  • At the start of 2019 I suffered from stress related hair loss. It stopped falling out at the end of May 2019 and now 1 year later I share with you how much my hair has regrown!
    I wasn't sure if I had Alopecia Areata or Telogen Effulvium. I'm leaning more toward TE by seeing the pattern of hair fall and regrowth.
    Read my Telogen Effluvium Recovery Story here: betweenengland...
    If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me on Instagram @englandandiowa
    I also have a book out worldwide on Amazon titled "Dealing With Stress Related Hair Loss" (by Kylie Neuhaus) where I talk about my hair loss journey in full.

      Woo! Should be all uphill for now then! It was around the 1yr to 1.5yrs once it finished falling out that I really started noticing the length as it looked like a right mess, I was just happy it was growing back though!

    Thanks so much for sharing your story! I am going through TE now. I really started to notice my hair thinning in June of 2021 and was finally diagnosed after a biopsy in Aug 2022 by a dermatologist. I am dealing with 3 conditions. One is genetic but can be slowed down and reversed and the other two are fully treatable and will hopefully not return. I think the majority of my hair loss is due to chronic TE. Lots of sadness and stress the last few years in my life. My grandmother died, mother in law diagnosed with cancer and sadly lost that battle, my dog died unexpectedly after learning my mother in law had cancer, stressful work situation in 2018/2019 …you name it. The last few years have been very tough. Getting Covid was literally the breaking point for my hair. I do have a few questions. Did you notice a lot of tiny hairs all over the top of your head when your hair started coming back? I see many at varying lengths. Was your part wider when you lost hair? Did you dry your hair on a low setting when you had TE? I try to save styling it for special occasions but it’s so hard 😢 Haven’t curled my hair in over a year!

    • @Betweenengland

      My goodness I’m so sorry you went through all of that! Don’t you just love how when we are already feeling down our bodies are like nahhhh have some more stuff to deal with!!! I only experienced ‘one cycle’ so after the 5 months of fall out, it did all start coming back. As you can see in the video mine looked various lengths depending on where it fell out from but I think it all grew fairly at a similar rate. I have a couple of the early videos in my playlist where you can see what the top of my head looked like. It did look pretty white. As for heat, I never style my hair anyway and I always let my hair air dry, so I never used a hair dryer on it and I probably wouldn’t have wanted to if it was part of my routine, because I didn’t even really want to wash it! I mostly just kept my hair in a bun or I plaited/braided it to try and make it look thicker.

    Just found you tonight on YT, I'm in early stages and shedding crazily, I accepted it after a few days of crying, and I'm changing my diet adding vit D as I know I'm deficient in many vitamins.

      Thank you for the kind words! I wish you all the best! I added Vit B too and that’s good for healthy hair, it’s in eggs, avocado, nuts, spinach etc. I found a pony tail worked best for me, I brushed it over the ‘white’ patches and then sometimes I did a plait to try and make it look thicker. For the most part I was ok once I realised I wasn’t suddenly going to go bald. I’m now 2 years since it stopped and I’m pretty much completely back to normal again now :)

I too, got recently diagnosed with T.E and on some days the hairfall is within 50 but then again suddenly one day it goes up, I do see regrowth...I am really depressed about it... because when the hair fall is within 50 it's a happy day for me but when it's a bit more, I cry all day...is it normal for the hair shedding to fluctuate like that..that is, can it shed a bit more sometimes?? And do you think I'm recovering... you've experienced T.E and it's always great to learn...plus, I think I'm again a bit more upset about my T.E

      Hello! I'm so sorry you are finding it hard! I tended to have more hair fall on days when I washed my hair, so that was always worse...I had my hair up so most would be caught, on a day when I didn't wash it, I would tend to get roughly the same every morning. However when I washed it, I would get that same morning amount a SECOND time that day. My hair fall latest for around 6 months and then suddenly it stopped overnight. If you can it's important to get checked out to make sure, nothing worse is wrong. I had all my blood levels checked to make sure it wasn't caused by another condition. I wish you all the best!

    Hey, glad to see you hair finally behaving. I started to get Telogen Effluvium in January this year, it hasn't stopped. Some days it's less than other days, but continues.
    Finally went to a dermatologist and had a scalp biopsy done and it revealed nothing. I think the loss of my dog, my father and my cat within three months contributed to all this - never, had it ever been this bad. My concern is, did you start to see new growth and the new growth fell out with the older hair?
    I've been seeing that. My doctor also told me my hair may never be as full again either and I'm going on the 4th month of this so far.
    I also lost weight due to extreme depression (from 128 lbs to 115 lbs) in two months could factor in too.

    • @Betweenengland
      @Betweenengland  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! I’m so sorry you went through all that! I can’t begin to imagine how hard that was! My hair was falling out for 5 solid months before it stopped. It started at the end of December and finished at the very end of May. I only really noticed the regrowth at the beginning of June. In all honesty I didn’t really look in a mirror for 5 months because I hated what I saw. It was literally overnight that it stopped and once that happened, the hair I noticed starting to grow in June then continued to grow. I think in one area it looks a little thinner but nothing that particularly concerns me. It’s now been just over 2yrs since it first started falling out and I’m not pretty much back to normal. 5 months, does seem to be the magic number though from my conversations with others. I wish you all the best!!

      @lob9706 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Betweenengland it gets so annoying falling out every day. How much hair do you think would lose daily, right up until the day you only had a few lose hairs? I think mine is 150 to 200 every day, I also am losing the new growth baby hairs. I seriously have 4 bag fulls of lost hair since January, I could make into a partial wig right now. I do have a lot of hair though, but not thick.

    • @Betweenengland
      @Betweenengland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was around 150 a day that I lost constantly for 5 months, until it stopped overnight and then it was literally like 4! It was shocking the difference! Honestly the best way to cope is to kind of accept it, which I know is so so so hard, but I felt so much better when I just threw away what was coming out, I stopped counting around 3 months in, but I knew the same amount was falling out but I wouldn’t obsess about it. I guess I lost around 50% of my hair in total...once I knew how it was falling out and that I could try to cover it up, that helped. In the beginning I was terrified I’d lose massive chunks and wake up half bald one morning but thankfully that never happened!

    • @lob9706
      @lob9706 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Betweenengland yeah, you kinda have to just go with the flo until it hopefully resolves. Part of me just wants to cut my hair off. Also, my doctor wants me to keep the hairloss for appointments to make sure it continues to be telogen effluvium... (sounds like a retro club lol)
      I noticed you had more hairloss on top, mine is the sides and lower back which is really weird... nothing on top - I feel like an umbrella head haha

    • @Betweenengland
      @Betweenengland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was lucky, my doctor seemed pretty confident so I didn’t have to keep anything! 🙈 I’m glad I didn’t do anything with mine because I think it made me look ‘back to normal’ much quicker, I was just able to clip shorter bits down until it caught up to a point where it blended in. Like I said, 2 years since I start and I’m completely back to looking normal. If I had done something drastic I think I would still be trying to recover as such! I did lose a lot from the top but then I also lost a lot right at the top of my neck as well. One of the first places I noticed it coming out was actually on the side. I had one area where it was quite bad that was on the back on my head, but just like the baby hair situation I never really looked in a mirror and I didn’t want to see how bad it was, so I avoided feeling for gaps and really studying where it was coming from! It was only when it was coming back that I kind of got an idea of just how bad it was!

Shedding lasted for 13 months , basically a month ago it stopped .however , the areas affected still have the thinning hair being able to see my scalp Eventhough shedding stopped.not bald spots just thin. Hmm I’m not an expert, I can only compare it to my experience which was stress related. If yours was because of sunburn then it may have damaged the hair follicles/scalp? The way my dermatologist explained mine was that imagine in winter when grass dies a bit, but in the spring it comes back green because the ‘seed’ in the ground is still ok...maybe the ‘seeds’ may not be ok? I have some areas that feel a little bit thinner but not by much. Maybe it’s worth asking a doctor? I did have steroid injections in the worst area so that might help?
