- My absolute favorite Christmas song! I recorded this with the Karaoke track in the style of Josh Groban, who I have also had the pleasure of playing for... and yes, I stole that lick at the end from Wayne Bergeron! I included a few pictures that I thought were majestic looking to fit the mood of the song... I hope you like it!

Me too. I played the horn in high school, and haven't played since (Class of '59). It is still my favorite instrument, and this is my favorite Christmas carol. What a gifted musician.

I almost did pick mine up again. But... my life is different now... and after 15 years I know quite well that I couldn't do justice to this... One needs to know when it's best to be silent and just let your inner soul sing from all your heart... Because in there, in our hearts we can still play it with him...

that was a beautiful composition, i personally play the french horn as my main instrument. it is very impressive that you can make those pitches and notes and do then correctly.

Well done mate. I'm glad to see that no one has given you the thumbs down. I've recently dug my horn out of the loft after over six years of absence. Having watched your video I feel both inspired and deflated. I'm struggling trying to sustain a top line F at the moment, but to be fair on myself I'm only on my 3rd week.
Glad you are back at it! Don't feel deflated, if I put down the horn for that long and only just picked it back up 3 weeks ago, I would not be able to play those note for sure!

I have always wanted to make an arrangement of this and Ave Maria. The 2 melodies in counterpoint to each other, in my mind, make for a great call and response duet. Ty for the performance.
I think that sometimes you get over-shadowed in boston brass by Jose Sibaja because of the nature of each of your instruments and the fact that Jose is amazing; but for those who listen carefully, hearing you play is a real treat. Keep up the awesome videos!

What sheet music did you use? I'm attempting to do this myself. At 74 yeas of age it will be challenging. Especially for those high notes. I love this version. You nailed it.

I stumbled upon this and was absolutely BLOWN AWAY with tears. This was phenomenal! Amazing job! I'm also a Horn player too! Do you have any tips to get better in the higher register? Like C-C#? :)
Ryan Atchison, do some lips slurs from like middle F to top F, or shoot it down an octave. But lip slurs help tremendously for building up the muscle and helping getting up to the high register.

Nerdygurl 2505 - welcome to playing the horn! My suggestion to you is to listen to as many horn players as possible and get a great concept of what you want to sound like! And practice! Good luck with the horn:)
What key are you playing this in? I usually play it in the key of Eb but yours is much higher.

Why did you stop playing your Conn 8D, it sounds so warm! Did yamaha make you just play their Geyer wrap?
I do love the 8D but I chose the Geyer wrap - it projects much better than the 8D and plays very nicely. I am working with Yamaha on a Kruspe horn.
Do you think it would be possible to achieve something similar to the Kruspe sound with more projection? I understand what you mean, the Geyer horn seems easier to play (especially in the high range) and cuts through the orchestra with a lower dynamic due to its brightness. But the Kruspe tone to my ear is smoother, warmer and captures more of the traditional sound of a horn (the darkness of the natural horn versus the trumpet like sound of some european players).

Was this a double or triple horn? I can't see the tubing very well, so I'm not sure. I wanna say double horn, but ya know, it could be a triple. Especially with that high D you played.... It was pretty glorious, and extremely hard to pull off.
