- In this video we review the best IREM Classic ARCADE games, all their successes, as well as the lesser known ones and their hidden gems, which makes it a video with a high educational value and also for the preservation of the video game.
Info IREM (アイレム, Airemu) was founded in 1974 under the name IPM. It published its first arcade game in 1978, IPM Invader, and in 1979 changed its name to Irem Corporation.
The company is probably best known for Moon Patrol, the famous R-Type Martian Killer, and early beat 'em up Kung-Fu Master. It has been a popular developer in Japan with games like Photoboy for the PC Engine and In the Hunt for the arcade, Sega Saturn, PlayStation, and PC. Irem is also known for making her arcade games extremely difficult.

From the beginning it looks like IREM was just imitating Taito and Namco but didn't really start finding their identity until around the mid 80s. Irem was known for; Lode Runner, Kung Fu Master, the first of the beat em' up games, R-Type, Bomberman, Ninja Spirit, Image Fight, X-Multiply, Gunforce Battle and In The Hunt, which were precursors to Metal Slug.
Dude, if you list EVERY GAME THEY EVER MADE, it's not a "BEST" list anymore. It's just a LIST.

As a long time gamer, way back in the early 90`s, I always looked for games by Irem.They have always had the games I liked and it seemed like they gave Capcom some serious competition. I had no idea they made so many games and no to mention coin ops too. Great video.Keep them coming.You just earned a new subscriber.
Kung Fu Master really needs to come to Arcade Archives on the Switch..

I think Irem and it's immediately R-TYPE in my mind.
I love the "gritty" visuals in Undercover Cops, In The Hunt, Cosmic Cop and Gunforce.
Ninja Spirit into a modern action-rpg would be incredible!

Irem were always a master class of pixel/sprite work, but they really started to pull away, and become the best of the best in 1990.

IREM games all had excellent pixel artwork. Even all those early 80s shooters looked better than their competitors' games.

nice, no nasty blocky digital pixels in this presentation but pixels with scanlines, bloom n shadow mask etc so it looks nice as it was on a CRT, when will youngsters who werent there learn that their hipster pixel art games arent retro really and just look shite

Irem is very influential in the Japanese game development industry. Without them, we wouldn't have Aicom and Yumekobo, which meant no Pulstar, Blazing Star, and Prehistoric Isle 2. There'd be no Nazca and no Metal Slug. These guys sure gets around
They don't seem to understand the meaning of "easy", that's just not their development style. If an Irem game is easy, it means they've screwed up. A true Irem game has to make you want to rip your hair out in frustration

I've already made a collection of arcade games on retropie 3 along with other consoles. No need to wait. Plus it in your TV, tinker with scanlines and aspect ratio, plug in a controller of your choice and you are good to go. It will take some effort to set up but the device only costs 100 soemthing with 128 gb sd card. Can't go wrong. All in one place. I'm just using this video to learn up other IREM games that I can add to the arcade collection on Retropie. haha

The most iconic game of the company: R-TYPE.
And the best side scroller shootemup ever. Graphics, sound and gameplay matching perfectly. I still occasionally sing the r-type tunes (along with puffin's of course).

15:27 People sleeping on Ninja Spirit. If you haven't played this game you really need to. This player is doing a terrible job showing it off. Has four unique weapons with 8-Way directional weapons you can switch to at all times. You can throw or set the dynamite, throw ninja stars (with clones for full screen spammage) spin the grappling hook around the entire screen, or swing upward and stab through the floorboards with the sword. All in realtime.
