    This is a great observation to make/conversation to have with your potential future spouse. I personally was on the other side: It was the neediness of my former partner's mother that added to the reasons I ended the relationship. He made it clear that if we were to get married, his mother would come with him. His mother (who isn't elderly) selfishly made very poor decisions/life choices, and as a result, both her health and finances are suffering. As his potential spouse, the responsibility of taking care of her would also fall on me, and that's not something I'm willing to sign up for out the gate.
    Unpopular opinion: The vast majority of us have been groomed to believe that our role as adult children is to take care of our parents. No... a child does not ask to be here, and thus, should not be expected to provide for parents out of OBLIGATION. Every adult is responsible for their own life; mothers/fathers expecting their adult children to take care of them ESPECIALLY when they've spent a lifetime of living reckless and making poor decisions, is crazy as hell to me.

    • @MeganJai
      @MeganJai 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was looking for a comment like this.
      You are spot on! Too many unhealed adults out here!
      I also feel like people who grew up in safe and healthy families don't understand the struggles of having toxic/abusive parents who are still alive and still bring harm and dysfunction to their adult children's lives.

    • @ThePecanTan
      @ThePecanTan 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@MeganJai Yes, sis! Parents and family members in general are often our first and worst abusers, and get away with it because of who they are to us.
      Taking care of your parent(s) is indeed a noble act, and if you are looking for someone who will help you take care of yours, this should definitely be discussed with your potential partner/spouse.

Because someone have a foocked up mother or parent(s) life isn’t over, but failing to self help in attempts every day of living to solve the issue is. Maybe no parent has ever been perfect being a human being. But I’ve heard about the most wildest situations being true (of bad) and it’s not mostly good being the sick person of having to live with the person NOT interested in no kind of help. Facts!!!! I think most people would agree that you should help your parents or be a support system for them & show love to your parents but once you make a commitment to a woman & child, there should be appropriate boundaries between parents & their married kids. A wife & children shouldn't have to worry or feel threatened by the relationship their spouse has with their parents because it should be compartmentalize.....meaning, your mother is your mother & that is a type of relationship & your wife is your wife & that is its own relationship. Both have a place in your life. But, the way Dr. Umar is speaking & based on other things he's said, if I were a woman dating him & we were talking about or sharing ideas about what marriage means & looks like to us, I would be incredibly concerned & already feel like there is no point in taking things further because I'd be uncomfortable with how he understands his relationship with his mother & the type of boundaries they have. With "mama's boys," it sounds like there could be some emotional incest going on. No healthy, self-respecting woman wants to deal with that.

    And you calling yourself a momma's boy at 50 years old speaks to his mentality and the lack of growth in my opinion. People suspect Umar still lives with his mother when he isn't traveling all over the place. Sounds more like a dependant than being close.

    This dudes mentality is wrong. If you look at it like Wife vs Mom off the bat, then you've already failed.
