      It took me a year to trash my screen, and that's with a protector. This screen is one of the only Gorilla Glass 3 screens in the lower end of the market. For what it's worth, the cracking process is two steps 1) a chip, 2) flexing. I'm kinda hard on my phones.

    How do you get the battery out

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have to apply heat with a hair dryer or blow dryer preferably from the screen side to loosen up the adhesive underneath the battery, then gently pry the battery off using plastic pry tools ( or old membership cards you don't need) that can get underneath the battery. Apply heat throughout the process if you need, but make sure not to over heat the battery and don't use metal tools.

    Can the mic be replaced?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its soldered to the board so would require a place or person who knows soldering well to be able to de solder it and remove it and replace it with a new one. You can also check the filter for the mic on your frame to make sure its not the filter that is clogged or covered preventing the mic from picking up sound. Use a tooth brush or something similar to brush out the small hole in the frame for the mic and see if it will help.

    Does the screen snap into place or is adhesive required? Wish you showed more about that.

    • @realbenactually
      @realbenactually 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm also curious about the adhesive. I need to remove my display to rescue a microSD card that somehow jumped out of the tray during insertion. Is it possible to reattach the screen without applying new adhesive, or is the adhesive more than likely to be destroyed in the process of opening it?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, most likely you will need new adhesive and its always suggested you apply new adhesive to prevent dust or debris as well as moisture or such to enter the phone. Sometimes the adhesive sticks again if its not too damaged when prying off but again I always apply new adhesive just in case. When applying adhesive you can cut a long strip for each side, apply it then use a razor or xacto knife to slice off excess and cut it down to size etc. Also usually there will be precut adhesive made especially for this model phones which a lot of people will be preforming repairs on. Keep checking ebay or amazon or the links I have in the description for etradesupply as these would be the locations they would be sold probably. Hope this answers your question :)

Yea the back is similar to the front, but you would need to first remove the battery as well since the finger print cable is run underneath the battery and you would need to free it up so when you pry the back off, it doesn't tear the cable (from what I remember, either way better safe than sorry so ya remove the battery first). Hi, do you know if the motherboard for a G7 Power international version, fits in a US version housing?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should fit fine, the only difference I can think of would be the sub board or charger port board which tends to have different antenna contacts which can sometimes cause issues with connection and signal etc. If you see you are having signal issues, you can try and flash a US version software to the board and see if it helps.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, you would just need to open the phone as shown in the video and make sure all cables are connected properly and the screws are fastened in place well. If still having issues, then your board might be going bad since most the antenna contacts are mounted to the board itself and if those broke then you would probably need to get a new phone. Also keep in mind there is a chance of breaking or damaging your screen if you are not careful when prying off. Make sure to apply some heat as well with a hair dryer to warm up the screen and loosen up the adhesive. You would need new adhesive to re attach the screen afterwards.

      It can very depending on brand of screw driver but I have found it personally best on smaller screws to use one size up and slightly press in while unscrewing to prevent stripping the screws. Some people will argue that using the incorrect size will strip the screws but from my experience all these years, it's worked best to prevent stripping. However T3 or T4 would do the job.

      Thanks! soldering isn't easy if you don't know what you are doing, I myself am not an expert and hardly ever do soldering. So I feel the best bet would be to take it to a repair shop that can do soldering and have them replace the charger port for you, or you can try contacting Motorola and see how much they would charge to replace the charger port. It sucks they didn't make the charger port on a separate sub board which in most phones now a day is replaceable rather than having to de-solder it.

    Very Nice. But VERY DANGEROUS!, the Battery Cable Should be unplugged before unplugging the Screen, and the Screen should be plugged in before connecting the Battery. The battery Must be connected last. It is very dangerous and can short out, RUIN the main board.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. But although true that the battery cable should be disconnected first when possible, it's not very dangerous and the risk of shorting if you are not using metal tools is very minimal. I have replaced screens on thousands of phones over the years which the screen cable was accessible before the battery cable and never ran into any problems. For example some of the google pixel phones. The screen comes off first and you need to disconnect the screen cable to then gain access to removing the screws on the mid plate to remove the midplate then you gain access to the battery cable and rest of the cables. Even if the battery cable was accessible at first, disconnecting the screen cable first will almost never short if again you don't use metal tools. This is the case only when it comes to phones, laptops and computers on the other hand are totally different. Disconnecting anything on those without disconnecting the battery at first can definitely short the board.

    • @WKellyJW
      @WKellyJW 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PBKreviews In this case the battery Can be removed first. It may not be dangerous for you because you probably have spare parts. But if the average person shorts out the main board, now he has to order the new part and wait at least 4 days to receive the part. Very inconvenient. Lets face it PBK better safe than sorry.... and most Android Phone batteries in the past years practically fell out after removing the back cover.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True better safe than sorry but just saying its not as risky as you may think on smartphones compared to computers.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly I'm not sure since I don't have it to double check anymore but it all varies. Sometimes some models will have all pins soldered on regardless of the dual sim capability and some may not. For example before there were motorola phones which had the pins installed for 2 sets of sims but only one sim support from the phone that was the USA version but the China version supported both sims and made use of those additional pins. However the USA one even with dual sim tray inserted would not detect the additional sim since the software was not initialized to detect it and use the additional pins.

  • @bnaudie

    Just got this G7 phone new. Instructions said to use the supplied sim tool to pop out sim tray. I stuck the tool in the bottom mic and pushed until it felt like it went through some rubber piece. Realized it wasn't the sim tray. Found the next hole on top and did the same thing, and then realized that was another mic. Finally found the sim tray. Don't judge. :/

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here is a link for the break down of the differences: www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9357&idPhone2=9533 Also most of the time, the software has to also be optimized to be enabled to read dual sim. In most cases, swapping a dual sim reader with a single when possible doesn't enable the phone reading the second sim until a firmware from a dual sim device is also flashed onto the phone. Changing the main board with one with a dual sim enabled from factory would work of course. But on this motorola ones with the sim readers soldered onto the main board, usually its just the additional sim pins are disabled from software, so all you would need to do would be to flash a firmware from a dual sim version of the phone onto your phone to enable it. How to flash firmware, you would need to google it (since it's been way too long since I ever did that and I don't remember how). First you would need to google how to do it, and second you would need to google and find a firmware from a phone in a region that does support the dual sim. Usually people post them on forums which can be found online etc.

    can you put a g7 power battery on a g7 phone.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No since the g7 power battery is a different shape and would not fit in a g7. If it was the same shape and the size would allow it to fit and the connector was the same, then it would work but in this case of the g7 and g7 power it wont.

      try holding vol down and power for 30 seconds to reboot to see if it's frozen. if nothing then it could be many things from bad display, to water damage etc.

    Thanks for this video. I used this when I wanted to replace the battery on my 3 y old Moto G7plus, since it discharged after only a day or so now. There is some minor difference inside, the battery cable goes in from the middle, not from the below like here, and there were also some black tape over the battery, that had to be cut off. The battery itself was glued somehow to the bottom, but I just broke it up and removed it, and applied some new tape over the new one.
    So far so good, but the screen also seemed glued to the phone? It was not to just click it back on as I had thought. Some of that glue is still there, and it seems to hold so far, but I guess it's best get some suitable glue to use on that. It's not completely closed all the way around, there is a bit light coming through a few places, when the phone is on.

      Hi. Yes the screen is held on with adhesive. You can buy replacement pre cut adhesive for the phone from these links in addition to other parts. Jesus, why Motorola keeps producing phones that have integrated batteries? Thanks for your video, I'll gladly avoid buying a g7!

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well pretty much all manufactures are making phones with integrated batteries now. Its not just Motorola. Just the way the tide has turned, there really is no choice since I can't think of a phone that has a removable battery now a days. It would be good if at least they designed it so it would have a easily removable/detachable cover to replace the integrated batteries. But basically the bottom line is, they don't want you to. They prefer to have you send them the phone and charge you to do it themselves.

    • @dendritibus
      @dendritibus 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PBKreviews you're right, in the end it's a matter of planned obsolescence...either by charging for battery replacement, or force you to buy a new phone. And frankly it looks like a cartel, considering that almost no producer release anymore models with replaceable batteries.
      Politicians should introduce some legislation to defend consumers, this is not right.
