      @@PBKreviews I used to have the phone, then I upgraded to s22. the moto's battery would last from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed charged to 85%, and not dead the next morning either (although it would be at 20%), even after it was over 1.5 years old. I would be lucky to have my s22 last from 5am to 8pm on a full charge. point is; it is ironic how old budget phones which costed $200 could outlast modern brand new flagships.

    Gluing these phone cases is the *worst* thing phone manufacturers have ever done. They could make a model instantly popular by simply using a few common screws or a snap-on plastic cover with a rubber gasket, and then having a battery that could be just pulled out and in. Anybody with brain one uses a case anyway.

A couple weeks ago I came across an amazing deal on a brand new one of these Moto G7 Power/Maxx from HSN. So far its been a most impressive phone. Beware: Most LCD replacements for the g7 power are only 154mm in lenght, the original lcd is 157mm in lenght. Which means the bezel isnt long enough and leaves a small gap

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      oh that's odd. Sometimes aftermarket screens arn't accurate but its been a while since I have herd of an issue like that. Best bet to try and find a replacement screen that is made from a better company or an original replacement if one is available.

    • @AmandaFelske25
      @AmandaFelske25 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      tre dolla the length discrepancy is because there is 2 different sizes...one is the US version and the other is an international version. The 157mm is the US Version and the 154mm is the international version. Has nothing to do with aftermarket screens versus original OEM screens. Just make sure you know which model you have and order from a reputable company that knows that there is 2 different sizes. Mobile Sentrix is a great company FYI and they have a lifetime warranty on everything.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AmandaFelske25 Weird how they made a different since for different region. You would think they would keep it the same to save on costs. Unless its a entirely different model say Plus vs regular or power vs standard edition, I wouldn't usually think a xt1955-01 lets say would differ from a xt1955-02 aside from internal antenna layouts or software etc. But I guess in some cases they do.

    These damn phone companies really go out of their way to make replaceable batteries a thing of the past when in reality this phone could have easily had this option, but instead they opted to make it so you need to disassemble the whole damn thing up to the last screw to be able to remove the battery.. fuck them.. bye bye.

    • @Aetila
      @Aetila 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting...I was checking this option and on the Moto G6 you CAN switch the battery by easly taking off the backside by pressure in a corner. Strange that they went back to a non-removable battery on the G7...

  • @grimmdanny
    @grimmdanny 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you know if it's possible to remove the battery on this phone, and then wire up the main board to an external power source, and power it up without USB? I know it seems weird, but I bought one of these phones as a dedicated media server for Android Auto for my car's head unit. I know I could have gotten an SBC, but I needed something with built in WiFi, Bluetooth and SIM Card support to accept calls on my car's head unit.
    My car doesn't provide enough power to charge this phone, but I do have a Cellink Neo battery for my car that can in fact power this up. Currently I have to switch USB ports from my Car's USB to the Cellink Neo battery to charge over night. This is cumbersome, especially if I forget.
    I was hoping I could physically remove the battery, and then drill holes for wires that I can then connect the main board to the Cellink Neo battery. This Cellink Neo battery is fast charge when my car is on and it would keep the G7 I have alive -- a requirement I have so I can access it remotely at any time.
    Any idea on whether or not this could work? Your video did take me about half way there, knowing I can access the battery is very helpful. Thanks!

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I'm not sure. Would require both engineering knowledge and soldering skills if even possible. Not sure if a current from anything aside from what its battery gives would work to not fry the board or anything else. Also not sure how you would be able to wire to the connector, maybe to the battery leads since usually the batteries have a +/- that is connected to the head chip module that dictates the battery on how much to charge and such. But again removing that could lead to the battery overcharging or draining quickly. Again not too sure, I am not a professional in the electrical engineering of it so would not be able to give you a direct answer. If possible I would say would be difficult and require a lot of modification.

    Hello! I have a question. My phone is able to be charged but I can not currently turn it on due to the power button falling off, if I removed the battery and put it back together would that make it turn on? thanks in advance!

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, no it would not power the phone on but disconnecting and re connecting the battery. There should be a clicker on a flex cable where the actual physical button presses on. You should be able to use a tool to push in that clicker to power it on but keep in mind over time doing that would probably wear out that clicker or damage it.

    My speaker is weak and distorted, and a few people tell me they can barely hear my so I need to try to clean my speaker and mic. Any tips on doing that? My charging port is a loose too and doesn't always connect. Are the mic and charging port on the same board? If so, maybe I should just replace that.
    I need to order screwdrivers. Yours is T4 but another place says Phillips. Any idea why?
    What thickness is your guitar pick?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, yes both the mic and charger port are on the same sub board on bottom. If you are replacing that sub board, make sure to get the correct version for your model phone, since different region versions might have different antenna point/contacts which might give you some signal issues. Also some aftermarket ones are known to have signal issues. You can check mobiledefenders.com to see if they carry this part since they usually carry OEM stuff for Motorola. Also brush off the mic hole on bottom to make sure its not clogged causing your voice not to be heard. As for the speaker/ear speaker, the filter might have gotten clogged/dirty causing sound issues. You may need to clean that somehow or replace the filter but those filters usually aren't easy to find and sometimes require prying the screen off as well to replace the mesh filter. As for the screws, they should be T4 torx screws unless a different region of the device uses different type of screws but highly doubt it.

    • @jbw9999
      @jbw9999 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PBKreviews Thank you for the information. I tried blowing real hard on the speaker, and tried holding a vacuum cleaner up to it, but neither worked. I'm thinking there's dirt on the back side of the mesh that I could remove if I open the phone. Also in another video, I think it shows a small filter attached to the mesh (inside phone) that catches stuff and could be replaced, or just removed and not used if that's what causes problems.
      Motodefenders doesn't show that they sell that board for it. They do have the separate charging port and speaker, but not sure how hard those are to replace, and they don't sell the mic. Hopefully cleaning inside will solve the sound problems. My charging port isn't too bad.
      I'm not positive but the problems seemed to start after I wiped the phone with a wet cloth, but that was weeks ago and it's still happening.
      BTW, I have the G7 Power US version.

    Hi. Just wondering, I have two of these phones. One has a damaged backlight, so I can't see or press anything. Other just has cracked screen. If I just switch out the main boards, will I be able to regain access to everything on previous phone?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assuming that the backlight issue is directly from the screen itself and not the board (in most cases it is the screen itself but sometimes water damage or physical damage can cause the board to be the one that is faulty) then yes you would be able to take the main board and swap it with the other screen to be able to use the working screen on that board and get your info from it.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Them not being able to hear you and you not being able to hear them are two separate issues so they would not be related to one problem. You probably did not assemble the phone correctly or damaged something while taking it apart. The mic you speak into is located on the bottom board with the charger port, and the earpiece speaker is on the top of the phone on the midframe. The plastic cover that goes over the motherboard needs to be in place and screwed down properly or it wont touch and make contact with the earpiece speaker for it to function. Did you replace just the screen or the screen with midframe assembly?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it would be a replacement issue. You can try taking the back off (which would require new adhesive to re install) and making sure the bottom and top plastic covers are in place and screwed down since those have antenna lines running through them. If not, the only other thing I can think of is its possible they have changed tower frequencies or bands in your area or a certain tower is out of service or they changed the position of one of the towers to send signal in a different direction more which sometimes happens.

Also can be a defective screen, or a short somewhere causing the screen not to function properly. Before putting the screen in place, try connecting the cable only and see if the touch works. If it works and when you seat the screen in place and it stops working, it means something on the screen is touching the metal frame and shorting. If it still doesn't work might just be a defective screen.

    I think i need to clean my speaker cuz after my phone got 100% submerged in melted ice cream, the speaker sounds distorted. I tried cleaning the mesh with electric toothbrush and rubbing alcohol to no avail.
    If i take back off to get to the speaker, will the original adhesive be enough to keep the back on when i re assemble it?

    Do I need to go into the back if I'm only replacing the glass?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, because the glass is glued to the screen and you would need to disconnect the screen cable from the main board to be able to pry off the old screen assembly and install the new assembly. You would need to be able to put the cable for the new screen through the midframe and reattach it to the board. Basically you can't just replace the glass. Factories or people with special machines and experience would be able to replace just the glass touch screen but that would still require you to take off the whole screen assembly to be able to disconnect the touch glass cable from the screen assembly. Hope this info helps

    Can you use this phone going straight talk Verizon non AT&t Straight talk Verizon

    • @mattdavis9601
      @mattdavis9601 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can. I wouldn't though because Straight Talk sells a rebadged version of the G7 Power known as the Optimo Maxx. They're the same identical phone with all the Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mo radios/bands available. I'm typing this comment on one. They're usually about 30-50% cheaper than buying an unlocked Power and if you're on Straight Talk service for more than a year they'll unlock it for free anyway. So you're throwing your money away buying an unlocked Power for Straight Talk use. Buy the Moto G7 Optimo Maxx instead.

    Can I just replace the battery without messing with the circuit boards?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      your going to have to remove the back plate, then unscrew the top cover to reveal the motherboard so you can disconnect the battery cable from the board but aside from that, you don't need to remove the main board or anything else. At the point you can pry off the old battery and apply the new one and reverse the process. Just be careful when prying the battery, don't warp it too much or puncture it so it catches fire etc. You can use a hair dryer to gently warm up the adhesive under the battery to help make it a bit easier when prying and use a membership card or credit card you don't need to gently get it under the battery from the sides or bottom and work your way under it to help pry it off. Hope this info helps.

      Make sure the black plastic pieces that are screwed down are in place correctly and screwed in properly because if they are not making contact with the points on the boards, they might cause you to have service issues since the antenna lines run through them. Also make sure all cables are properly connected and nothing is loose. If all those check out, its possible you might have damaged a chip or something on the board when taking it apart? Not sure.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would require you to pry the screen off as well, to be able to gain access to the power button flex cable and buttons themselves. You might need to replace the flex cable with clickers on them if your button is not clicking or registering anymore. If its stuck because liquids or other stuff made the button sticky, you may need to clean it out with a brush after you take it apart to make sure its not sticky anymore.

    • @PBKreviews

      If the phone has water damage, its possible something is being shorted on the board causing that to happen. If not, make sure the camera is connected properly to the main board and has not come loose. Also make sure the plastic cover that has the flash on it is seated properly in place and screwed down because the contacts need to touch the board to be able to give it power. If your camera still doesn't work its possible you have a defective camera and might need to purchase a replacement camera to replace with the defective one.

    Time to buy a new cell phone, my Samsung S4 is 7 years old. Want a phone where I can replace the battery, with the S4, use my finger nail to pop off the back, pop out the old battery in and pop in the new one. Can carry two charged batteries in my shirt pocket and good to go. Really like my last Motorola cell phone, also that easy to replace the battery and we even had an external charger. Apple, have to send in your phone with 50 bucks or use a heat gun, you take the risk and the battery is still 50 bucks.
    Looks like this G7, is time consuming, and should also use electrostatic hand grounded protection. Surprised Motorola made this more complicated. Would not try this at an airport while waiting for a plane. But fine on my electronic workbench.

      @PBKreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well you need to do everything else to get to the point of removing the battery. You can't remove the battery without taking apart the phone to a certain extent. Once you disconnect the battery cable from the main board, All you need to do is use a hair dryer and apply some heat over the battery and back of the phone to loosen up the adhesive under the battery (don't apply too much heat you don't want to damage it), then use a membership card or credit card and start working your way in and underneath the battery to gently pry it off. Try your best to not warp the battery too much (even though it will work a little when your prying it off) so you don't short it. Apply heat as needed and just take your time and it will come off. Then just take your new battery and put it in and press down on the original adhesive and it should hold then re-assemble.
