Very encouraging to see someone who is a beginner like me, facing similar challenges. The first time I skated was for about 5 minutes in my kitchen. I felt fairly confident. I was wobbly but I could get the movement for a few seconds at a time. As I was stopping for the last time, one of my feet kept going forward and I fell backward and onto my arm/wrist. I knocked the wind out of myself and my hand went numb. I felt sick to my stomach and needed help getting my boots off. I’d never broken/sprained/fractured anything, so I didn’t know what that would feel like. Luckily, I still don’t. However, I was unable to use my hand normally for about 3 weeks. I’ve tried skating twice since, outside both times. I can’t even stand up in my skates without help. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. It’s frustrating, but I’m so determined to learn. When I was researching on TH-cam and trying to find beginners, I saw so many people just “get it” right away. I felt you voice a lot of the same concerns in this video and that is comforting to know I’m not alone.
It’s really lovely to also hear from someone who is beginning their skating journey, I also found myself watching vlogs of people who just put on skates and where full of confidence. Every time I put them on I feel as nervous as I was on the first day, hopefully in time we will both see big improvements ☺️ thanks for watching!
BUY AND WEAR WRISTGUARDS I’M BEGGING YOU There’s a really good queer girl straight skates vid where she vlogs teaching a friend to rollerskate which has some great tips if you haven’t seen it already, and try improving your balance and core strength through stuff like yoga off skates, it’ll help your balance on skates. Good luck!!
You're just the same as me. I'm always so scared to try things if it involves falling or such. I just bought skates and I build up courage by watching people fall so I know it's ok. I remember the last time I fell was over 15 years ago. It terrifies me😐but I will be ok. Awesome video, i enjoyed it
This has made me feel so much better about my progress (very slow progress at that). Every beginner skate video i've seen recently has shown people with super quick progress and they're barely afraid. This video and all the other lovely comments have made me feel so much more normal Haha! I am terrified of falling and Ive never done anything like skating before so i am a proper BEGINNER. Seeing people similar to me and knowing i can still eventually skate is really encouraging! Thanks for making this video! :D
I searched for: learning to rollerskate. And i am binge watching because it is such an inspiration! I am also learning. I am at day 3. And yes i was terried to fall so i practised falling!! Now i am good.
Just got my first pair of rollerskates, and it's reassuring to see someone as terrified as me. Thank you for sharing your vulnerabilities, it's so encouraging for someone like me to see you succeed despite your fear x
Omg I am so glad I found you, I just got my skates today and I put them on and I couldn't do anything I was feeling I can't move. Every other video I have watched they all looked so perfect from the first time. You are like me 😍😍 you are giving me hope of becoming better and get over fears. Thank you for being honest
eva grigora I am so glad you enjoyed it ☺️ There’s plenty more fear where that came from haha i’m still so terrified every time I put them on, but hoping to get another Vlog filmed soon!
It's actually great to see someone my age, my skill level (I have just done about 4 sessions myself) I sometimes feel a bit stupid when I see all these.people being sooo good on day 1 while I'm just struggling still to just skate forwards :)
Congrats on your bravery with skating (and for getting past your first fall). Skating is more than a sport, it’s getting past fears and learning we can accomplish what we put our mind to ❤️
He awesome for helping you!! God bless you guys!!! I subscribed! I'm rooting for you. Thank goodness you didn't get hurt when you fell. I was afraid you got hurt but thankfully you're ok
I got skates recently and on the first day I fell backwards really fast and hit the middle of my back on this step while winding myself. Since then I've been so nervous about trying again on my own outside but I don't want to give up right at the start. This might sound weird but seeing your video has made me feel a lot better because it's nice to see that it's not just me that's fearful of falling over and feels like they need a hand at first, so thank you for making me feel more normal. I skated outside while clinging to my mum today and I think I did improve even while holding onto her.
I love this so much! I am sooo new to skating I feel like I can’t do any of it. I hate clicking videos of “first time skaters” who start going backwards on their second pass. Thanks for sharing. I’m tall and afraid of falling and stopping is so hard!
Dear lord, do I LOVE your apartment. Edit; Also please don’t forget your helmet! I’m a beginner too, but I saw a video of a very experienced skater falling in her house and hitting her head on a coffee table-it was terrifying. I’ve also had a pretty bad fall which would have given me a concussion without me helmet. Your pink one is so cute, too!
Thank you so much for making this video! I’m starting out like you with not much experience and pretty scared. So many other beginner videos I’ve watched, they start out so fearless idk how! This feels much more realistic and is very encouraging!
Have you tried loosening your trucks? It made a big difference for me. Also check your wheels (not too tight or loose). Softer wheels (Radar Energy or Atom Pulse are good) with good bearings will help outdoors. Also, you should be sitting a LOT lower, bend those knees and keep looking forward 👍 There are a lot of misleading unboxing ‘beginner’ videos, where they’re skating in the street or jumping around. It’s just not the case for most people. It is very nerve wracking skating outdoors at first. Please don’t compare your progress with those misleading videos 😊
Yes I recently sat down and had a play with my trucks and realised that both them and my wheels were too tight so hopefully now moving around will be a lot easier and smoother! Also going to look at better/softer wheels as I’m really struggling to find a smooth outdoor area to practice! Thanks for the advice 😊
Thank you for posting this! I’ve watched so many beginner videos where they just take off after the first day and look like total naturals. I’m finding it difficult to find my balance and thought I was the only slow learner. It’s fun though :) I watched and practiced how to fall a lot because I don’t want to get seriously hurt but I’ve fallen a few times now and it’s not SO scary anymore.
I was so "happy" to hear someone express their huge fear of falling, not in a sadistic way but because, at least I'm not the only one.... But then I saw you^^ You're performing so much better than me!! I litteraly freeze. But I held on and tried and tried and tried. And it just feels like it's going worse each time :'(
I felt the exact same, the vlog doesn’t show all of my off screen feelings, but I had days where I went out but then was too scared to actually skate so went back home. I’ve taken a break over winter as there’s no rinks open and outdoor skating isn’t possible so I will be even more scared going back to it in Spring 🙈
I felt the same way. After falling a few times though, it’s kinda like your worst fear is just not as bad as you thought so you panic less after them. If you feel like you’re gonna fall, just bend your knees!
Great to see a fellow Brit skating :) Nearly 30? im 43 and cant skate enough, i hope you have the bug for life, i was a 90's teen and we all skated back then and i couldn't wait to get my kids into it, i had my youngest skating on full blown proper skates at 2 1/2, she was the star attraction our regular venue he he. As for stopping GET A BACKSTOP!!!! you wont ever look back when you discover the shear stopping power of one, you can put all your weight into it without the risk of falling forward. The skate guards at my local hate me during games like tag as dart to the side then stand on the backstop with so much weight that one skate is off the floor and the two back wheels on my other skate are barely touching the ground and im almost balancing on just the stop and the skate guards fly past me, they just cant compete with how fast i can stop lol My worst fall was during a speed skate at my local venue, I wan giving it absolutely everything I had and lost grip and ended up landing directly on my bum then slammed into the wall, I was unable to skate again for days and could hardly walk ether!
Watching your progress was great! I haven’t gotten my skates yet, but I definitely will probably be in the same boat as you! Can’t wait to watch your other vlogs!
Thank you so much for sharing your story so honestly. I also have great fear doing this - I fell very hard as a child and never since tried it again. But I wanna overcome this fear, as I see that this fear is holding me back of having joy in life. I am so happy to see you doing something similar. This is inspirational. I bought my skates yesterday and I am anxious and excited at the same time. I think wearing them at home too would also be a great idea, I should try that too than. Wish me luck. :D
i love this video! i have only started a month ago learning how to roller skate. it's also really hard to learn on asphalt/gravel when your wheels aren't gummy/soft. once i got outdoor wheels it really helped a lot.
@@danielledean793 yes radar energy wheels!! i have them in both 62 mm and 57 mm. they are worth it if you're skating in gravel all the time. hybrid wheels will do fine if you're in a tennis court. also my bolt on toe stops are really too big/annoying i notice. i am building the skates that i really want soon with a riedell suede boot and i'll be able to get adjustable toe stops.
Thanks I will have a look at those! It sounds like your boots will be amazing. I know what you mean about the toe stops, something just doesn’t feel right with mine either!

Lol for me I never ever fall during my practice but 1 week later when I know how to skate properly that's when I fall I've been skating for 1 month and 2 days now and Im so glad Ive only fall 5 time
Hi, there is already a second vlog up, I haven’t done a 3rd yet as life has been very busy. When the weather improves/rinks reopen after this second lockdown I’ll get back to it ☺️
omg how were you able to stand so well on them when you FIRST put them on??? i fall straight away as soon as i try to stand i cant even move an inch without falling
Hi, I got the set of 3 in Medium, the wrist guards are a tiny bit big, the elbow pads are just right, but I do think the knee pads are very very small fitting so I would recommend buying them separately ☺️
Yes definitely, Ive ordered an XL pair since and I think I was being overly cautious as they’re just abit too big, L would have been perfect for me. I wear a UK 10-12. Hope that helps!
Idk if it's a tip but I listen to music and focus on that when learning something on wheels you're 100% gonna fall but that isnt something to be embarrassed about. I do recommend good wrist guards that help prevent your wrists from bending backwards too far if you go to catch yourself. Also watch some videos on how to fall and if you're feeling unstable try squatting lower it helps you gain balance.
Beggars-this is my very first time skating :/ Them 5 mins later - yeah I got this Me 3 weeks later- still being pushed backwards by my skates 😂 how do you’ll do it, girl you have heart
3:39 those are called toe stops and are only to be used to stop yourself when going backwards. Take my advice - I have been roller skating for over 30 years. I wish I could be there to help you. You are practicing mistakes : (
I know this is super old but I would advise wearing a helmet... you wear the rest of your gear and I would hate to see your injure your head just because you won't wear a helmet. Your head is very important! Be safe out there
I'm just getting into roller skating so I've been watching a lot of videos and it seems like almost everyone wears the pads but not a helmet and that confuses me lol I'd rather protect my head from a concussion than my knees and elbows from some scrapes but that's just me!!

Hi, there is already a second vlog up, I haven’t done a 3rd yet as life has been very busy. When the weather improves/rinks reopen after this second lockdown I’ll get back to it ☺️
were about are you skating the paths look pretty good
❣❣
"I hope you've got it on camera", said no one ever when they've just gently body slammed the ground. 🤣 13:18
I love your voice
Exciting! Where did you get your pads and helmet?
Hi, they are from ‘Skate Britain’ 😊
omg how were you able to stand so well on them when you FIRST put them on??? i fall straight away as soon as i try to stand i cant even move an inch without falling
....and!....Umm?!.... How can I en-joy seeing?!....I want to do that!....khmm!!.... 😃😊
What do you use to edit? :D Sorry if this is rude.
Hey girl, what size are your protective gear?
Hi, I got the set of 3 in Medium, the wrist guards are a tiny bit big, the elbow pads are just right, but I do think the knee pads are very very small fitting so I would recommend buying them separately ☺️
Danielle Dean ahhh thank you!! would you recommend an L size for knee pads?
Yes definitely, Ive ordered an XL pair since and I think I was being overly cautious as they’re just abit too big, L would have been perfect for me. I wear a UK 10-12. Hope that helps!
Danielle Dean gotcha! Thank you so much! And happy skating 🕺🕺
Now this girl has muscle in her leg. You need all of that leg muscle to hold you up when your about to fall. Watch me fall on my butt today 🤣🤣🤣
I got my skates yesterday but used them for the first time today, I think I need back and bum pads because I only fall backwards 😭
I was totally noob when I first started but now I kinda getting better at it
👇
You need better outdoor wheels...you are awesome
Any advice/tips since I feel like I'll get laughed at if I fall
Idk if it's a tip but I listen to music and focus on that when learning something on wheels you're 100% gonna fall but that isnt something to be embarrassed about. I do recommend good wrist guards that help prevent your wrists from bending backwards too far if you go to catch yourself. Also watch some videos on how to fall and if you're feeling unstable try squatting lower it helps you gain balance.
@@holly3102 yeah I have wrist guards already, thanks
Beggars-this is my very first time skating :/
Them 5 mins later
- yeah I got this
Me 3 weeks later- still being pushed backwards by my skates
😂 how do you’ll do it, girl you have heart
Try learning how to fall. It’s a lot less scary once you learn how to fall correctly. It can also lower the chances of hurting your self
3:39 those are called toe stops and are only to be used to stop yourself when going backwards.
Take my advice - I have been roller skating for over 30 years.
I wish I could be there to help you. You are practicing mistakes : (
in the first clip you were doing it wrong you have to keep your hands to the side
You look and sound like Stacey Dooley with a northern twang
How about you find some clean flat concrete to skate on instead of that broken bitumen and stones place you've found!!
Oh no honey you need a smooth surface. Good job tho
Do a shout out to
Hi friend I like your black socks 🧦 thick or thin ones
I think people watched and didn’t subscribe or like
Tip: try not to look at your skates
Lol that's what I taught to my cousin cause she's a biggener but ended up falling😭🤚🏻
@@justsomerandomgurl7990 oof that happens mate, when you start skating you want to focus ahead of you, so you know what’s coming up.
@@SoulManeE Yeah I always taught my cousin that my she said looking on her skates is comfy for her lol
