    After having a bucket of water dumped on my head via the sunroof I called my local dealership to see if they would look at it for me. They wanted $175 just to diagnose it. Nah.
    I figured that I should check out my drain channels. Lo and behold, they were totally junked up. In this video I'll show you how clean them out.
    This is definitely something that should be done or at least checked once and a while as preventative maintenance.

    Thanks for that. My 2017 Tacoma is currently at the dealership getting my sunroof entirely replaced after 7 yrs. This time I'll clear those channels myself as you show in this video to help mitigate these troubles.

      Dag, no way! What happened that the entire sunroof had to go? Did the motor crap out or something?

    • @corduroystone
      @corduroystone 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@tacosauce4x4 they had to replace the sunroof because the seal around that failed. 1 year warranty on the new sunroof.

      Update: Next couple days it rained and leaked onto the passenger floor board coming from the exact same spot right of the glove box. Toyota said then it was due to my windshield. Toyota decal on bottom L of windshield shows it's the original windshield. I took it to Safelite. The tech there said the passenger side of the original windshield came right out as if it was never glued in properly. New windshield and now it's fixed. Not happy about Toyota having my truck 5 days total to figure this out. I didn't even bother with questioning their moonroof seal findings because that turned out to be an expensive experiment which proved to be wrong.

    I’m going to give this a shot. My leak is exactly to the right of the roof controls. The dealership called and quoted me $573 to “remove” trim and clean out the leak. If this is all it takes I will be astonished with their dishonesty. Thanks for sharing.

      Yeah dealers can be like that. Probably $200 for the job and another $250 for labor. Hope this fixes it for you!

      @@tacosauce4x4 I got the brushes today and cleaned the drains out. Worked like a charm. Thanks again.

    I do this before every rainy season here where I live for my wife’s car and my daily. Thankfully my Tacoma doesn’t have one. Another thing if you park under a tree or in a high construction area there’s a higher probability that crap will start to gunk up quicker. Another preventative measure I took was a aftermarket sealant for the gasket inside and outside.

    This happened to me and my truck still smells horrible. Great video!

      Yeah so when I made this clip I didn’t expect it to really be that popular. Seems like it’s a pretty prevalent problem though.
      If you truck still smells you might want to steam clean your carpets and stuff. Last thing you want is mold or mildew in the headliner

      Yeah I had no idea about cleaning sunroof drains. I had taken my truck to the dealer twice before they figured it out. Which was only after they told me my hood lights were the issue and that my third brake light was probably also the cause. They were wrong.

    Hoping this is the fix for me, if not I have to rip off my roof rack and re-seal the bolts.

      Prayers up for ya. I was in the same boat. Thought it was my rack but figured I'd try this first, and lo and behold, it was just some junk in the drain.

    Great video, where does that drain exit at?

    • @tacosauce4x4
      @tacosauce4x4  ปีที่แล้ว

      It runs down the A pillars and exits through a small valve behind the wheel wells. Really hard to locate unless you can pour some water down the drain (carefully) and see where it comes out.

    Did you insert the full length of the pipe cleaner down those holes ? Would the brush end pop out at the bottom?

    • @tacosauce4x4
      @tacosauce4x4  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Only about two feet of it was needed. Remember, you want to work it almost like a q-tip. The goal is to pull stuff out, not push it down. If you go too far you can definitely end up pushing the rubber grommet off of the bottom so I wouldn’t use more than half of the length of the pipe cleaner.

      Damn I wish you mentioned that in the video, I stuck the whole entire thing down and def met a bit of resistance on the way back up. Any way I can find the bottom end to see if I damaged anything? Thanks
