Me: * sees you grab usnea off a branch * Me: * gets really excited because I’ve been taking a tincture of it for a sinus infection and it’s been working so much better than antibiotics * It’s such a wonderful lichen to work with. There’s truth in the words “whatever we need, nature has provided right outside our doorstep” because I was drawn to usnea right before I got sick and learned later that it’s great for sinus infections.
I live on Whidbey island and it grows so abundantly here. I would enjoy making my own tincture, but I still have a bit to learn before I delve into that
I am an old swamp hag, collecting and processing herbal medicinal for years. I was mistakenly told by my old mentor (who has long since passed over to the other realms)that usnea did not grow in Michigan. Your video perked my curiosity, and in researching it, I now know that it does indeed grow here. It is found in the Thuja (cedar trees) bogs by the Great Lakes. Fortunately, I live very close to one of the best areas to find it, I just haven't been looking for it. I'm excited to add it to my list of foragable goodies!
I always get a very peaceful College of Winterhold vibe from your videos. It's such a nice escape from the trash state of the world, kind of how playing Skyrim can be. 💝
I just wanted to add, thank you for mentioning that your concoctions don't always come out as planned. When you mentioned that something of yours molded, I almost had a moment of relief. I've had many things mold in the past and consider them quite devastating failures, for the lack of results or the waste of resources. But ultimately we can't learn if we do not fail! Somehow knowing that your stuff can mold too give me the permission to be human and accept that these things happen to everyone!
It does my soul good to see your body language show your feeling better then the last time. Your a special soul and your calm and steadfast ways have calmed me in the years of watching you.
This is the type of video I adore. Learning about herbs and infusions, tinctures and salves, is awe-inspiring. And that scenery is beyond beautiful. Such a miracle to have such beauty around.
I really love how you've really put your money where your mouth is in terms of sharing your knowledge and craft with us as you've said! It's amazing and it's SO VERY appreciated! Thank you, Annie! ♥️
That opening shot of the mountain stream was absolutely breathtaking... and the whole video had the feel of much of your older work (in a very positive way). Methinks the lady is once again finding her groove... :-)
I love your outfit, and your videos are very encouraging for as I am a young new witch still trying to learn the ropes and you have guided me so much and teaching that learning from myself and learning my way around the craft and how I'd like to practice it is very much what I needed and your video on your other page and how it's ok to be lost and that I will always be learning new things, I can not way to make my own path and learn new ways to express myself. Thank you very much Annabel you are amazing!
Oh my gosh how I’ve been waiting and watching for another one of these videos. Your videography is phenomenal. How beautiful the opening was. Such a great teaching on this tincture Annie. Thank You 😊♥️✨
You seem to be back in bloom just like the plants around you. I’m glad you seem more content and fulfilled. You deserve to have that passion ignited again. 💚
I'm so glad that you taught about "Old Man's Beard". I have it in the trees on and around my property and I've long been fascinated by it but didn't know what it was our how to use it. Now I do! I also am eager to see the salve made from the Cleaver, rose petals and calendula as I have those in my yard too. Thanks so much and congratulations on reaching 100,000 subscribers.
Oh my- that is some peak nature right there. The rock between the two waterfalls you filmed looks like an ancient tree covered in lichens and moss. Also, your apartment is beautiful in dim light! You showed it for a brief moment there and it seems so cozy! Thank you so much as always for your videos, they are so calming and magical! I’m glad you’re doing well :) (PS: thank you for listing out the specific music you used in the description. Often I want to steal some for my playlists!)
I might be mistaken but you seem a lot happier in your new apartment. I see more of the old Annie coming back, but happier. I think in person your whole aura would be quite lovely and bright too. I’m not a spiritual person or anything I just couldn’t think of another word to use lol…. Great video, glad to see you thriving again.
I love that mystic feeling I get when watching your videos. Magic is everywhere, you just have to open your eyes for it. And I do it a lot when I am in nature. I hope someday my TH-cam channel will also be as popular as yours is. Love, Arthur.
I grew up in Alaska. We used usnea tinctures and teas For infections and antibiotic and anti finger needs. My mom went to school for herbal and naturopathic medicine and focused on Alaska’s native medicinal plants
Annabel! You bright & shining light, thank you for all you do! May I request a topic? I would love to see some tips & advice on adding herbs to your everyday eating routine. I have trouble coming up with breakfast, lunch & dinner ideas - could you recommend any or share what your staples are? A million thank yous! 🙏💛✨️
These came out beautifully!! I like to put a mason jar ring underneath my oil jar when I’m doing a hot infusion, which helps with burning if you forget about it 😅
Just beautiful Annie. The twin waterfall footage cascading down the mountain was stunning. I hope you do go back to that area and get more of the raw beauty. You are an amazing cinematographer in addition to your herbalism talents. Thank you so much for sharing all of your amazing talents with this Community. Congrats on the 100K Subscriber mark. !! ✨💫
I love the aspect of the Craft that prioritizes self-empowernent, the control we can enact on our lives, the things we can take responsibility for and the power we have. Feels like you might be leaning the channel into that too, which is nice.
Beautiful video, that waterfall looks like double ribbons coming down the mountain. It's so beautiful up North, I miss it so! Love watching you make your tinctures and infusions, so relaxing. 💕
I love these videos about herbal remedies. I have made a few salves and oxymels in the past, but I haven't experimented with the amount of herbs for potency, different extraction methods (dry/fresh & hot/cold) or anything like that. So it's great get a deeper understanding of crafting those remedies. Also: The part you filmed in nature reminded me of Skyrim. (I haven't played since December, seeing this forrest and the waterfall kinda made me miss the game ;) )
Thank you for showing us the beauty and significance of this rare herb. I'm thankful you speak of ethics and share your truth and respect to our plant allies and how to properly treat them. I adore your videos, they truly bring a joy to me like no other content creator has! You are an inspiration! Thank you for sharing your time, your magic, you're learning, and yourself with all of us! Your b-roll was immaculate! I feel as though I'm watching a masterpiece each time I click on a video. ☺️😘💕✨
Being you make tinctures, there was some kind of outfit where you could buy straight ethanol.from, but I can't recall who it was, but it was cheaper for this kind of thing. There is those that sell moonshine stills. Where I think making alcohol distilled has been relaxed. Still need a federal.permit if you're wanting legal. Last I recall 200 gallons of beer, 100 gallons of wine was legal by itself, ethyl alcohol distilled, a fed permit was needed. Where you could make your alcohol for tinctures, which can make them taste better, or infusions. Not to mention extraction. I should mention I think it came in larger quantity, like 5 gallons, 10 and such
Such a beautiful video once again, I'm just starting my journey in tinctures and I'm so thankful I can watch you. Though I have different plants as an English witch I'm still loving watching how you practice xx
What kind of alcohol did you use for this tincture? Congrats on the 100K subscribers! PLUS, I’m so excited for you because you’ve got your mojo back… your excitement is palpable.
I love the trees and the waterfall they where so beautiful to see and I hope that you film there again, and I love how you explain what you are doing you make it so easy to understand and to do!!!!!!!
I appreciate you sharing your processes and knowledge with us. I recently moved from Ontario to Nova Scotia and have discovered a whole new world of foraging and wild edibles and plant medicine. I noticed the abundance of usnea immediately, because I'd never seen it before in Ontario. It is amazing and fascinating, I can't wait to craft a tincture with it.
I M HEaDED YOUR Way Gurl!!! PNW Is the Most Beautiful Place I ve Ever been!!! My Southern Louisiana Daughter Moved There 8 yrs ago to Be with a man. (long story there) But She s Expecting 2nd Ittle Boy They l be a Year apart 😨 BUt LOVE MY TIME Visiting😆
I love the mountains and her run off spring summer waters from the snow melt. I have seen allot of old mans beard and it long lengths coming off the trees, I use to use a small little bit to start my small camp fire to cook. unfortunately i dont remember what my grandparents taught me about old mans beard they used to use it for a few things ,which again I dont remember it was decades ago and well its the if you dont use it you will lose it thing t
I have been wanting these kind of videos. I have felt an overwhelming urge to can, grow and use herbs for medicinal reasons as well as foraging. Seems like we are All feeling the need to have this information.
Aw this is beautiful Annabelle. So happy you have found your passion for this again. Love, love, loved this video and always look forward to the next. Have a beautiful week. 🌿☀️🌿
Your videos are always so beautifully shot and relaxing to watch. I love watching you work with your hands; everything you do is done with intention. I'm so glad you rediscovered your inspiration and have a renewed sense of purpose 💚
Beautiful nature! Your filming is incredible 😊 I was wondering what the Usnea tincture is used for ? Love your salve making videos also.I would like to see a salve making video for a pain salve for aches and pains if you feel like it sometime. Thank you Annie 💚💚You are such a Joy ! Much love and many Blessings ! 💚💚💛💛🙏🙏
Loved this video! Excited to see the cleaver rose calendula oil video next :) While canine buddies might not be the best company for taking b-roll, I'd personally prefer if you still brought them on your journey, for protection from animals and other people. I know it's highly unlikely, but your safety is top priority! I hope it's not too selfish of me to suggest this, I just had the thought pop up suddenly and it made me worry.
Weights are really great for the situation she had with the usnea. When the weight/volume formula gets tricky with fluffy herbs like usnea, mullein, etc. the best solution is to chop it as finely as possible, then add the weight to the top to completely submerge the plant material in the menstruum. A clean rock is great, but they also make round glass weights specifically for mason jars, which are nice because they're not porous like rocks can be.
Would you be able to tell me what the benefit is to doing a hot infusion after a traditional or sunny window infusion as opposed to just allowing the herb and oil mixture to sit longer? Thank you!
Usnea is fun to work with but I've never tinctured it - just steams and infusions (which then went into salves and soap - not sure if any of the good properties really survived saponification but it's fun to try!)
When do you do a hot infusion? Is it always beneficial and/or preferable? I’ve never seen this in addition to the regular weeks-long infusions, only instead of.
I like your kitchen scales and I need one. Where did you find it or what kind is it. The ones I have been seeing are just cheap ones. I want one that is at least close to accurate. Lol as opposed to the quality of a toy or decoration.
Just a small nit-picky correction but usnea is a lichen and not an herb. I've been collecting fallen usnea for a few seasons now and am glad I now know what to do with it! Thanks for this.
did you switch eventually to the folk method as the alcohol in the first place didn't cover the material. I have that a lot when I have to use the 1 : 5 method or I have to powder the material and that has other challenges ....
The alcohol should be safe to ingest. Any type of very high proof, clear alcohol should work. Annabel left a reply to a comment saying she uses 100+ proof everclear.
Find someone who looks at you the way Annie looks at usnea 😂💛

I have chronic sinus infection. I would buy it by the quart! Lol

Usnea is a wonderful antiviral. Great to help our immune systems in these crazy times.
as always, love your videos. beautifully filmed and narrated. i enjoy learning about these herbs and tinctures.
For chopping herbs you might try a two handle chopping knife. I think it called a mezzaluna
Yoooo, that drone work is sweet!! Hooooly smokes, this is a gorgeous video.
They always are, though. I have such love for your channels.
Truly beautiful scenery! Love your vids. Well done Annabel
So what is the moss you're working with do?

Thank you for sharing this. I don’t think we have that herb in the uk…. Not as far as I know. It reminded me of sheep wool and the colour was magical
😭😭😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️
I wanna live in such a beautiful place someday
I always love going to the mountains.

I had batches of herbs not dry properly. It's heartbreaking and beyond frustrating. I'm so glad some of your herbs survived!
Are those rings on your fingers? Or are they some type of brace? Either way their absolutely beautiful!
I love the mountains and her run off spring summer waters from the snow melt.

Have you tried the alcohol intermediary oil process for salves? It extracts a lot more medicine.
I have been wanting these kind of videos. I have felt an overwhelming urge to can, grow and use herbs for medicinal reasons as well as foraging. Seems like we are

Wow! Just wow! All of it, Annie. Thank you for another wonderful video. ✨💖✨
Congrats on reaching the 100,000 subscribers, Annie
The twin waterfall footage in the beginning of the video is so calming to watch
Aw this is beautiful Annabelle. So happy you have found your passion for this again. Love, love, loved this video and always look forward to the next. Have a beautiful week. 🌿☀️🌿
I harvested some tree sap today to make a salve....

Congratulations on 100k!! 🎉🍾 That waterfall in the beginning of the video was magnificent!
Lovely video. Do you ever use weights (clean rock) to hold down the herbs in a tincture, like how you use them in fermenting?
Weights are really great for the situation she had with the usnea. When the weight/volume formula gets tricky with fluffy herbs like usnea, mullein, etc. the best solution is to chop it as finely as possible, then add the weight to the top to completely submerge the plant material in the menstruum. A clean rock is great, but they also make round glass weights specifically for mason jars, which are nice because they're not porous like rocks can be.
It looks so much like moss! 🙂
Congrats on 100K!!!
❤❤❤❤❤
Would you be able to tell me what the benefit is to doing a hot infusion after a traditional or sunny window infusion as opposed to just allowing the herb and oil mixture to sit longer? Thank you!

When do you do a hot infusion? Is it always beneficial and/or preferable? I’ve never seen this in addition to the regular weeks-long infusions, only instead of.
Do you ever harvest tree sap? I wonder what's the best way to do that without getting all sappy.
I don't drink & take alcohol, it would great if you can talk about the alternative.. I been use Glycerin and vinegar, and they work well..
I like your kitchen scales and I need one. Where did you find it or what kind is it. The ones I have been seeing are just cheap ones. I want one that is at least close to accurate. Lol as opposed to the quality of a toy or decoration.
Your videos on this channel are so relaxing ! A real breath of fresh air !
Me watching this: haha that moss looks like an old man's beard
Annabel: this is old man's beard
Just a small nit-picky correction but usnea is a lichen and not an herb. I've been collecting fallen usnea for a few seasons now and am glad I now know what to do with it! Thanks for this.
Sorry I call everything herbs and I did make sure specify it as a lichen in the video. I appreciate the note though!
⚡CONGRATULATIONS ANNIE💯
✌🏽❤🙏
What are the scissors called you use to chop your herbs?
did you switch eventually to the folk method as the alcohol in the first place didn't cover the material. I have that a lot when I have to use the 1 : 5 method or I have to powder the material and that has other challenges ....
What kind of alcohol did you use with the usnea? Was it rubbing alcohol or something that can be ingested? Very good video. Thank you.
The alcohol should be safe to ingest. Any type of very high proof, clear alcohol should work. Annabel left a reply to a comment saying she uses 100+ proof everclear.
Blend it in the vitamix. It works better.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
when cleaning off herbs etc for tinctures and the like, is distilled or purified water necessary or is tap water okay?
I've always just used tap water
@@AnnabelMargaretGreen awesome, thanks! My overthinking new to crafting brain wanted to be sure 😅
could you grind it into a powder for a tincture?.. or is that too fine?
that is a great option! The finer the herb the better
@@AnnabelMargaretGreen good to know. Thanks for the reply
💚🍀
What alcohol did you use for the tincture?
I used everclear but you can use any high proof alcohol. As long as it is 100 proof or higher it'll work well
