- For this Horn Karaoke, I decided to play a Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri. It is a beautiful, heart wrenching song and it lays in a perfect range for the Horn!
There are a few simple, haunting harmonies toward the middle and end, so I decided to play some duet action on this one! Also, I added some photos to the mix to break the monotony of me playing at you the whole time!
This one , like most of my other Karaoke videos, I learned by ear, so unfortunately don't have the music for it. (Sorry in advance)!

without any cracks or anything, you effortlessly slurred from a g at the bottom of the staff to a high g at 2:36, that's incredible

@@hankkirby5386 yeah, the best way to improve is to find some easy sheet music of songs, and just keep going up in difficulty level. Or, at least the least painful way to improve.

I was working on "Let it Go" because my daughter loves that song. However, this is one of my favorites and you did such a nice job with it she may have to wait a bit longer while I learn this one now.
BTW I'm very jealous of the Conn 8D I saw in your other videos. Mine doesn't have the awesome customization yours does. ;)

Your sound is majestic I think, have you tried variations of more the two that would sound so awesome I think.
This is my fourth year playing french horn and I plan on going to Arkansas Tech University after highschool to become a band director. I am obsessed with the french horn and I practice all night evey night of the week, except for Mondays and Wednesdays because I have archery, but I LOVE your videos. You sound amazing and I am so close to sounding that way myself. I have been first chair since I was in Junior High. I have been dying to ask you this question, "how do you use vibrato while playing the french horn?", because since I am first chair, I want to be able to include vibrato in my solos in whole notes.

Emi - I play a Patterson Custom Horn, but played a Conn 8D for years. I struggled with music too when I started. I'm so glad I stuck with it though, because it is too much fun to do this for a living! Good luck with everything!

This is amazing I'm in 8th grade and have been playing the French horn for 2 years and when I feel like I'm doing really bad I live to listen to your TH-cam I've tried to show other people but they think I'm stupid. I inspire to be as good as you when I and older.. any tips? And how long have you been playing
Desiree Zahn - It's comments like yours that inspire ME to record more of these tunes! Anyone who tries to make you feel stupid for loving to listen to and play a beautiful instrument is not worth your time! The horn and music has made my life full and given me many opportunities, it can do the same for you someday if you put time into what you love doing! Best of luck to you, and as for playing advice, what you put into it is what you get out of it! Listen to great playing often, practice and play songs you love by ear as well as things you are assigned in band and finally, take pride in what you do! Not many people can say they play a beautiful instrument like ours, so make it your thing and own it!

Hi Chris, I've been playing for about three years and need a new mouth piece. What would you recommend? My current range is low C In the Bass staff and high A above the staff. I want something that will allow my to keep the range but with good tone, but also free lip movement so I can change notes with out having to fight for it. Any recommendations?
+supermachflite - There are several that I would recommend- Warburton CC 14, Gidding and Webster Boston Brass model, or Laskey 85GW. Those all have somewhat medium cups and wider diameter rims. Good luck!
