaking. Who doesn't? I do.
But I understand the REALITY of the PLAYOFFS.

With that, after 4 games, there are VERY FEW SECRETS LEFT.
