    Great rundown, thanks man! I rented the Tamron 35-150 a week ago and found that it's not parfocal (focus gets lost a bit when zooming). However, my 70-200mm is parfocal (it maintains focus perfectly no matter how much I zoom in or out, or how quickly). Did you find the same to be true? If so, how did you work around that limitation?

    • @BeyondTheGame_E
      @BeyondTheGame_E  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MarkReese are you sure that it’s not simply the autofocus that is better on the 70-200mm? Because, as far as I know (I could be wrong), none of the photography lenses are parfocal. Only cinema lenses are.

      @@BeyondTheGame_E - Could be. Although we say 'parfocal' refers to a lens that keeps focus when the focal length is changed, I actually don't know if the definition is based on using AF-S mode, AF-C mode, or both. Do you?

      @BeyondTheGame_E  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MarkReese A lens is actually parfocal when it can keep the focus through your focal length changes while the autofocus is OFF. That's kind of the whole point. Otherwise, all the work is done in camera and not in the lens. Again, I'm not an expert on that topic but that's my understanding.

    After watching this video and a few others, I'm still on the fence.
    I've been using the Tamron 28-75mm and 70-180mm combo for about a year now, for everything from events to sports to interviews. The biggest bottleneck has been needing to switch lenses on a dime when the action moves from far away to something close, and the 70-180 just cant get wide enough. and vice versa.
    For that reason I'm inching closer and closer to selling both for the 35-150mm, but like he mentioned, the weight is a big concern. I already get back pain after an hour and a half of holding my rig with a 28-75mm on it. cant imagine the fatigue of this beast. Also, does anyone have experience using the 35-150mm on gimbals? There's likely no way my Weebill S can stabilize that with a A7SIII, and I'd prefer to not have to upgrade my gimbal too since I love the compact form factor of the weebill.
    If anyone has made the same switch and is much happier because of it regardless of those couple tradeoffs, please let me know!

    • @BeyondTheGame_E
      @BeyondTheGame_E  ปีที่แล้ว

      Regarding the gimbal, I don't know the weight limit of this particular one but you would also need to consider extra weight at the back for better weight distribution. Otherwise the lens would probably make your rig too front heavy for a gimbal.

I shoot primarily basketball indoors and was hoping that the zoom range of 105 would be enough for both photos and videos in the long run, compared to a 24-70 or having to buy both a 24-70 and 70-200.

    I bought this lens to match with my FX30 to video indoor gymnastics meets and deal with poor lighting as well as variable distances on the events. I was pretty happy with it for the first meet. Video quality was great but the low aperture is something I need to learn to play with combined with auto focus and busy backgrounds. The shallower depth of field isn't very forgiving when trying to pick your subject out with a sea of background faces and people. A monopod went a long way towards helping with the weight.

    • @BeyondTheGame_E
      @BeyondTheGame_E  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's the type of situation where manual focus is really helpful. Or if you insist on using autofocus, you could disable face recognition, use a zone focus and keep you subject in that zone all the time.

    • @nerothe
      @nerothe ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeyondTheGame_E Those are the nuances I'm trying to learn. For beam and bar the manual focus would work great. Great video! Isn't the Tamron 35-150mm automatically a 53-225mm due to being filmed on your FX30 (APS-C) camera? Wouldn't the clear image zoom make it really 347mm on the far end? I was looking at this to pair with my Sony A1 for indoor basketball video and photos.

    • @BeyondTheGame_E
      @BeyondTheGame_E  ปีที่แล้ว

    • @BeyondTheGame_E
      @BeyondTheGame_E  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never used that one specifically but I would assume that it's just like the 18-200mm but with even more zoom range. And the downsides would be the exact same that I brought up in this video about the 18-200mm.

    • @ruthlessche
      @ruthlessche 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have the 18-300 on an A6000 that I use mainly for sports photography. It works real well, especially in bright daylight! I don't record videos too often with my a6000 but I took one of my son during a baseball game and it's crispy! Only downside is the stabilization isn't that great, especially since my lens is still new and the zoom ring is still kinda tight. So my little clip was shaky.
