    i’ve rollerbladed for fun since i was a kid (rocket power was huge when i was in elementary/middle school). it’s easier to start with a lower center of gravity, so bending your knees more will help a lot. i never got the hang of rollerskating, but ice skating and rollerblading always came easy for me. when you turn, i wouldn’t turn both skates - just the outside skate. imagine one skate is a bike, where you lean on one side to turn.

      @@HeglaTH-cam When falling, natural tendency is to throw arms up over head. Instead, keep arms down and drop your weight down forwards by bending knees and dropping to knee pads. Try to always fall forward instead of backwards. Your pads don't work when you fall backwards. Bad things happen when you fall backwards. Recommend a helmet, especially when learning new tricks and when going fast. Shit happens sometimes. Have fun! :)

    For anyone learning any form of skating (boards or boots), keep in mind falling is part of the learning process. Specially if you want to learn tricks - learning to bail is a helpful skill for avoiding small scrapes and bruises as much as possible. There's an art to falling lol watch skateboarders on large staircases - the way they try to shift momentum to absorb or minimize the force of the impact transferred into your body (the large stairs just require more obvious movements because the force is much higher if you just slam on the ground)

    Your end wheels will naturally wear faster than the middle. You can intentionally wear in a banana rocker by flipping the wheels but keeping the location during rotation. This will help with agility. I think your frames also have rockerable axles which are designed for slalom skating. I'm not sure if they do a small rocker, but you might want to avoid using that until you're more comfortable and stable because slalom rockers tend to be quite big for the quick footwork that's done. Great for agility but feels squirrelly for general skating.

      Yes, a banana rocker (outer wheels are slightly smaller, usually just 1 or 2 mm) will help your skates to not feel so “stuck” to the ground and might be more enjoyable and easier to do roller skate style transitions. Also just getting more comfortable on blades helps too. :). Good luck in your journey. Blading is super fun once you get the hang of it!

    I'll also say bend knees more, it's important. :D Get some cones, and practice with them, do some 8's, or snakes around them. Gain some speed and turn around the cone as close as you can. Inside leg first of course. This will teach you to go lower with knees bent, you can't turn sharp without that.
    Then do crossovers, crossovers are good, gain speed while turning, when coming off the cone, going for the other cone. Then backward crossovers too. And braking, look for soul slide, magic slide, power slide, parallel slide, try to figure out the best for you. But start with T-stop. T-stop and then turn/spin around should be enough for normal city skating.
    If you go downhill, go up a little bit, and then come down, control speed by constantly turning left and right. Definately don"t start on the top of the hill like i did. (fast, fast, too fast, what do i do, panic, into the ditch :D )

    Not sure anyone commented on this but for manual s (in blading normally called heel or toe roll) 1 way is to do drop knee ,which is sqaut 1 blade all wheels touching the other blade just rolling on toe wheel only and heel up,you kinda put your butt on the skate with only toe rolling,at first theyres usually a wobble on toe wheel only skate,but once you can control that toe it usually helps when doing standing up position,,the other is standing up knees bent put 1 skate in front with just heel rolling toe in air,both get you comfortable with only using 1 wheel not two,then if put both together while standing you get the scissor 1 heel 1 toe.might help.* Knee pads add safety for drop knee as knee will be close to ground,pads are ur friends on inline 🤸 edit: I watched till end of vid,your doing well.

    Interesting: I learned on quads and now they are very awkward to me now. I feel more in control on inlines and out-of-control on quads. I have since rockered my inline wheels. 76mm front, 80mm center 80mm center, 76mm back. I'll never go back to all 80mm wheels. Rockered just feels so natural. At first the rocker setup felt scary but after a few weeks it's all good. (Hockey players rocker and so do figure skaters)quads to inlines - It's all the same movements and from what you're doing great on freaking slotted brick for crying out loud. You look very stable on inlines..

    There's lots of transitions and tricks that even work on both rollerskates and rollerblades. I'v never roller skated before but what's probably the main difference is how you switch between your edges on inline (blades). There's no trucks so the balance is probably allot different.

    Rollerskating is similar in ways, but - don't think it's the same. I can see around 3:00 you use the technique of skating - blading is similar, but instead of forming curves, form a v shape and push outwards. This is because skates have 4 wheels like on a car configuration, so you cannot carve into the surface, you have to keep it flat and roll over it. Rollerblades can lean at angles. By al means - the curve shape is useful at low speeds, but building speed requires steeper angles with the leg. Don't be afraid to widen your stance and push harder on your legs. I could see you eventually picked most of it up. Great video, very constructive, and nice to see you taking it just one bit at a time. Very enjoyable.

      You can brake like when doing bubbles which is the easiest way to slow down - go out like this \ / then round it in and when your toes are coming together like this / \ pull your feet backwards as they try to roll into a point and it'll make you go slow! Like pull back so they don't touch in a /\ shape, keep them like this / \ (that make sense? lol)

    Your comment at the beginning of the video about how unstable and skinny it looked cracked me up XD. As someone who started on rollerblades and now does figure skating, I had the exact same though when I first started. Although I guess when you first start you don't pay attention to it much because you are trying to not land face first on your face 😂. Love the videos btw, big inspiration to start skating and continue it❤Also, transitions are much easier if you have a rockered blade like me (which is basically and curve in you blade), it allows more ease in weight transfer, but it also means you only have the middle wheels on the ground when skating normally.

    I don't think this has been mentioned yet so I'll drop it here. In regards to fluid turns and transitioning from forwards to backwards and vice versa, as you wear in your wheels you'll develop a more natural ability to turn. In my case, the way I skate leads to my third wheel being ever-so-slightly larger, not enough to be noticeable to the eye or while skating in a line, however gives me something to pivot on and makes changing direction super easy. When I have new wheels, until that wear occurs, I feel horribly locked to the ground.

    Hi! i'm incredibly late to be commenting... I did the opposite of you, learning to roller blade/iceskate before learning how to skate on quads. To transition on ice and inlines, you don't actually have to point your toe or heel. On quads it's neccisary to get them to rotate, but you can actually drag your wheels/blade flat on the surface in order to get your body to turn... once you turn, I prefer to step my other foot until I'm skating backwards. I would say the most important skill on inline/ice skates are cross overs as they are really nice for catching yourself if you over commit to leaning in a turn. Just my opinion tho!

    1:20 Blades have more balance forwards and backwards than skates, whereas quads obviously have more width to them. But I also feel that as we balance on our feet to walk, and they are a more narrow shape, that makes blades more similar way to the way we naturally balance🤷🏽‍♀️ idk I could be wrong

    OMG new rollerblader!
    There's a whole range of rollerblading skills you can learn depending on what you'd like to be able to do.
    Brandon Drummond on TH-cam has some great aggressive skate tips
    MushroomBlading are also amazing for tips and tricks on transitions and general skating.
    Hope you stick with it, there's LOADS of amazing rollerbladers in the UK.

    Once again you are my inspiration (and lord & saviour :) ) as your video appeared the same day as my rollerblades. So basically doing everything so far that involves wheels under your feet (yikes!) - You are picking it up really quick - well done with those skills. 😊 😊

    i have gone from blades to skates, and i will defenitly say blades are MUCH harder. I have been rollerblading for 9 years and when i tried skates i found it super easy! defenitely prefer roller skates! i do roller derby now.

    When I was like 10, my friend told me roller skates were for 'children and people who were bad at rollerskating' so I got rollerblades. I later discovered that if I want to try artistic rollerskating I'd struggle to use my clunky rollerblades, but I didn't get round to buying a pair or rollerskates until a week ago. They're arriving today, and I'm almost as terrified as you were switching to rollerblades. But hopefully it'll be fun :)
    Edit: they arrived and I am so wobbly, but I’ll improve

    I find rollerblading way easier than rollerskates 🤔 the narrow edges of inline are way easier than the wide edges of rollerskates. I literally just keep my feet and lean in the direction I want to go🤷‍♂️

    So basically I really wanted to do rollerskating but then I had to go to another country and I wanted to get rollerskates there but that country only had rollerblades, but I still took the rollerblades. But then when I returned back to the country where I originally live I did not wanna try rollerblades anymore but then one day I was bored so I tried it out and now I'm pretty good!
    Tip:practice on hard wooden floors! ♡

    hi Hegla.i seen your skate videos before i tried in line skate going from quads.but 3 months and 2 sparined ankles later left and right im going back to quads as im not 15 anymore doin roller disco im 61.But from experience on inlines i think be better to have more stabilty for my ankles.Well hopefully and as i lay in bed with frozen peas around my ankle i ordered some slade s-quad skates.I saw the stuttering skater youtube doing a review of the slade skates and he is amzing skater who can use both inline and quads so i went for it.

    Hahaaa, growing up in Finland we all have to learn ice skating at school, so inline skating comes relatively naturally and the idea of roller skates with parallel wheels seems terrifying, at least to me :D

  • @ValentinLEUNG
    @ValentinLEUNG 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have to command you for actually skating something for the first time on tiled surface.. :D Even though you already know how to roller skate.
    From my personal experience, I switched from quads to inline 20+ yrs ago and never looked back, it was surprisingly easy, had 3yrs of urban skating on quads though.
    People doing the reverse switch had a worse experience though. :]

  • @Hdtjdjbszh
    @Hdtjdjbszh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you get used to inline skates they become a lot easier on urban surfaces than quads, thinner larger wheels absorb and roll over so many bumps

  • @dianamackintos6185
    @dianamackintos6185 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tip the stronger your legs are the easier it is to move faster or stop so try doing squats, train your feet muscles (so they have a longer tolerance) and maybe try some new moves.

    Honestly in my opinion rollerblading is one of the easiest things i’ve done, i just feel like quads are to heavy for me and kind of harder to move the way i want them too. But thats just how it is with me.

    Keep blading around till your body get used to it, find balance point. Learn how to slow/stop is more important than going fast. Once u master these 2 skills then the world of blading open to U. I'm an aggressive blader for over 20 years. I said I was done but my blade addiction has relapsed. Watching your video makes me giggle so hard 🤣. Keep going u will be surprise wat u can do in time

    You would find it easier with a hardened leather hockey boot or carbon fiber leather hybrid boot, that sort of skate you are using is very heavy and the sock/liner inside the skate adds weight and reduced reaction speed and power making it more tiring and balance is hard when tired.
