The reason I love this guy’s music so much isn’t because of how technical (which it is, it’s just not fast, it’s a deeper level) yet because he puts his soul into every song. When the music tempo leads to a solo you can literally see the beast within start to want out and Gary almost goes into a trance like state where all of his inner emotions are being payed out from his guitar. That’s the spiritual part of music. I feel that and if you’re not feeling the music then what’s the point. This guys seriously one of if no the best guitarist of this generation
Nothing technical about his playing. He’s a scale player. Don’t get me wrong, he’s good but not great. His vocal delivery is his greatest asset. Relies on effects way too much & dorks out a lot on the same note for too long when he takes a solo
@@stephenhanlin2388 you don’t understand his style. While metal-ish players focus on technical skills, this guys focusing on the feel the notes give. While yeah you’re right about his voice being a huge asset, his guitar is also adding onto that. Which in turn, is the basis of what the blues is. It’s all about the feel.

I found Gary Clark Jr. by sheer accident. Saw a movie called Chef in which the characters stop their food truck in Texas and GCJ and band was playing at a restaurant/venue. I was stunned. Fantastic talent!
Good Lord this was a strait up murder scene on the guitar. A gosh darn triple homicide. He made that thing walk like, like a camel. I remember listening to this for the first time in like 2015 or something I come back here many times throughout the year, just to hear this beautiful masterpiece every time I hear it it makes me want to play the guitar and learn how to play. I don't play an instrument anymore but when I was in school I played the clarinet and the flute and I was definitely musically inclined I was able to change the music and put my own twist on things. I would usually be in my head so far ahead of the song that I could just breathe my soul into it. So I really see how this song makes you feel is because he put that feeling into his guitar in his performance. It's an unexplainable feeling when you're able to speak a language that has no words and express yourself not just through the body but with the body and the soul and the spirit simultaneously. The same feeling I get when I'm surfing or skimboarding or longboarding and I'm cutting and carving and just expressing my whole essence through my movements and through My soul and Spirit. Human beings are a mysterious and amazing part of God's creation.
One evening when Gary Clark Jr was a teen he was with a girl and they were, of course, listening to some classic blues as they were sitting on the couch. Things started to heat up with some kissing and touching. The girl was getting into things as the guitar player started in on his solo. Her breathing was faster and she was squirming as Gary moved to second base. The guitar cried out as the girl started to make noises of her own. Gary rounded third and was about to slide into home base when.... The guitar solo ended and the mood was broken. The girl got self conscious and made an excuse to head home... the solo was too short. Gary swore in his heart that if he ever made it big he would NEVER let that happen to anyone listening to his music. And I want to say: Thank you Gary, thank you for giving us these long ass sweet love making solos that don't leave us blue balled.
From like 7:30-10, GCJr. was in another fucking galaxy! I don't even have words for playing like that. It's inspired; it's pure energy; it's otherwordldly. Everyone who saw that happen, man.. be grateful. Not everyone gets to see someone just take that step, it's like Peter stepping out of the boat... for a brief moment, God calls, and something in us answers. Andrew Gould Another thing, even if Dan or any other guitarrist hits a bad note, that doesn't "screw up" the solo, at all. And I hope you're not one of those noobs who thinks that because he plays the solo differently live than what is on the album, then he's ruining it. Seriously TH-cam, if you want someone to absolutely hate whatever product you’re hawking, put it’s ad right in the middle of a song video. That’ll do it every time.
Its not the technicality thats impressive. Its the feel. The way he feeds of the music, then puts the energy back in makes for the amazing climb throughout the solo. This is as much a guitar and a life lesson as it is a great song
This goes hard! Such a simple rhythm guitar progression, but that is all he needs... the vocals take it from there! Great blues musician... so much of that old school influence with a modern songwriting twist. His vibrato is to die for...
Tom Howland thank god. There are enough SRVaughabees out here already and SRV just took from Albert and Otis and added crazy clothes on a white boy and a tube screamer.

NO I was not sorry for the a cidental post3
ITS all about the FEEL, not 100 mph sanitised note perfect playing, and as far as feel and depth are concerned this guy has it in abundance, love it, great voice as well!!!
my dad died and he loves this song
Seriously TH-cam, if you want someone to absolutely hate whatever product you’re hawking, put it’s ad right in the middle of a song video. That’ll do it every time.
Its not the technicality thats impressive. Its the feel. The way he feeds of the music, then puts the energy back in makes for the amazing climb throughout the solo. This is as much a guitar and a life lesson as it is a great song
amen
@@brandonterzic ITS DA FEEL, CADILLAC BABY MFING CADILLAC
BET THEY ALL HAD BE MFING FORCED TO LEAVE
May still be there
"I don't believe in competition
Ain't nobody else like me around
I don't need your imposition
It ain't that hard to figure it out"
You are playing my favorite guitar an I am 63 years young!
robbin bazinet this is a 1961 les paul ✌🏼
Excellent
This man is somebody to watch! Raw talent that you rarely see these days! 😍😍
Incredible. Nuff said
what a great drummer! ;-)
he's alright but he looks like a cool down to earth guy
+Gioele Serena- I agree
I was in a reggae band with him when I lived in Austin! For real. Johnny. One of the coolest cats on the planet.
***** cool man! ;-)
I think he looks like Booger from Revenge of the Nerds.
This drummer is one of the only people that seems to stay in tune with his improv. well done
This goes hard! Such a simple rhythm guitar progression, but that is all he needs... the vocals take it from there! Great blues musician... so much of that old school influence with a modern songwriting twist. His vibrato is to die for...
I love it when a musician can make an instrument SING. Gary Clark Jr, You did THAT BOI!!! 🥰😎😍
You guys just straight-up killed that jam
Man, ignore the more negative comments, great job to everyone in this video! True talent all around, well done Mr. Clark.
I'm digging this. Tight band. Gary gets a bad wrap. Lots of soul, and truth going on here.
We all can't be SRV.
Tom Howland thank god. There are enough SRVaughabees out here already and SRV just took from Albert and Otis and added crazy clothes on a white boy and a tube screamer.
Greenwood Mills wow.... just wow
Only SRV can be SRV. Ok, Buddy Guy can also be SRV, but hell, he's Buddy Guy, he can be anyone he wants.
@Greenwood Mills I would be willing to bet that you couldn't play SRV's
guitar for 5 minutes without having to soak your hand in epsome salts.
elbis nopserton let me guess you could? Man no one gives a shit about all the SRV folklore, heavy strings and all that except you Vaughanabees. FOH.
Magic in that van! Love what you all do!
Dude is fucking bad man !
Gary is his own man and badass in his own right.
7:30.... And the guitar manifested into a raging beast that nearly set the whole van on fire 🎸🔥
The Real Deal! Wow. Speechless.
soooo good! and it gets better the more you listen to it. Hallmark of a great tune. Can't wait for more from these guys.
Gary Clark Jr, is raw, but I love it! Then he and that bad a"* band of his in a van. At 65 years old and retired music educator, rocks me❤
This is the best music show on the planet!
Love, love, love this. Love his voice and the calm energy in this song. Def. some talent here!!
this is my FAVORITE Jam in the van & Gary c. jr SESSION.
Gary's the man!
Going round between all music and then come up to this genius.....mannnn! one more fan to this guitarist.
