Actually, the scalpers are just shooting themselves at their foot here. Back during the GPU crises with the 30 series, miners would literally buy a gpu at any price that allowed scalpers to strive. With eth mining gone, I don't think scalpers would be able to thrive
So, scalpers already have a hard time selling 4080s and 4090s at retail price, so the next logical step was to sell the 7900s at 2-3x retail? A community of they greatest minds have graced us with their existence.
They probably figure that with nvidia's massive fuckup with the 4090s catching on fire that there would be some massive exodus/demand for AMD's new cards. And to a degree they're kinda right, if i were to upgrade my pc it would probably be with AMD instead of nvidia, though i already got a 3070ti so i dont really need much more for gaming for a good while.

Funny thing is that I can currently get a RTX 3090 Ti for about 1100€ if I dig around a bit (new). RTX 4080s go for 1400€ and up and the 7900 XTX was yet again bought up by scalpers on day 1 because they didn't even learn their lesson yet after sitting on a pile of 4080s and 4090s that nobody will buy off of them. I wish them all the best with their overdrawn bank accounts.

@@HifeMan Yeah the only reason the XTX is attractive at all is because it can keep up with the 4080 in raster performance and as a trade off you get less RT performance and a cheaper price. If someone tries to charge RTX 4080 money for it then it's really not worth it...I reaaaally hope people stop buying from scalpers like crazy.

I got mine at microcenter on launch day. Camped out. First in line. They had 34 total to sell. Also I got my wife one on Amazon on launch day also. Most of them were dropped at Amazon and Best Buy around 3-6am eastern time zone. A bunch of people in the line also got one online just in case they didn’t have any at the store. None of us knew inventory levels. Also there’s only one reason people scalp. Because there’s people stupid enough to pay them. Stop paying the trolls and they won’t come for us anymore and They’ll go back to shoe scalping Jordan’s and gettin more mop top haircuts and being crypto kids who don’t get laid
I managed to get one. All it took was 2 of us, having all possible shops open and then flicking between them to get them the moment they launched. We made a deal that each of us would order 2 in case the other didn't get any. We ended up successfully placing orders for 3 7900 XTX. We aren't scalpers though, so we canceled the third order, and now both of us have one (or rather, my mate got his already, but mine isn't coming until the 21st).

yeah I kept all the shops open was refreshing them for 3 hours after I missed initial wave, and got lucky on one of the smaller shops posting stock later on. From what I've heard availability wise like these shops only got a couple to distribute.

imagine buying an xtx when u could get 50% better rt, rtx remix, dlss, frame generation, vr performance that isnt worse than the 6900xt and overall better driver support all for 50 - 100 more (reference cards have terrible cooling, joker productions was 82 degrees so AIB 1100 vs 1150 4080 in the uk)
i think this round of scalpers are gonna suffer more than the honest gamers. A lot of people upgraded during this black friday season and a lot of us expected the new cards to be scalped on launch. i doubt many of them will ever be able to sell especially ones like that ridiculous red devil

I got lucky. I got up at 5:45 am and started refreshing at 5:58. Completed my order at 6:01 and checked again just out of curiosity and they were completely out of stock. I'm glad I finally get to upgrade my 1660.
Local availability is the deciding factor, not sales tax. Other European countries often have the same prices, and on the rare occasion it's cheaper in a different EU country, then you can often just buy from them thanks to the freedom of import and export for countries in the union. You also have to remember that American states have their own sales tax which might not be reflected in the MSRP or online listings in American videos before checkout. So a product listed at 10 $ is often a bit more at checkout.
Looking forward to the next month or so for those who bought with intentions to upsale returning in droves. I hope the Microcenter shelves will have a few with open box pricing.
Even at MSRP the prices are out of control. I still remember when 200€ got you a 560 ti with 60% of the power of a 580 (which was 480€), even the dual GPU 590 was sold at "just" 620€.
Yeah, those were the days I remember upgrading from my old R9 390x two years after the 580 got released. Got it for only 180€, brand new, in France, best value for money I ever had in my entire life. Still, the RX 6700xt are starting to get at the 580 price when it was release here (480€), so that's a good sign and they're great cards

There are serious problems going on in China right know. Along with companies purposely holding back on what ever stock they have left to sell. The price of shipping goods has become significantly more expensive and harder to do as well. I don’t expect availability until summer 2023 from both Nvidia and AMD.

So I'm happy, got a r7 58003dx coming too replace my 5600x also. I play vr and from everything online shows some gains to be had lol. But I knew the scalpers were going to be on all new gpus because they are greedy vultures. Sucks really. The companies themselves aren't any better selling halo cards over a $1000 anyways. Got excited and went to build a new pc. Overall price came to $6000. Closed the browser and continued not to care. Maybe next year 3 years in a row now 😂
What parts were those though? I'm running a 7900x , X670E and as of tomorrow an RX 7900 XTX. According to PC Partpicker my build costs around £3000, which is a lot, but the only way it could cost anything more than maybe £4000 is for threadripper/ Epyc class CPUS, or using multiple TBs of gen4 NVMEs
@@truereaper4572 define decent pc build, because just a rtx 3050, the lowest nvidia card of last gen(which still trades a lot of blows with my 1660 super) is still around $350. A step up to the rtx 3060, not even ti, and you're already close to the 600 dollars without a case, mobo, ram, cooler, psu, etc. I think a decent pc build these days hovers around 1k but that might be regional.

I honestly would only trust sapphire or XFX when it comes to decent cooling on AMD cards. Both of them have been AIBs for an extremely long time. Also, I remember hearing that this generation, XFX really stepped up their game where a sapphire more or less stay at the same. So you really can't go wrong with either.
i just bought a used XFX RX 6700 xt for R$ 2000,00 ($ 376, this is cheap in my country). Never buy new main hardware (CPU + GPU). You save a lot of money and still run all latest games
While I guess, they're setting those based on mining, as you can see, those prices are at similar price than the 4000 series officially in stock, that's what I expected it could happen if the performance was close from the 7000 series.

What resolution, and settings do you game on with the 3060? I'm rocking a 1080ti, and I love the thing. Ray tracing is nothing more than a marketing gimmick to me XD I had a 3090, but returned it cause the 4k, ultra ray tracing wasn't that much of a wow factor to me :\

@@miqotelover depends on the game ,mostly 1440P cause at 1080p its easy for the card to get 100+fps even in demanding AAA Games as rdr2 or spiderman , control with RT for example at 1080P DLSS its Around 90-110FPS
And if you spent on a 4K 144Hz display, might as well get a 4090 and make full use of it. Or get a second hand 3090. Mine has at least kept above 60 fps for everything but the most demanding RT workloads.
@@romxxii Picked up a second hand 3090 for $740 US on eBay recently, when it arrived it was covered in dust from heavy mining use. With a little TLC I replaced the thermal pads, re-pasted/ cleaned the fans, cold plate, and after a month of gaming on it, it runs as if it was new. That felt like a good value for the card, I don't think ill ever spend over $1k on a GPU that will be obsolete in just a few generations.

@@GamingTaylor The 1080 was a beast of a card for its time, I feel like the 1000 series was the last generation before NVIDIA started a form of planned obsolescence. Since then it's felt like there is less and less performance to dollar ratio and the 80 iteration in each gen is starting to feel more and more like the 70 iterations used to perform. This means we have a mid-tier that is eroding away. AMD needs to bring more fight to the game because FSR still isn't that great compared to DLSS and their ray tracing is one generation behind. NVIDIA needs to be on the defensive so the consumer can have decent prices again.
I have a feeling in a couple of months scalpers will be choking on their own aspirations…(a rephrasing of Darth, Vader’s words,) when inevitably… the GPU market will crash even more I predict within the next one to two months…(scalpers definition to me is AMD and Nvidia(TSMC, /Samsung )and individual sellers who mark up the goods they sell…

@@davindermajhail898 fantastic. Definitely worth the upgrade. I got the powercolor card looks nice and is much smaller than I expected. No issues so far and getting great preformance on ultra setting no matter the game. I am interested to see the other versions of this card tho
Yeah thats whats not making sense to me either. Its the shittiest model of 7900xtx and you can buy 4080 with good thermals for the same price WITH RT and better power draws
And the best thing is, we screw ourselves if we force AMD and Nvidia to lock out their cards for mining because then we have companies telling people what they can and can't do with something they bought which is infinitely more fucjed
Got a 7900 XTX for £1070 on Ebuyer as soon as it became available. For reference I paid £1250 for my 6900 XT last year, so I'm just happy that I didn't have to spend even more than I did then 😁 ... I should mention that In the UK the RTX 4080 is about £1500, the RTX 4090 is also close to about £1800-£2000, so in terms of sheer value the 7900 XTX wins by a landslide.
@Milosz Rzeznikowski that's not bad at all, but personally I'm glad I got my 7900 XTX. AMD always tend to really Increase performance after a year of Driver updates, so I'm hoping that they can do the same with this haha
@@josh1068 TBH I 'bought' MBA XTX at OcUK for £1050 but as it appeared they oversold and my order turned into pre-order with no ETA. I simply cancelled it and bought Zotac 4080 OC from Ebuyer for £1219. It's just that to get nice and quiet XTX you'd have to buy AIB model (next batches in January) that costs pretty much the same. All in all I wanted good card for Xmas break and AMD didn't sell me one. :D

Mine is the Powercolor reference style card I think (saw the first good price and bought it haha), but for me that's fine since I don't really care about OC or a fancy looking GPU. Interestingly enough the 7900 XT is wildly available at MSRP from multiple vendors. The 7900 XTX is another story though. I can see people settling for the 7900 XT and just overclocking it to XTX performance. At any case inventory will probably improve greatly in the next two months, might even see some price decreases as I smell a pricing war coming as soon as last gen stock from both companies is depleted.
@@larion2336 Yeah it should have been a $699 card, even $799 isn't terrible. $899 is a hard sell but if you're willing to overclock and undervolt to get it to XTX performance it's a good value.

lmao If you're paying more than MSRP for a 7900XTX you might as well get a 4080. Except the prices on nvidia cards are falling, so you'd be kind of dumb to buy a 4080 right now. You'd also be dumb to buy a 7900 XT since you can get a 6950XT for a couple hundred less for roughly the same performance. I realize these cards are powerful and all, but for these prices? They're not aaanywhere near THAT good. You can buy the whole rest of a top-end computer for less than a mid-range card! In a few weeks the stock will be stable and the 7900XTX will cost 1100 for good AIB like the Nitro+, so it's not bad at all

Local availability is the deciding factor, not sales tax. Other European countries often have the same prices, and on the rare occasion it's cheaper in a different EU country, then you can often just buy from them thanks to the freedom of import and export for countries in the union.
You also have to remember that American states have their own sales tax which might not be reflected in the MSRP or online listings in American videos before checkout. So a product listed at 10 $ is often a bit more at checkout.
US has state and city sales taxes too, it's just not required to be listed in the price so it's a hidden cost compared to what the sticker is.

What parts were those though? I'm running a 7900x , X670E and as of tomorrow an RX 7900 XTX. According to PC Partpicker my build costs around £3000, which is a lot, but the only way it could cost anything more than maybe £4000 is for threadripper/ Epyc class CPUS, or using multiple TBs of gen4 NVMEs

A step up to the rtx 3060, not even ti, and you're already close to the 600 dollars without a case, mobo, ram, cooler, psu, etc.
I think a decent pc build these days hovers around 1k but that might be regional.

They're steadily dropping their asking prices for all the Xbox Series X, PS5s, 4080, 4090, and now 7900XTX's and honestly every day they don't sell, is a day they lose money. I honestly would only trust sapphire or XFX when it comes to decent cooling on AMD cards. Both of them have been AIBs for an extremely long time. Also, I remember hearing that this generation, XFX really stepped up their game where a sapphire more or less stay at the same. So you really can't go wrong with either.

@@romxxii Picked up a second hand 3090 for $740 US on eBay recently, when it arrived it was covered in dust from heavy mining use. With a little TLC I replaced the thermal pads, re-pasted/ cleaned the fans, cold plate, and after a month of gaming on it, it runs as if it was new. That felt like a good value for the card, I don't think ill ever spend over $1k on a GPU that will be obsolete in just a few generations.

@@GamingTaylor The 1080 was a beast of a card for its time, I feel like the 1000 series was the last generation before NVIDIA started a form of planned obsolescence. Since then it's felt like there is less and less performance to dollar ratio and the 80 iteration in each gen is starting to feel more and more like the 70 iterations used to perform. This means we have a mid-tier that is eroding away. AMD needs to bring more fight to the game because FSR still isn't that great compared to DLSS and their ray tracing is one generation behind. NVIDIA needs to be on the defensive so the consumer can have decent prices again.
I have a feeling in a couple of months scalpers will be choking on their own aspirations…(a rephrasing of Darth, Vader’s words,) when inevitably… the GPU market will crash even more I predict within the next one to two months…(scalpers definition to me is AMD and Nvidia(TSMC, /Samsung )and individual sellers who mark up the goods they sell…

For reference I paid £1250 for my 6900 XT last year, so I'm just happy that I didn't have to spend even more than I did then 😁
... I should mention that In the UK the RTX 4080 is about £1500, the RTX 4090 is also close to about £1800-£2000, so in terms of sheer value the 7900 XTX wins by a landslide.

@@josh1068 TBH I 'bought' MBA XTX at OcUK for £1050 but as it appeared they oversold and my order turned into pre-order with no ETA. I simply cancelled it and bought Zotac 4080 OC from Ebuyer for £1219. It's just that to get nice and quiet XTX you'd have to buy AIB model (next batches in January) that costs pretty much the same. All in all I wanted good card for Xmas break and AMD didn't sell me one. :D

Interestingly enough the 7900 XT is wildly available at MSRP from multiple vendors. The 7900 XTX is another story though. I can see people settling for the 7900 XT and just overclocking it to XTX performance. At any case inventory will probably improve greatly in the next two months, might even see some price decreases as I smell a pricing war coming as soon as last gen stock from both companies is depleted.

lmao If you're paying more than MSRP for a 7900XTX you might as well get a 4080. Except the prices on nvidia cards are falling, so you'd be kind of dumb to buy a 4080 right now. You'd also be dumb to buy a 7900 XT since you can get a 6950XT for a couple hundred less for roughly the same performance. I realize these cards are powerful and all, but for these prices? They're not aaanywhere near THAT good. You can buy the whole rest of a top-end computer for less than a mid-range card! Buy a bottom-tier card and let everyone else go broke, then when they need to pay the interest on their credit card they'll sell their card at an incredible loss. These scalpers are going to get hosed.
At this point, im wondering if these people really are real or retailers trying to cash in with "pre-sale/order confirmed/guaranteed checkout" scheme...

A bunch of scalpers got screwed holding onto 3080s and 3090s last gen. This generation will be no different.
I feel this. When I was pulling the funds together for my high-end rig, I spotted a great deal for the OC edition at $1000. By the time I went to buy though, they were all $1400 D: No regrets though, this machine is amazing
