People do NOT understand how much of a challenge the Pacers were. Game 5 Pacers won by 33 and then led this entire game until the 4th quarter. This series was much closer than it looked.
they were pretty good even when they weren't a championship caliber team. 97 they got to the second round 98 western conference final and 99 second round so they came close those first 3 years together before winning in 2000
Pacers still had a good chance to at least tie the game. Probably a bad choice with that long 3 by Reggie Miller who was playing great in the series otherwise.
It was a 2 for 1. He did it knowing each team would have 1 more possession after tht quick shot. It may have been Bird's instruction as well. He aint getting a better look at a 3 w/o running off screens, burning allot more clock, & killing the 2 for 1 chance ie going under 24 secs on the game clock. Had they ran tht reg offense Lakers get it back w/ under 24 secs so they could either run clock out or force Pacers to foul & give 2 FT's to LA just to get the ball again. All tht said it's still a valid point you make. Perhaps just waiting a few more seconds was smarter? Just shoot before the game clock hits 30. Going to the hole perhaps in hindsight was a better idea. Possible foul or layup. I see why he did it & understand the logic but see ur side as valid also.
lakers just knew how to close it out. indy was in their first and so far only nba finals appearance. the lakers have last been there in 1991 yet, their lineup is composed of many players who had past nba finals and/or past title runs, and coached by a then-6 time 2 3-peat champion who runs the triangle.

Lakers winning despite Kobe going 8 for 27. Why he got all those shots with Shaq cookin is beyond me. He went 5 for 20 in Game 5 meaning in this last two games, he shot 13 for 47, 27.6%. Awful
He played with an injured ankle all series long since Jalen injured him 3 min into Game 2. Without Kobe Shaq is not getting any FREE baskets as this GAME again showed that Shaq is not for WINNING time you goofy kid.
@@Mercurial. He had 14 points in Game 1 and got outplayed by Austin Croshere. Shaq had 43/19/4. You fuckers are not going to retcon what I was around to watch. If he was hurt, he should've stayed on the bench instead of going 13 for 47.
@@Mercurial. And your mom is a 'goofy kid' for not aborting. Game 3, without Kobe...Shaq 33/13 on 63% shooting. GTFOH stupid. And I'm 44 years old...old enough to probably be your father the way your grammar is working. So stop stealing oxygen.
@@jaxsonsdad79 He was 21 in his first Finals game and had 14 and HELD HOF Clutch Killer Reggie to 8p in Game 1 and then he got injured in Game 2 but you ofc has no clue of that 🤡 Lakers WON the ONLY away game in Game 4 bec of Kobe brilliant 28p on an injured ankle in OT just shows you how little affect Diesel had on WINNING bec he was either fouled out or glued to the bench bec lack of INTANGIBLES. Now go and study some tapes young kid.
@@Mercurial. So being 21 matters for Kobe, but LeBron dragging a team to the Finals at 22 works against him? Y'all funny. I don't even check for Bron like that, but you Kobe stans who always have a bullshit excuse for the fact he was AWFUL in four of his seven Finals and sneaky bad in other one is laughable. The man had Shaq giving him constant one on one's and only shot over 43% in the Finals 2 out of 7 times. Unreal. MJ had a bum ankle in 1992...scored 46 points on the road in a must win Game 5 vs the 2nd best SG in the league. There's levels to this. Y'all have no problem propping up his OT in Game 4, but revert to 'oh he was hurt' when he sucked otherwise. GTFOH.
If shaq shot 65% from the free throw line in the 2000 finals Instead of 38% he would of averaged 42.1 points for the finals not 38.0 points. That would of been the most ever. Surpassing jordans 41 ppg in the 93 finals. If he just shot 65% from the line.
Shaq couldn't WIN without Kobe as he failed for 7 YEARS prior with Kobe as a bench player and Penny with the Orlando where he also got SWEPT 🧹 the most for an MVP in the playoffs. Kobe SHOWED he won 2 without Shaq as the lonely Superstar so 🤫
@@Mercurial.Shaq also won one without Kobe tho with Dwade leading the way in 2006. And you act like getting swepted by Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon is a bad thing. Horrible officiating. Pacers were the better team. It was evident they were going to make sure that this series didn't get to a game 7. How many offensive goal tendings by Shaq. How many tic tac fouls are you going to give to LA? It's the Finals let the players play. Pacers just couldn't beat the Refs. The Refs just gave it to LA. It was clear as day. Just like in 98. But this time the officiating was even worse. Congrats LA. You got your wish now go thank the Refs for letting you off the hook.

yeah lakers had tough comp that year. 2000 Trail Blazers almost had them
Reggie was clearly fouled trying to tie the game with the 3 at 34.8.
Both Shaq and kobe looked happy when they finally won the NBA title for the Lakers.

They’ll never be a better duo than Shaq and Kobe. R. I. P. Kobe legend.
Shaq was playing badass in his MVP Season.

Other than his game 1 disaster
Still have this game series on VHS 😃
