Honestly it wouldve been so easy to play Stede off as a naive, innocent and sheltered fool but Rhys adds so many layers to him. Stede is such an over-the-top character with his theatrical movements and trilling voice that he really stands out as a main character, and I particularly love the moments where he's less "gentleman-like", like when he loses his temper and his confrontations with Izzy. If you follow Rhys' social media you'd know how much of a dad he is, and I love that that part of him bled into Stede's character. He's just a silly man finally getting to live out his dreams and making a family for himself, and I'm so terribly endeared by it
I love how Stede really behaves like a father to his misfit crew. And they all behave like little brats fighting but then getting along once they realize he's trying to give them a healthy environment to live in.
It's fair to say, at this point, we all showed up to this series for Blackbeard (I mean, be honest. Taika Waititi in leather with that salt and pepper hair/bun...We are all.in love) but we all stayed for Stede. What a precious bean.~💕
