Don't forget that you can find the printable recipe for this ceviche (plus a few more variations!) on my website Downshiftology.com. :) xo - Lisa And now... I will ponder the next variation of ceviche to make next. ;)
I love ceviche. I used to buy it a lot when I lived in San Diego. I appreciate your tips to use a non-reactive bowl and to not marinate it too long. I’m going to try this with homemade tortilla chips I just learned to make. Thanks so much!
I subscribed to Downshiftology channel, thinking it was all about cars and gear-shifting. Little did I know, it was actually about food! But I decided to stick around and watch all your videos anyway. Turns out, it was a fantastic decision! Now, not only am I a pro at shifting gears, but I've also mastered the art of shifting flavors in the kitchen. Who knew a channel could satisfy both my need for speed and my need for a good meal? Talk about a delicious surprise!
Our family traditionally eats ceviche on a tostada or sometimes out of a bowl with salty crackers, thank you for sharing this. Definitely will try it with the avocado diced in it.
This ceviche looks super Yummy! I work at a Mexican restaurant and the best way to eat ceviche safely is by marinade the fish in lemon juice over night. So minimum 10 hours for extra safety. You made me hungry 😋
Hello, the original word ceviche is for a Peruvian dish where small pieces of raw fish are cooked with a lemon from the area that is extremely acidic and has a good flavor, which with salt and other ingredients achieves a perfect and difficult mixture find. Currently many Latin countries have released their own version of "ceviche" (Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Mexico among others) for tourist interests. Its origins date back to 1800 and it was created by Peruvian poor fishermen who inherited the tradition of eating raw fish with lemon and chili pepper on the high seas. It was a dish for the poor and for the poor until almost 1990 when it became a flagship dish. Greetings
@@Bond.girl.007there is a similar sounding dish in Spain called escabeche the fish is fried and covered in a sauce of salt vinegar sugar and pickled vegetables. Japan also has a similar dish called nanbanzuki
@tylerhughes5420 Hi, oh wow, great info 🤗 that sounds amazing! Puerto Rican and Dominican cuisine also has escabeche. I love it! And it's similar to escovitch fish from Jamaica. Which is usually fried snapper or other fish with thin sliced spicy pickled onion, peppers, and carrot. So good. I love Japanese cuisine, too! 🙂
It looks delicious! , I tasted it before, and its flavor is similar to the ceviche from Ecuador 🇪🇨, Greetings to my Mexican 🇲🇽 friends!!! Your food is too delicious 😋
@@Downshiftology yes , hopefully you can try all the variations of the ceviche, although its origin comes from Asia , due the lemon is from Asia ... Before Spanish people took the lemon from Asia to America, some Asian countries had dishes like the ceviche, for example in Philippines, they have a dish called "Kinilaw". Hope you can try all those dishes , thank you very much for the recipes! ☺️
I would love to try other kinds of ceviches. As a Peruvian, I enjoy our traditional ceviche, but I am always open to trying the variations from other countries. I hope you have the opportunity to visit Peru soon and experience more of our delicious cuisine. Thank you for the recipe!
Hello @@sambulate. In Peru, we also prepare ceviche by marinating the fish in lime juice (not lemon). However, we enhance the flavor of the fish by seasoning it with a Peruvian yellow hot pepper called aji amarillo and adding other spices such as salt and pepper. We then mix it with red onion. We do not include cucumbers or tomatoes in our ceviche. Instead, we serve it with Peruvian corn, sweet potato, lettuce, and toasted corn.
I love ceviche and add red chili sauce for the kick! I also love swai fish which is predominantly used for Peruvian ceviche. They also add some kind of cream or dairy which gives a milky color. Thanks for motivating me to make this for the weekend!!! Yummmm 🔥🔥🔥
I make ceviche in Mexico all the time from fish fresh the ocean. I add sliced black olives, olive oil (just a tablespoon), some dried oregano. Sometimes I even add a tablespoon of honey. I always marinade lemon and lime juice in fish for at least 12-24 hours. I have found worms in the near the gills part of the halibut, so I don't use that part.
Looks delish! Question: I noticed the fish wasn’t completely covered in the bowl. Is that important to do? My brain feels like the parts poking out wont cook.
You make all of our favorite recipes, we’re trying this one tonight. Do you have any wild game recipes? We like staying away from large farmed meats and poultry whenever we can, but that means working with meat and poultry that isn’t as common in supermarkets. It seems that wouldn’t apply to as much of your audience, but maybe a recipe we could substitute quale, dove, deer or elk into?
You need an electric juicer! I make Puerto Rican style ceviche which has less ingredience but like you say, it's all good. What part of Cabo do you like? Want to go soon (have to drive with my dog so thinking of entering from San Diego (extra 5 hours from PHX and staying along the coast). Thanks! PS, I bought that Zwilling knife and love it!
This looks so delicious and I mentioned it to my mother and she was turned off when I said it was "cooked" in lime juice. She felt it could not be eaten unless the fish was cooked with heat. I will try it anyways for myself. I will have to see if Northern fish would work. Someone gave me some that was caught in Canada.
With the fish and/or shrimp, and all the veggies, plus some tortilla chips, this looks like it would make a pretty good low-calorie meal - especially if you had a margarita to wash it down. Would you agree?

Yep! And I can't wait to visit one day and try it there. :)
have you ever been in Iran? Lot of culinary delights...🥰
I haven't, though I've been close... when I was in Herat, Afghanistan. :)
Roll your lemons and limes on the counter to soften them up. it releases the juice
Ceviche is an original recipe of Ecuador 🙋🏽♀️. Thank you.
Lovely Mexican ceviche recipe 8:01 😊. Thanks for doing your research in Mexico to showcase other wonderful offerings. Gracias!
Thank you! I do love Mexican cuisine and there are so many tasty options. :) x
Sounds delish! I particularly like scallops in Ceviche. You should now go somewhere in the Caribbean, maybe Jamaica and do a Caribbean ceviche 😅
Agreed! Scallops are so delicious 😊

For more inspiration, try Portugal 🇵🇹 😊
This looks so delicious and refreshing!!! 😋😍
It really is!!
Comes to Brazil. Here is a wonderful country!
I would love to one day!
Looks yummy
I always thought ceviche had coconut cream but maybe that’s just the Fijian version I’ve enjoyed. Love it
Oh interesting! I'll have to research that version.
Greetings from México!! I like your videos!! 😊

OMG looks so yummy! I will be having that for dinner tomorrow x

Will definitely add that to my bucket list next! 😉

You can stir it a few times to make sure all the pieces get "cooked." :)

Yuuuuum
you should go to Iceland next
That's definitely high on my travel list!
i like to use 6 to 8 limes, and 1 half of an orange
Love this recipe, definitely want to give a try! I was wondering if Sushi grade fish is needed? Thank you!
Ceviche is best made with freshly caught fish or sushi-grade, depending on the variety.
Er, is using a metallic juicer counterproductive?
No, because it's not sitting in it. ;)
Would I be able to meal prep this or can I only eat it right after I make it

You can definitely Google it for more info. But raw fish (aka sushi) is delish too! There's lots of ways to enjoy fish. :)
Looks amazing! Question on the jalapeño pepper, I really can’t do spice, any other suggestion?
You could always add half of a jalapeno pepper, or dice up a bit of sweet bell pepper if you'd still like that pop of green.
With the fish and/or shrimp, and all the veggies, plus some tortilla chips, this looks like it would make a pretty good low-calorie meal - especially if you had a margarita to wash it down. Would you agree?
I couldn't agree more! 😂
Enjoy your cinco de mayo
Hope you have a great one as well Billy!
Maybe Greece 🇬🇷
Definitely on my bucket list 😊
So the fish is not cooked on the stove, right? It is just marinated in lime juice for 30 minutes.
Yes, that's correct!
hi.lisa love seing your reciepes, im a follower for 2 year can you do some healthy launch wraps and side please
coconut milk is really good in ceviches
Can you replace the lemon juice from those little bottles of juice that the supermarket has ???
Yep, that's totally fine!
Can you confirm whether the fish needs to be sashimi grade?
What could I use as a substitute for cilantro because I'm allergic to it?
You could add parsley instead.
@@Downshiftology ok, thank you. I would like to try this. Seems like a nice light summer meal.

why?
Out of curiosity, is this marinated fish “cooked” enough to eat when you are pregnant? Probably not or?
That is something you'll have to make sure with your doctor!
No. It’s best avoided in pregnancy.
thank you very much for your answers!
raw fish?
Hy Kasi hy ap
The acidity does not cook the fish. It denatures the proteins making it seem as if it is cooked. But the fish is still raw.
Watching her cut fish and vegetables stresses me out.
