      Nothing against IKEA, cool ideas. However, THINK about this while people just sheep back and accept the slave mentality. 1/3 OF OUR MONEY (TA X Do LLERS) THAT WAS SENT TO ANOTHER blue/yellow COUNTRY COULD HAVE PROVIDED EVERY SINGLE A MER ICAN $200,000.00!!! And that’s only 1/3. Imagine if all the that WE EARN went into THIS COUNTRY? No one would be forced to live in a shoebox! It’s outrageously absurd.

    I've never seen more judgy people than I have on ikea's challenge videos. Don't like the clutter? Don't put the stuff in your room. Don't like a certain piece of organization? Don't implement it in your home. Don't like the overall style? Cool, ya don't have to use it. Shitting on an entire design team because you personally don't like it is rude. Maybe you don't but other people might. The idea is for a person to use certain aspects from the video. The only argument that I've seen is them not putting the pieces in a link in the description. But they've made their own pieces in other videos that you can't buy at ikea, so it's purely a design video.

    Having spent most of my life in very small spaces, I know that these solutions would eventually be the problem. One of the worst thing about small space living is not the amount of possessions one has, it's surprising how much well planned storage can absorb. What is a problem is having to move things around before you can carry out a task. Eventually you stop doing things if it means having to rearrange your room in order to do it. For example, having to move other furniture in order to get the table set up, would eventually lead to meals on laps.
    From experience I know that it's possible to live well in small spaces, but this doesn't achieve it. Thankfully, I no longer have to worry about this. Since retirement, instead of downsizing as many do, I've upsized.

      Whenever I watch tiny houses documenter this exact thing always pop up in my mind. As much as I adore tiny homes and the ones on wheels, I don't think one day I'd want to actually live there once I have enough money to buy my own house (hehe). You see the thoughts of having to move things around, putting them in and putting them aside on daily basis stress me out. But still it amazes me how there many people out there who choose tiny homes because they actually like it and had invested their time, money and energy to build one.

    • @W11ngd
      @W11ngd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      That's exactly what I try to explain to everyone, i think it's just something mainstream right now and I believe nobody should have to live in such confined places. Bad thing is some people need to downsize for economical reasons and the worst part is ppl are making this look like a good thing when deep down it isn't in the long run..

    • @jjpp2216
      @jjpp2216 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      I have found quite the opposite. If you don’t give up in the early stages, you quickly get used to the flipping and folding out and just do it without even thinking about it, in 30 seconds. The best example is the much-maligned Murphy bed. It takes all of 10 seconds to fold it up each morning, so do it. But for some reason people imagine it to be a chore, don’t do it, and then spend their day moving around this albatross commanding most of the room. The same is true of gateleg tables-people will dance a plate on their lap for ½ hour because it’s too much work to unfold the table, a 20-second job (frankly it takes far longer to set the table).
      It becomes like putting away your laundry. If you just get used to doing it, you realize how minor the task was and before long don’t even think about it.

      Agree, always look at these types of videos and think, heck no, I'll get sick of this.. Especially if you have kids 😣 you should atleast have a desk that's not your dinning table too, even if it's small.
      I love that you could upsize! When you get older who wants to be moving things around because they don't have enough for everything!!
      Or have a 'cramped' space out of need instead of a place you love.. Everyone should be able to retire in a beautiful space.. So sad that many cannot.. and I'm scared for the future, these things are not sustainable into old age.. I often wonder what tiny house people will do when they too old to climb up to a loft bed, etc. 😱

    In my perspective as someone who stay at home often in my free time..
    The wrong part from all idea above is we need to move around object, because when at home I tend to become more lazy and moving things repetitively is burdensome activity that can make staying at home uncomfortable.
    I think..
    When you're in small room, it's better to optimize the amount of furniture that can be use for multi functions.

      @@Julia-ds1ye not really. There is better ways then these folding things. Probably won't get around it completely but you can definitely forget about rolling shelves and such. Praktical solutions that are affordable. For example, to use a chouch and bed in the same funiture. And to only have one table our long counter wehre you eat, cook and do computer work. Ideally hanging storage and the table beneath it. If you have odd corners you can buld or order special fit storage for those. And you don't need huge amounts of storage really. You need a vew places to put stuff but not that much. Eh. It all comes down to beeing creative. I think they clutterred the room.

      The problem is more the commodification of needing a place to live, rather than rich furniture retailers (but yes, commodification of needing stuff to functionally live in your house is also a problem IMO)

    I feel uncomfortable after watched this. If you could make it simpler with less furniture, why not? I prefer Japanese minimalist style 😌

      No. They are simply giving and idea for a small space living room. You can except it, come up with you own. IKEA is not telling you what to do

    Given that the world’s population over the next century is about to plummet, due to reduction in fertility small places like this might not be as necessary as they seem.

    The dinning area is not bad but the rest is awful. A hammock?? lol. They could've fit a large sectional in the lower left with storage above it and seating or storage in the lower right. At least nothing would need to be moved around.
