Do you prefer the new Danjin or the old Danjin?
Old to be honest. I'm not sure who these ppl who complained about old Danjin are, but i liked the old version. It created real character diversity & the intensity of her battle dialouge was so visceral.
This may be wrong, but my personal take it that these complainers' "real" complaint was that it's hard to "waifu-ify" a character that is suffering from a mental disorder.
Had they stuck with old Danjin they could have developed an amazing story where they find a partial cure (bc this is a fanstasy world) & Danjin needing to grow as a character & accept herself could be the trigger for that cure to take full effect & we could have gotten a fleshed out story leading to when Danjin goes from crazy girl to someone who finally accepts & loves herself without needing others to affirm her. & then we could get what we have now with this new version of her, a justice focused self confident girl with a bit of crazy hiding in there as a left over remnant of who she was. Bonus points if they even update her in game battle dialouge so that after the arc it becomes what we have now, but they still leave a toggle option so ppl who liked the way old Danjin spoke can still hear that battle dialouge.
So i'm sad at such wasted potential. & maybe it wasn't a "waifu" drive that was made ppl uncomfortable, but i can't help but feel that if Danjin was a burly man who was mentally unhinged & spoke in 3rd person instead of a cutesy girl, nobody would bat an eye.
I like new Danjin. I dislike "yandere"s because I've been stalked IRL, which isn't as fun as it sounds. I usually dislike 3rd person talk because it either comes off as purposely dumb (I'm talking drooling baby levels of naivete, aka: Paimon) or needlessly ego-centric.
@@roadbone1941 Honestly, Danjin doesn't feel very yandere to me. The trope in general feels more like joke that everyone in said setting where it's happening kinda plays it off as cute or acts like it's normal. Or it's some weird horror fetish thing in other scenarios. In Danjin's case it seems very much like she just has mental instability & that makes it feel more sad & real. She's not trying to be that way bc it's cute. In her old lore her power literally breaks down the users mind. So she kept fighting for the sake of the people she loved & that's why she became obsessed with them. Bc basically what's tethering her to her sanity is the people she is protecting. & if she sounds like a child or dumb for speaking in 3rd person it's bc, as i said, her mental faculties are decreasing. So it makes sense she would start saying her name to refer to herself bc she very possibly could be forgetting her own name & wants to not forget it. But she definitely isn't refering to herself in third person bc of arrogance.
Otherwise, sorry to hear you've been stalked... Sounds terrible.
@@roadbone1941 you basically voiced my thoughts on the matter. 😂
I honestly do not really like any anime character tropes (especially the maid, cutesy cat-girl, childlike/shy, and other some-person-that-is-very-much-not me fantasy). Always hard to watch (and get caught watching). I do like interesting characters, however, and Danjin SEEMED more interesting and less typical before. I was very interested to see her story because it was rather unique compared to essentially just being a "hero".
I liked the vacant eyes and near psychotic expressions as they were believable in the context of her character, and I thought it was a very nice touch to truly develop the character. I'm not sure I would ever get the impression that all or any people with DID would actually be like her. I have mental illnesses (relatively common ones), and very few of the people that I know that have them represent my experience. I do not feel misrepresented because those people exist nor think their experiences are inaccurate representations. It's actually helpful knowing that there are such vastly different experiences because it helps me not stereotype my own circumstances. So, I do not think it's harmful to have an uncommon representation, as long as it's not complete nonsense or mocking. Like Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice was unrealistic, but very believable and far more intriguing in its presentation.
She licks the blood from her finger at the end of the trailer before talking with the girl, which makes me think she might be a straight up sociopath or phycopath now... Or at the very least a sadist that uses justice as a justification to inflict pain on others... Not sure how to feel about that if that's the case. XD
I was thinking the same thing. Honestly I kinda like dark or troubled characters so that’s not a problem to me with that said if wuthering waves is too scare to explore certain story content cause they scare of controversy the story could be affected in a negative way but only time will tell hoping for the best
@@Yowaiiiiiii Is that true? Guess I gotta take another look.
Thats her own blood, she needs to recuperate it because she uses alot of it on battle, she even has a device on her hand that takes out her blood to make the crimson sword
Really? I think she is eating a cookie
I def prefer the newer Danjin, while I miss the old family ties, her model and voice are much better than before. Like the voice actor was good, but it really just sounds wayyyy too off.
I agree the new one is way better like even the voice is so much better when I heard it in cbt 1
I really hope they haven't thrown away the morally-grey side of her entirely. Instead of having an alter associated with DID, I would change her personality to be two-faced as a means of representing her 'good' and 'bad' sides.
I think it would be cool if her character struggles with apathy and sadism. It would be interesting if her view on justice places those she deems 'good' on a pedestal, but then for those she deems 'bad' to be nothing but filth that must be eradicated from existence. She could be a two-faced character that would graciously give everything for the ones she idolizes, but then feel nothing for those who don't fit her ideals on justice. In the presence of those she idolizes, she would be the sweet and kind girl we've seen her to be so far, but when alone with those who don't meet her expectations, she becomes apathetic towards them, and her sadistic side would reveal itself.
To add a more deeper perspective, the fear of abandonment aspect in her character can be further developed as well. Her motivation could be based off a belief that the people she idolizes will one day abandon her if she doesn't continue acting as her people-pleasing persona, and that fear of abandonment drives her to pursue the justice they seek as a way to prove her worth. She's frustrated with herself, so she simultaneously uses justice as an outlet for relieving herself of stress which would explain why she switches into an apathetic state devoid of ethics. Her stress would be so overwhelming in the moment that her selfish priority to relieve it would override any ability to empathize with others. She would experience sadistic pleasure because she copes with her suffering by inflicting pain on others to mimic the idea of sharing the pain together. The mental health aspect of her character could be that she lacks self-worth which resulted in the development of her ruthlessly apathetic and sadistic traits.
Just some thoughts from me since I think she has a lot of potential to make an outstanding character if written correctly! It would be an absolute shame if she merely ends up as the uninspired 'perfect girl with no flaws' troupe
That sounds great! Honestly gonna use this as inspo for a morally-grey character I'm trying not to make seem so evil
@@donut1550 I’m honoured!!!! ❤️❤️
Nanami speaks in 3rd person, but I never found it weird. I always just thought she was quirky.
I think the self-assuredness Nanami has makes it seem less weird. She’s basically her own announcer for her heroic deeds!
do you play in JP dub or EN?
both makes a difference
That makes sense, i guess in that type of situation the third person talk is fine
@@motokaichou2010 can you develop that difference?
Bambinatta as well.
kuro made the right call by a long mile. mental illnesses are a touchy subject, but if they're well written they can make for amazing stories and characters (see silent hill 2, for example).
the fact they're going as far as revisiting whole character personalities, backstories and motives makes me hopeful for the writing in general. i've noticed that her inspection report was quite well written and flowed really well. hopefully we'll see what they cooked for the actual story soon enough
The new version is better tbh. And since the main theme of her character is justice, this could allow the writers to dive into the different types of that subject, since they are know for creating morally grey characters. And since WuWa world is in a post-apocalypse ambience, this allows players to see how her characters develops, better or worse.
I hope they still lean on her mental illness and explore that side of her, but with care and time. Would make as a great exposure point for a lot of people, and I think it can be a great story.
As long as kuro is left alone with the creative process and the development of the game, all is well, the company has some amazing talent, let them cook, and I hope they don't shy away from mature themes
There's a guy on Twitter who is Chinese and he shows things that were lost when they come to the English version.
The danjin name when it was first revealed had a strong reference to jade and virtue. but in the first cbt this meaning in the name changes to a red flower called cinnabar.
now they've gone back to the name she had when it was first revealed, which makes me believe that this danjin in the showcase is the version they originally had in mind, but for some reason in the first cbt it changed. (I remember there were rumors in China that the guy who was writing the story for the first beta was taking paths that conflicted with what the rest of the team wanted and was fired... anyway, just rumors)
and danjin remains a little crazy, but in a subtle way. If you notice in the showcase after she wipes the blood off her face, she licks her finger that she wiped off previously
I heard about the rumor of the writer guy that got fired too. First he used to work with Snowbreak, then WW, and now Netease (maybe writing for Project Mugen lol). People there look really happy that he got fired lol.
@@boboverlord1I can see why the cn were happy like the plot was poor the way he wrote it since you mentioned you going to work for NetEase now I see not good plot for mugen
She clearly just "eated" a cookie or something at the end... Doesn't looks like a "lick"
You can see the thumb and the index finger holding something
Plus do you really think she would do that just in front of the girl?
@@reyxo4657 not necessarily licking it, but the fact is that she takes the finger that she had used to clean the blood from her face to the mouth. and yep, I think she would do that in front of the kid because it's not like that kid had the full context of the situation or something like that...anyway, I'm not going to extend this too much, take whatever interpretation you want
@@whatamess8894
Oh yes, you can interpret the fact that she's eating a cookie with the same hand she wiped her blood as you wish
I'm just warning against misinformation
My core issue was that it felt as if it was a bit too much or taken to the extreme and the other thing is that I wanted her to be all about justice since Jiyan is her guardian and father/older brother like figure in her story so even from the first cbt I wanted them to turn her more like towards how she is now compared to how she was and I am glad they made the change, I don't mean to say they should not explore such a touchy subject with their characters but they can do it with a better story explanation and not to this extreme level of course.
They are really dedicated to feedback, huh. That's pretty neat! New Danjin feels a bit tamer, but I honestly feel the changes are for the better.
Cn player complaining about it and they know they cant sell an unhinged character.
Dang i liked her yandere demeanor a lot
While I'm partial to the old Danjin since I liked the yandere aspect of her character, I'm interested in the direction. Making the darker side of the character more subtle means there'll be more depth in her story to come. I never really thought of anime characters speaking in third-person as infantilization, but I'm not against the change at all either.
One thing I love about the new PV for Danjin is the way her presence is depicted. When facing away from the caravan in the distance, she looked like a sinister shadow. When she was behind the masked guy, he seemed to only know she was there from her intimidating pressure. I'd say she's more like a wolf in sheep's clothing now, where she was just a rabid one before. I can't wait to see how her story goes this time around!
Damn the game was going to be dark, now is going more lighthearted than again it can be a slow burn
PGR has a pretty dark story despite how it might look on the surface, so time will tell for Wuthering Waves!
Honestly prefer the new Danjin. Not that I hated the old Danjin but I think this is much better
The old crazy girl was kinda better
4:27 Actually, Gonta DOES speak in 3rd person in the English Dub of Danganronpa V3. It's the only time I've seen this gendered trope be flipped on its head.
I'm sure he speaks like that too in the JP dub
@@doedoel035 That would make a lot of sense.
Great vid! Thanks for this! I was on old Danjin team! I loved her old battle dialouge! But i'm still using her bc Danjin is awesome!
I prefer whichever Danjin has more yandere
I would've liked the darker character version. Now we just got another run of the mill goodie two shoe/CCP Acceptable/Woke/Social Credit++ kind of personality. Imagine trying to watch the Joker in theaters and they cancel the movie because someone, somewhere in this world of 8 billion people got triggered by it. If devs/writers want to make insane characters then by all means as long as if makes the cast/story interesting. Big pass on this one for me.
True. That's why we will never have great things.
Thats the most cringe edgelord bullshit i ever Heard , the people that want always dark bullshit are pathetic degenerates and simps without life or their own
I don’t think it’s the CCP. Kuro’s changes to the game are due to criticism from their fans in China. The government wouldn’t really care unless WuWa has something in it criticizing it.
The new one is definitely better but... i will miss her crazy ult voiceline "NO MERCY!" it just fit the vibe of a girl that lost her memory, is protecting something or someone, takes risks when in dire situations and many other ideas. The new voiceline probably sounds closer to her actual character than simply sending shivers down your spine and looking cool.
this is why whenever I write an original character of my own with some kind of insanity trope for their character, I just never try to label the mental problem they have, easier for the writer and much less risk of making sensitive and bad assumptions
I prefer Old Danjin, I don't play games to solely be realistic... outside of the weird 3rd person dialogue... especially in english, I find the new version less interesting and rather boring. It's unfortunate. I liked that she was more seemingly emotionally unstable and detached from reality.. which is fine if it's due to mental illness, I can't see it any other way... you can't be normal and be a sociopath, it just doesn't check out... yes, it was in a tropey type of anime way, but people need to realize these uncomfortable truths.. and the uncomfortable truths of that extremes exist, and this is an anime video game. I'm kinda miffed that they got cold feet on their original take of this specific character.
not every mentally ill person has to be emotionally unstable and detached from reality?? and even then, that's clearly not the only problem with danjin's character?? it's not an uncomfortable truth, it's misrepresentation!! these complaints about how people show DID in media have existed for years!!
@@ghostingspiritright
i just stumbled across your channel and watched a few videos, i love your work!! your videos are amazingly edited and delivered, keep up the good content :)
I may have been early to your post about this..
But, I am early here, too.
Though, still, an hour late.
However. As always, great work, GRR.
*-Unknown Construct **_a_*
I really like the new version, but it'd be pretty cool to see her demeanor and voice lines change as her HP dropped or something similar. Getting more desperate the closer she is to falling.
I know I'm 2 months late with it, but honestly, When most people talk out of person, they'll usually speak in the second person. Which is a very cute way of talking, though, it can sometimes be hard to tell when they are talking about themselves, without them constantly saying their name, which has its own issues. I do hope they explore some quirkyness in speech patterns in general though, as that is a thing that is never explored, or explored well when it is.
I don't wanna say I prefer new or old Danjin, especially when we don't know that much about new Danjin. But I will say that old Danjin was really cool.
old Danjin is perfect lore
New Danjin looks refined but I do miss the unhinged old Danjin
Personally, I think this type of character can work really nicely and lead to some interesting dialogs and events. But in a gatcha games where focus is put on MANY characters and the space is really limited, it'd be really really hard to make Danjin work without making her seem childish or unreasonable or just over saturated as a character. For example some things should be properly built up through the game, additional characters etc. Rapid changes that might seem out of pocket will just confuse players instead of making her lore more appealing.
Also, i really love her new voce lines and this type of voice suits her wayy better in my opinion. As for her sister i really will miss her if they got rid of her. It was a really nice and imo significant detail in her character
Mental health can be Not subtle
Casual player won't even see the message unless it's plastered all over
And what's wrong with yandere? Being an anime trope does not exclude the fact that there's people like that in a real world.
And are psychos like the people that like that shit, in reality that gray shit always ends Bad because of idiots that think is more interesting that way
Wished they doubled down on the yandere vibes while revising certain things like her mental health
i like the design either way, great video as always ! btw, whats the PGR song/ost in the second half of the video ?
Last Resort in the first half / Red Tide in the second half 💗
@@RateUpRadio thank you so much !
I liked the delivery on her older lines too, much more berserker esque. Otherwise I'd say the changes are really good.
She's SO much better now, thank god.
About the 3rd person for male anime characters rhough its rare they aren't exempt either. For example the English voice of Gonts Gokuhara from Danganronpa 3 speaks in 3rd person.
Yeah but i guess that’s just an extreme case because he’s a literal caveman lol
unrelated to the video, but the moment I heard the music, I realised that we'll probably get more of these bangers in WW
I fricking hate that archetype of characters that are like "Oh yeah she is a psychopath, but she is cute". It used to be fun back in the days, but right now it's just old and cliche. If a character is mentally unstable, just embrace it and make their design low-key unhinged
I feel like she uses justice as a excuse to inflict pain (cause of the blood lick) so im hoping im right
Havent seen her in the story yet, but id love it if she was lil psycho as it would fit with her playstyle
So shes now more kid friendly??
All I can say, speaking in third person is a Japanese thingy. If I am not mistaken, most children before 3rd grade learn the language that way. Which is why speaking in third person, kind of present a child-like personality in Japan. Which would make sense for Danjin to portray her mental health. (I guess this is stereotypical as well, mental issue -> child-like act)
Note that they only use their name instead of first-person pronoun, but never use He/She/They.
I liked more the crazy old Danjin 😞 that was a nice interesting character history, where you feel curiosity about her and why she is like that. Those lost crazy eyes were were hypnotizing.
I really like the new version its better than the old one BUT PLEASE RETURN THE OLD NO MERCY AND CRIMSON PERMEATE
I like both. BUt having an insane Danjin would be epic 😀
Maybe I am the only one that prefer the old Danjin, if you think about it Danjin is basically No.21 but less robotic
I just like when the characters are imperfect personality wise and stand in grey area instead just black and white personality
It is a shame since PGR does this so well, Alpha, Luna, Vera, No.21, Selena, Roland and Camu (a.k.a I can fix them)
Fractured characters gives interesting way how they see the world setting they're in
But that just my opinion
Hm. Well, I don't really have a preference for either one. I'd be more concerned but ever since the Chixia redesign it's been clear to me that they are still rebuilding a lot of stuff. As such, I think that it's still way too early to worry about what-ifs. Let's wait for them to cook with the story, and then decide whether the Danjin change was a huge loss or not.
she reminds me of Suletta Mercury.
"They don't do with anime boys either, it's always girl" meanwhile polar bear from we bare bears, nailing it.
No mames mi vieja era una yandere
Any clue at all on when the game will be released?
No confirmation yet but likely sometime in 2024!
I wish they didn't make her this cutesy waifu and kept some of the dark stuff from her old self. Mental disorders aren't nice, and to have some form of a mental disorder character in this game felt affirming since it's not very common in games to have that. Especially one with emotional instability or personality disorder like this.
Making her be obsessively protective of her family could have been kept in - same with her being aggressive and unstable during fights. Other stuff that are borderline psychopathic didn't need to be there but the new Danjin is just... a normal damn girl. Scratching original design completely, making her this cutesy waifu, which is really sad.
WAIT, Yin Lin isnt Danjin's sister??!!
Is the like button bug?
Changing things for the fans has its risks too, I hope they also keep their vision. Treating mental health themes with more gravity is good, but I think her previous incarnation had more personality.
More personality is not always a good thing
Its 5 in the morning 😁❤❤
5 in the afternoon for me.
1 a.m here 🌙
Was 8am
was midnight here
It's Danjin o'clock for me.
The old one was so much better. If her having DID was so offensive they could have just removed any references to real life mental disorders instead of completely sanitizing the character
Jinyan is such tsundare
I really hope wrong people won't fill this game; otherwise everything will become controversial in the game.
Look at HSR's Hanabi.
Hey, I'm a Sparkle enjoyer. I DO like my UwU Tao.
Sparkle is more of a troll, shes a degenerate but with a Lot more equilibrium and morals than we though
I need gen 2!!!
Her sister is definitely Vera! I knew it! That old skan-
YOU CAN RUN ABOVE WATER?????
I love the current one
This whole "controversial" and "problematic" debate gives me the shivers and makes me scared that this game will have a player base similar to Genshin Impact. If the people who play this game are even one bit similar to the ones who play Genshin Im either not going to play it or simply not interact with anyone who plays or talks about it just so that I dont get into these childish dramas.
Just like Danjin
Yes , would prefer a darker side to her... Would make more sense with her scarlet theme
Another censored character, game is not for kiddies though.. I guess now they can say it's for kiddies too
What censored? Danjin looks like that since Technical Test last year.
me when mental illness gets portrayed incorrectly and valid criticism for that is made!!
Didnt know she was controversiol.
I didn't know she had those mental health issues in the first CBT, but i think it was almost better that way, It didn't only add more diversity to the roaster, but it was also a bit more realistic and interesting you know, even if it's a game it doesn't have to be all sunshine and rainbows
Ps. Glad she now talks in first person
The change in her design is a directly reflection of what's wrong with our society.
"You shall hide your eccentricities and be affable all the time!"
But since this is a gacha game, it's probably better this way. They can never dedicate sufficient resources to tell her story properly since gacha means creating husbando/waifu while semi-abandoning the old.
Now she's boring and generic. YAyyyyyyy Can't have divisive charas since people are too afraid of their characters having flaws.
One thing is flaws another is being a degenerate psycho
3rd person = PAIMON
she got therapy ❤
Finally
I prefer new Danjin, but bring back the OG No Mercy delivery😭😭
I just hope the devs don’t sway away from the dark theme of the game
Me degen. Me can relate to characters with dual swords and mental disorders.
Get help
Seriously get help
just reduce the "genshin factor"
Who in their right minds want to create a girl who speaks gollum😑
That was pretty yikes, but I think they could have just made a Yandere crazy character like vera without the mental health stuff.
Like the changes, but we'll see what happens
actually ruined her....
No more yandere redhead? L
I'm glad she still has her ability to consume hp for high risk / high reward gameplay, it was fun in the beta.
In short, Delete "Dark", Add more "genshin". We knew the old writing is horrible, but it's more and more like a clone clone game now. For better or worse.
Barbara fiasco all over again, amirite?
I think the new direction they're taking her in is definitely better from a writing/characterization standpoint. Still, tbh I'm worried about their willingness to change their own writing decisions/visions for the story/characters based on player feedback. I prefer to see what story they have to tell without interference because I think it's more genuine than having a story cater to what people think they want or is best as it could make the characters/story inconsistent. Either way, I am glad that they seem to be trying hard to make sure that this game meets people's standards, and I'm looking forward to how the final product turns out.
Her design is so mid. Compared to the other girls who are stunning.
1
I understand the retcon ngl DID is a serious matter after all and you could sense they just wanted to use it to make her a "yandere" trope, I'm glad they went back and just made her change, I still think they can give the same vibe without having to use DID for it
I like the new Danjin, and I'm all for changes that will make the game better, we just know that Kuro really exceeds on making darker stories, I hope they don't shift too much from that and give the game a more softer approach, I get it's intentional to reach more audience, but It won't be appealing for a post apocalyptic world to be all shiny, at the end of the day, people will still be complaining regardless and no matter what.
The danger of darker stories is always the darkness induce apathy , too much dark can destroy your story and characters because it doesnt Matter anymore
I don't think they dropped the old Danjin. They just pushed the insane back in the story and then drop Insane Danjin back once we're too deep in the story.
Old one. They should have double down on the yandere tbh. I'm sure theres alot more peppy characters in wuthering. So having a split personality would really differentiate her from other happy go lucky characters.
Danjin is more interesting now imho
This is nice and all, but we already have a faVorite redheaded waifu and this ain't it chief.
God i hate the 3rd person shenanigans
Little did you know... Shota has a tendency to speak in 3rd person, not a person of culture I see :o
new version is much better. displaying mental health through a yandere stereotype was a bad idea. it's just lazy writing relying on typical anime tropes. we've had enough of them in media
Is she a yandere or is she just obsessive? Does she have a crush on the MC or anyone? Is it out of love?
Because through this video she doesn't sound yandere at all
Sure I don't like the way she talks in third person, but I loved the vibe she has for herself as this unhinged but keeping herself together
Especially her battle voice line which has a more realistic intensity to them
How is it lazy writing? This sort of character is much harder to write and make stories about than the generic justice girl new Danjin is, which has been done a thousand time before
Not every show or media need to lock themselves in portraying mental illness in a completely accurate way. Sometime its just a plot device to make the character interesting and create conflict. They're not trying to send a message, so why would a accurate representation matter?
@@DCminh-pe9wf accurate representation matters because people are influenced by the representations of mental illness they see in media?? the majority of these people haven't seen any of these mental illnesses in real life, media representations are the only thing they can go off of!! and mental illness is a sensitive subject in general, it's important to be careful with it??
Hi Lina, wanted to discuss something with you guys as fellow Wuthering Waves CCs but twitter won't let me DM y'all unless I buy twitter blue😅
Can I get a discord username or any other means of contacting y'all?
The newer danjin makes more sense as a personality but at the cost of that split persona trait she used to have if it was ever there at all. We all know wuthering waves isn't the best in tenrs of story writing and i feel that probably is reflected in Danjin quite a bit. But who knows? Mabye they'll develope her split personality farther into the games story the longer we get to know her. Personally i think she looks like a pretty cool character. Im just waiting until the hotfixes allow me to play the game past the tutorial. Im stcuk with the crashes 🥲
