1. Nerf Steel 2. Nerf Fairy INTO THE GROUND 3. Make Bug super effective to Fairy as well as resist Fairy and straight up IMMUNE to Poison 4. Add the Bug Type terrain from Masters 5. Buff Hydreigon until its God. Sure, its not a Bug Type, but its weak to Bug, so by buffing it, it retroactively buffs Bugs and makes my dreams reality. 6. Make Victory Dance avaliable to physical attacking Bugs, namely Scizor and Heracross, to contrast Quiver Dance Bugs like Venomoth and Volcarona
1. Make Bug resist Fairy, Psychic, and Dark moves 2. Make Fairy weak to Bug 3. Give them stronger, more widespread offensive moves, like a physical attack with 95 BP and 100% accuracy to at least help bridge the gap between Leech Life/Lunge/x-Scissor and Megahorn, and a special attack with 110 BP and 85% accuracy so that special attackers don't just have 90 BP Bug Buzz and Pollen Puff
Ribombee has the niche of being the fastest sticky web user out of gate, tho It competes mostly with shuckle due to its absurd bulk, sturdy ability meaning It cant be taunted while holding a mental herb and potentially being able to put up rocks as well
@@joaopedrorossi3018 exactly, shuckle offers more as a support mon through spikes, toxic, stealth rock and of course webs, infestation is nice on an okay bulky mon, plus mental herb and sturdy ensures you at least get one hazard up
@@axyzsz8162It's because pretty much everything that they gave quiver dance to is based on a butterfly or moth, and bug Pokemon unfortunately usually don't have good stats. If you want a good quiver dance user, you have the choice between Venomoth, Ribombee, or Volcarona, and that's pretty much it
@@TheEmeraldWeirdoespecially because it means there’s no proper gap between stuff like struggle bug and bug buzz like how Water pulse is in between Water gun and surf/hydro pump which absolutely bites for mid game
Plus, they removed it in the same gen they removed Hidden Power, so Jolteon legitimately lost all of it's coverage options, it now only has Electric, Ghost and Normal moves, that is insulting. At least giving it back Signal Beam would have been something to hit Grass typs even if it still struggled with the Ground types. I mean, it can effectively run Tera Ice now but still, what a letdown
Actually I believe Bug has some of the most diverse typings in Pokémon. It’s only missing two type combinations left. While Bug/Dragon is a cool typing having a 4x resistance to grass, but gaining/retaining 5 weaknesses, and being resisted/immuned by 6 doesn’t benefit the type overall if it’s being carried by the benefits of dual typing. It’s about time Bug typing got a rework.
@@GalavantworksBug/Dragon is still a very interesting type to have in battle due to the sheer number of important resistances it has, it legitimately resists 4 of the best offensive types in the game (Ground, Fighting, Electric and Water) whilst being neutral to common coverage to those types like Fire or Dark, sure it has many weaknesses (though the Flying and Dragon ones are relatively easy to play around as they are very rarely ran as coverage moves, so you should be safe on that front as long as you don't send it on a Dragon or Flying type), but it can very easily serve as a great Pivot. Seriously, look at how well this dual type pairs up with a Steel type for example, or even a Ground type, you could easily pivot between the two to cover a ton of different things. I'd say it has clear potential in practice, much more than just looking at raw stats of the typing would indicate
not really, its shouldent be a dragon just because the term "dragonfly" yanmega looks nothing like a dragon, vibrava was a dragon only because flygon was and flygon actually look like a dragon but not bug anymore, kingdra and dragalge are dragons because sea horses considerd the dragons of the sea, you shouldnt give a bug dragon type just because its called "dragonfly"
I feel like there's already a lot of really good bug type moves. The issue is that they arent exclusive to bug types. There's no reason to use a bug type for pollen puff when amoongus learns it for example. If they made all these strong bug type moves exclusive to bug types or gave bug types exclusive benefits when using them outside of STAB then they may become common in the meta
In Mystery Dungeon, bug types who get access to Silver Wind are pretty busted. Mons like Venomoth and LEDIAN are pretty dangerous as they can hit a whole room with a chance to omniboost per hit, and since it boosts speed it can just use Silver Wind right after. Now try to imagine the already overpowered Volcarona, with Quiver Dance, Silver Wind and Heat Wave...
I remember I was playing the original PMD and reached the 99F of Purity Forest. I was literally 1 tile away from the stairs to complete the dungeon. A sneaky ass Venomoth appeared and silver winded me to death. I was pissed! 😤
I've ALWAYS FELT that Bug should be SUPER EFFECTIVE against Fairy. It feels like it makes sense for the same reasons it is effective against Psychic and Dark. It hurts me that this is the case.
As WolfeyVGC suggested, X-Scissor should be given a high critical hit ratio, as a lot of cutting and slashing moves have high critical hit ratios, and it would give you a reason to use it over Leech Life and Lunge. It actually did have an increased chance in Legends Arceus, so no idea why it doesn’t also have it in the main series games.
You forgot Escavalier who was a trick room monster with ground coverage, and Kleavor despite not being as viable as Gallade or Samurott with sharpness it had potential to be the most offensive rock set up in the game
How could you possibly forget about everyone's favorite gen 1 bug, Venomoth. It got banned from UU on Gen 6 (until baton pass was banned) and was UU in (the incredibly power crept) Gen 7. Justice for Venomoth.
Ribombee in the Gen 9 DLC has been great for tiers like OU and Ubers, mainly because of its 124 speed and Sticky Web. Other moves it can learn is Quiver Dance, Tailwind, and Stored Power. It has the ability Shield Dust that completely negates secondary effects like flinch from Fake Out and Salt Cure. Ribombee has definitely gotten a glow-up because of terastallization and it deserves the heights it has gotten to now. I personally run a speed control set of the mon on my team and it works pretty good with Alolan Ninetales and other pokemon like Torkoal, Ogerpon-Heartflame, and Walking Wake.
It was also broken in Gen 8 VGC. Durant players had a reputation of always leading Durant and Dynamixing Turn 1, and even knowing this, good players still lost because of how powerful Hustle is.
I like the idea of making all bug types immune to sound based moves. Basically giving them all an extra free ability in soundproof. Seeing as most bugs in real life are deaf. This wouldn’t make the type loads better but could give it a nice niche in doubles and on par with making grass types immune to powder moves.
The next biggest buff is the ability to raise stats with Quiver Dance and Aurora Veil, and only Quiver Dance only benefits the Pokémon that stays in. That does not mean good things for Bug and Ice, though as you said Bug is at least a good defensive type since Ground and Fighting moves are common.
@@Ze_Carrot It's an okay defensive type. Sure, it resists two extremely common offensive types in Fighting Ground, but now it's weak to the super common fire and rock type. That's not a good trade off for being an awful offensive type. Ice Types meanwhile are defensively useless, but do their job well as offensive machines, with mons like Chien Pao, Baxcslibur, and Iron Bundle being banned to Ubers while Alolan Ninetales has carved a niche for itself in OU, not even mentioning mons like Abomasnow in VGC.
Agreed that bug should be super effective against fairy, not the other way around. Fairy already has 2 other resistances and an immunity, so it would be better balanced with a third weakness, and "fairies think bugs are icky" actually has some flavor behind it, unlike "bugs are kinda dark or something and fae are like light and something something good beats evil."
I think bug should not be a type but a egg group. Many pokemon has to be bug because of the appearance, like beedril, it should be flying/poison but is bug/poison
@@alexandresmgc374I don’t think that’d be a good idea. For one, removing any of the types would throw the meta for a loop. And two, what would you do with all the Bug-type Pokémon? Not all of them could easily fit into the Poison-type.
@@alexandresmgc374 thats not an argument to then delete one of the types. That’s an argument to buff them. Also, if the Ice-type is your example of unbalanced, then why propose getting rid of Bug? And if you wanna buff Ice, then just give it more resistances. Make it resist Water-types or one of the other 6 types it’s strong against. The point is: there are better ways to balance the meta than deleting or adding types.
yeah i did a bug monotype through gen 6, there were legit only 7 or 8 bug types i thought were usable (that are obtainable before like badge 7). Vivillon, Scolipede, Vespiquen, trash cloak Wormadam, Crustle, and Mega Pinsir. Scyther and Durant are too late, there's no Araquanid or Ribombee until gen 7, and Volcarona requires the friend safari.
To be honest, they should just give it the dark or grass treatment: make it far more usable at shutting down specific situations. For example, make bug types immune to trick room due to being so "small", make them being immune to being confused because multiple bugs have flawless sense of direction (actually no that sounds horrifying). They clearly do not want to make it a heavy hitter, so make it shut down specific things like grass (immunity to powder moves like the 3 status powders, rage powder and so on) or dark (immune to prankster priority)
Bug type has some of my favourite Pokemon. 2 of my top 10 are Bug types. It's a darn shame that I feel they excell in everything except functioning as a good type. Maybe one day these incredible insects will show off their true potential.
I heard an idea a little while ago from a wolfe video that it'd be cool if Bug was immune to the Confusion status. I think that would be neat. That and making bug a fairy counter would help my fav type be a lot more relevant.
An idea I thought of that idk if other thought, but how about immunity to prankster like dark? Bugs are good at avoiding dangers, so maybe they can avoid prankselter powered moves. Many Pokémon with prankster already have a type which are weak to bug.
I always get a kick out of telling people my favorite Pokemon is a bug type only to reveal it's Volcarona. Sidenote I'm genuinely convinced someone at the Pokemon company maybe even Satoshi Tajiri himself is a Volcarona fan because it has been perpetually getting love since gen 5
Volcarona somehow always benefits from the Generational Gimmick. Types Gems, Z-Moves, Terastalization, etc. Volcarona is just gifted at making everything it touches broken.
@themasterblaze7563 To be fair, it has great stats (at least on the special side, it's physical stats suck), a great boosting move in quiver dance, and an actually pretty good typing with strong STAB moves to go with it. Volcarona has just always been a fundamentally good Pokemon
I really like bug types, so Volcarona has naturally been my favorite pokemon ever since I saw it in gen 5. How can you not love a moth that is said to have replaced the sun?? ...that and 135 base Special Attack with Quiver Dance 😂
@@R0Tl and don't forget also good speed and respectable bulk with a 6 resistances type combination (thou obviously it has to be very careful of rock type moves and SR)
I think you should have mentioned the fact that starting in gen 6, fairy would resist bug, making bug unable to hit the strongest type in the game for neutral damage and also being responsible for the weirdest part of the entire type chart
Fairy and bug is the only interaction that makes literally no sense to me. The fact that game freak have left it untouched for almost 4 gens now is actually embarrassing
I am still confused why Ghost and Fairy resist Bug type. Like, i'm not even hoping Bug become super effective for them, just make them neutral would've been nice
I've always liked the bug Pokémon designs despite them not being so strong, especially from the generations unova and after. Volcarina and golisopod are like my favorite Pokémon aesthetically
1. Pinsir is good in Gen 1. With SD and strong Normal moves, it has potential to sweep weakened teams. The type of Bug isn’t even bad, it’s actually quite good defensively and would be able to attack psychics if it existed at all offensively. It’s only a fringe pick in OU, but it’s better than Scyther, that’s for sure. 2. Ninjask has been pretty good since HDB in Gen 8, actually. It’s not a bad Pokemon these days. 3. Accelgor is basically just a worse Ninjask, and Crustle is probably the worst shell smasher besides Magcargo. They’re better than most bugs in the previous gens but they’re not great. 4. I cannot understand why you write off Durant, beyond it being forgettable. It is better than its counterpart Heatmor by far, with actually decent stats, and has the single strongest turn 1 priority in the entire game with a STAB Hustle-boosted Life Orb boosted First Impression coming off a respectable 109 attack stat, even out-damaging Rillaboom’s Banded Grassy Glide in Grassy Terrain by the slimmest of margins. It has the infamous Bug/Steel typing and can take a hit on the physical side while threatening to OHKO almost everything UU and below and even most of the OU roster as well, provided it hits. It has been UUBL before and was a META pick in early Gen 8 VGC thanks to Dynamax, which makes it the second best Gen 5 bug viability-wise behind only Volcarona (and maybe Baton Pass Scolipede if you include cheese), who is Volcarona. There’s a reason you could only find this thing on Victory Road when it was first introduced. The only reason it isn’t used more is because every move is like Hydro Pump with Hustle, and because Bug/Steel is a relatively poor offensive type combo, but it’s still always been one of the best bug types in any generation it’s in 5. I don’t think Gen 7 was leaving bug types behind, personally. All the new bug types are above average besides Vikavolt who is too slow and frail to do anything besides get knocked out most of the time. It’s about equal with Gen 5 in that most are ok to decent with a few being amazing, in this case Pheromosa and Buzzwole who were Uber and UUBL/OU respectively. Also, this is the generation that introduced First Impression, which is the third best bug move behind U-Turn and Quiver Dance. So I do think that Gen 7 has done more to help the bug type than any other than gen 5 and gen 8 with HDB. 6. Heavy Duty Boots was enough to make a lot of bug types viable in gen 8. It was actually really substantial for the type so I was surprised not to see it mentioned. Many new bug type runs HDB following gen 8 Overall, the Bug Type is actually pretty ok. It’s definitely better than Ice and Rock (in terms of if you’d want to have the type, not use the typed move) and is about on par with Poison. Actually, Poison is a great point of comparison- both are types which are surprisingly ok defensively and terrible offensively, and while poison definitely has better defensive matchups and actually hits a relevant type in Fairy, Bug still has that Ground and Fighting resistance alongside some special tools to help it keep up, those being Sticky Web, Quiver Dance, and First Impression. All imo
> First Impression, which is the third best bug move behind U-Turn and Quiver Dance Bug type moves being strong for their utility is SUPER APPROPRIATE for what the type is, but also means these moves will always be better on Pokemon who are not bug-type
Here is a win for the Bug type. It is currently the best tera type to have on Mew for the Mewtwo raid event with the Bug type attacks Struggle Bug and Leech Life. Take what you can get.
The fact that Ice Types just got Baxcaliber banned and Alolan Ninetales being an amazing mon, meanwhile THIS is what Big Type users celebrate makes me weep for you bug type users.
I find it funny how stealth rock fucks over 2 of the bottom 3 types in Pokémon the most. Some dude at Gf really said “Yknow how ice and bug are really bad? *You ain’t seen nothing yet* “
Make bug Pokémon immune to confusion is a start since they can’t become dizzy. Remove fairies resistance to bug Up the stats of older bug Pokémon like Butterfree, Beedrill, and Mothim. Add low power priority move for bugs and a terrain called “swarm terrain” where the speed of bugs are doubled and grass moves fail (because of bugs eatting it like a locus swarm)
You know I always wanted grass, steel, and poison to have their own equivalent of Tinted Lens so their types have a more offensive edge, especially since grass is resisted by just as many types as bug
armaldo had pottential to be good in gen 3 OU since it had access to both rapid spin and knock off, but unfortunately it could only use one of these moves at a time.
Leavanny got forgotten :( I mean, I get that it has one of the worst defensive type combinations possible but you don't need defense if you strike first and strike hard. ...In the main story at least, I can guess it's extremely bad in competitive
No mention of Sticky Web which is odd, webs provided an actual niche for a lot of bug types that learn it. A bit of a band aid but at least it helped get more bug types on competitive teams It’s also the first great bug move added maybe ever that’s almost exclusive to bug types, only Slurpuff gets it outside of bug types
I think the most important thing to remember is that while Nintendo really loves the free attention that comp pokemon brings, game freaks primary concern is balancing a primarily single player experience that *happens* to have a niche hardcore multiplayer audience. And part of that balance is bug type being weaker because something has to be both an early game enemy AND good enough to use early game but fall off late game to encourage players to diversify.
I remember as a kid in my first play through of gold I wanted Butterfree on my team cause I really like it in the anime but it was so ass felt like I had to switch it out :(
I think fairy shouldn’t have a resistance to bug. Neutral damage makes more sense. On top of that I think Bug has the most potential for unique and powerful abilities. For instance two of the best bugs around both have speed boost. And Shuckle has access to contrary. I think abilities like these that drastically change up how a Pokémon plays beyond just their stats and type, should be standard in making bug type both unique and as a way to really mix up their usage in teams. And finally my last suggestion that is admittedly the hardest to implement. Bugs irl are notoriously difficult to hit. Perhaps naturally having better odds of dodging would make sense. Like any move that doesn’t have fixed and perfect accuracy has a measly 1.5% possibility of missing. This of course wouldn’t matter in the case of attacks like Swift or Arial ace. I imagine this being so small it’d hardly matter.
Don't sleep on Durant, that thing was an RU menace and really cut the mid-tiers to pieces. But overall yeah I do sympathize with the sentiment. I love Bug-Types and they've become one of my favorite types in the game, easily. So many Bug-Types have killer design and really interesting gameplay, but apart from the occasional bone they get, my boyz keep getting neglected.
In my opinion 2 things that would help is bug beating ground as well as resistance to water as many insects live near the water and I actually heard that tarantulas are able to float on water It's either cause how small they are or the thin hairs on there bodies as a barrier between them and water
Assuming they don't change type effectiveness (which they really should, and if they did should also hit up ice type) Then I'd suggest a few things: Namely a freeze-dry type move that is VERY exclusive to the type proper. Ideally hitting fairy, ghost, and/or fighting for super effective. (I'm thinking something like a "soul" attack) You could also have a gimmick move that hits for reverse type effective. As a bug type move that would make it hit the most types for super effective. And be resisted by very few. They could also have their own terrain, or a lingering effect like it. I'd do the latter so its one of the only "terrain" options that can't be countered. Which would give it a lot of staying power. People might feel like theh *need* ro run a bug type that way. (And if thats a problem add a held item that gives the same buff as the effect) For instance, it could be a permanent or 5 turn "terrain" that lays down silk. Then any of these kind of effects: All non-bug non-floating pokemon lose 20% speed while on it. Bug-type moves get a 30% boost. Bug-types recover HP when switched out. I also wouldn't mind more and better abilities that are basically bug only. I cpuld see swarm getting a boost as well. Such as making them gain a buff when on grassy terrain for example.
Forretress and Heracross were killers from the moment they dropped. Obviously their viability changed as power creep and physical/special split happened, but then Unova gave us all the cool bugs to play with. It's definitely a sub-optimal type in itself, but you could still easily roll up to OU with said type on your team and nobody with any actual knowledge of the game would write you off.
At this point, I think it safe to say Bug is a purposely underpowered type. You're not supposed to bring a bug type to high-end play, barring very specific examples that are strong in spite of it rather than because of it.
defensively speaking the bug type isn't really bad. it is a worse flying type, but it is not bad. resisting ground and fighting is always a good thing defensively. who knows, if we are lucky maybe the new rainbow tera type will reverse the resistances and the bug type will be a force to be wreckoned with offensively.
Now you have me wanting to do a Bug Only run JPR! Volcarona and Beedrill are two of my fav Pokemon too so this’ll be fun! As for fixing bug types, I’d actually introduce a new weather condition: Pollen Warning. Bug types get a 1.5x damage modifier while also reducing super effective damage by 20%. That would be pretty cool imo
i remember bug being weak to poison in the first gen then just effective in gen 2 onwards. I always thought it was a nod to how bugs will often gain resistance or immunity to poisons used to kill them over time. I kind of wish it would alternate (weak to poison gen 1, effective gen 2, resist gen 3, immune gen 4, and back to super effective in gen 5)
Volcarona, Golisopod, Genesect, Buzzswole, Beedrill, Bug-type Arceus, Pheromosa and Lokix are all goated bug types in my opinion but notice how most of them are either mythical or ultra beasts which are quite sad because the rest that might be cool looking or your favorite aren't really that great competitively or for story mode except for a niche or only good for a small amount time unlike the others I mentioned except for like Beedrill and potentially Lokix.
No mention of gen 1 pinsir, the actual strongest bug type in gen 1, Leavanny is completely left out despite being pretty good in game, Scolipede's stat buffs are missed when talking about his gen VI buff, no mention of tinted lens despite being almost exclusively a bug type ability. And though frosmoth isn't very good, its ability definitely is. Ice Scales at least deserved a brief mention. Type matchups are also a pretty important thing to mention for a video like this. The fact that almost half of all types resist it is pretty crazy. Defensively though, it does a decent job. Being able to resist close combat and earthquake is always a plus. Not sensing much love for the bug type from this video, which is a shame because it's one of my favorite types.
I think bug was genuinely supposed to be a joke type or at least were not to be used permanently for the entire game. Look at the roster across the first 4 gens- except heracross, scyther line, armaldo and forretress all the bug types are early route weak pokemon where the base stats barely cross 400. There were no good bug moves except HP bug, twineedle, megahorn. It’s one of the worst defensive types, it’s only key resistance being the omnipresent ground type They were supposed to be the early game mini bosses that teach you about stuff like paralysis, sleep and poison (hence they have the powder moves that spread status) but then they had to make a bug type elite 4 member and they saw how pathetic the type was, which is why his ace is not even a bug type. This influences the introduction of better bugs in gen 5 like scolipede, escavalier, durant and most importantly genesect
Araquanid with leech life was amazing. But types could get a buff through a bug only item like black sludge for poison types. Like…silk sack: gives bug type Pokémon a 30% defense and special defense buff or Pheromone spray: single use item that gives bug Pokémon an evasion buff when they use a bug move.
No mention of Scizor? Once that thing got Bullet Punch on top of U-Turn and Technician as an ability it became one of the best mons in gen 4. Yes that has more to do with its excellent Steel typing, but Scizor was an example of how good Bug types could be.
Just Technician and proper dual-STAB made it better. Gaining Bullet Punch and Superpower in Platinum just sealed the deal. Certainly more due to being a Steel type and with the combined Bug typing leaving it a single weakness but still a major success story.
My absolute favorite bug type. Spent alot of time raising a good one I used for online battles. Bred a gliscore with baton pass and swords dance to set it up. Threw an assault vest on him to help against things trying to take it down with fire. Faired well most of the time and swept most opponents
Ledian could actually be usable in a Gen II playthrough because it got dual screen protection and access to Ice and Thunder Punch (which were special moves in this era)
ngl when I played Crystal, Fury Cutter on Heracross was doing ok, but that's likely due to the badge boost system in gen 2. That said, getting Megahorn after so long just made me go "finally, goodbye Fury Cutter".
5:25 u turn is a huge buff to bugs as it made switching more punishing. Not only does your opponent lose momentum, but it loses a decent chunk of health from stab u turn. U turn alone made bug an actual relevant attacking type. Mons like scizor wouldn’t be as good as it is now without it as it has the strongest u turn. One of the primary reason gensect got ban was because it was so hard to switch into it and u turn was a huge factor in this.
Make Bugs immune to confusion (they lack the semi-circular canals to be disorientated the traditional way), this not only makes them immune to incoming confusion attacks, but also makes them great targets for Flatter and Swagger, as well as giving them a leg up when using Thrash, Petal Dance, or Outrage. As for Type coverage, make them resist Fairy and deal super effective damage against Fairy and Electric (small insects are capable of shorting out circuitry) Lastly, change First Impression to a Base 45 move, but you can use it all the time and it's power is doubled if its your opening move. Also improve its distribution.
Give bugs super eff. against poison again but just the one way and make it take neutral damage from poison and make it super eff. to and resist fairy. Grant passive immunity to any bug type status moves from opponents. Not much on that last thing but hey in game against early npcs for little kids, maybe be useful there. No more string shot miss fests if you just catch an early game bug like they want you to anyway
I'd get rid of the weakness to rock and make it effective against ground. Just to add a little chaos. Also, because most bugs make nests in the ground.
If I would buff Bugs, I would make them able to hit Ghost and Fairy types for neutral. Maybe it's a little extreme, but I would also make them all immune to flinching. That way, all of them can set up their Quiver Dances/Swords Dances more easily.
When we look at the bottom tier types, they offer some merits: - Poison has 3rd most resistances in 5 - Grass resists common attacking types & is fully immune to powder moves, which are highly prevalent in VGC - While Rock moves have shaky accuracy, when they land on targets they do a lot of damage & starting with G4 their SpD increases by 1.5× under Sand. - In terms of offense & defence, Ice is atleast good at 1 of those things whereas Bug fails at doing both. Barring a few exceptions as always, what do you achieve by using Bug Pkmn? It's resisted by 7 types & weak to (Stealth) Rock. For some unknown reason, they thought Fairy wasn't good enuf so it was given a 3rd resistance & out of all the types, Bug was chosen to be that.
I like type uniqueness traits like how dark Pokémon are immune to prankster or their moves have unique secondary affects. I think but would benefit from something like that. Maybe in game a natural evasion buff as bugs are notoriously hard to kill…maybe an ability like swarm is activated once a bug is damaged and not below 33%. Something to really justify its use.
I remember Araquanid being pretty good. Spidops had potential to be pretty good, but they decided to give it a ridiculously horrible BST. Kleavor is pretty nice, sporting decent speed, pretty high attack, and it's exclusive move that essentially is Stealth Rock but also does damage, with an ability that gives a 50% buff to cutting-type attacks. I actually used to use Vivillon in Gen VI, as fire-type attacks were super predictable and Vivillon had access to a somewhat strange move called "Powder". Galvantula and now Vikavolt have access to Sticky Web, which can be incredibly useful. Vikavolt has Levitate, which leave it only weak to Rock and Fire initially. I think Bug-types are currently in a good spot.
I think a strong Bug type move that is available to all Bug types. Sort of like how Earthquake is usable by all Ground types, and Close Combat to fighting types. Bugs have Quiver Dance and Megahorn but they aren’t usable by all bugs.
3:50 That seems a bit harsh. The Browns at least had 2 OT losses that year. That's slightly better than the outright humiliation that the Gen 3 Bug team would face.
gen 3 heracross was bomb. Without close combat, your fighting stab would be brick break, reversal or focus punch which may not be as spammable but the gimmick nature of these moves makes heracross high risk, high reward and very fun.
I don't feel like Brock is much of a wall for bugs in gen 1, only the weedle family. In yellow the only reason I beat Brock was because I evolved a caterpie to butterfree and just confusion my way to victory (side note/tangent butterfree should have been bug/psychic due to it learning way more psychic moves but sure whatever gamefreak). I think bug pokemon as a whole just need a few better moves and for the love of everything make their fully evolved forms not have horrendous base stats, grassy terrain should also affect bugs in a positive way imo.
Fairy types shouldnt be able to resist bugs in fact Bug types should be immune to charm effects as i stop to think about it. Why would a giant stag beetle become infatuated with a mammal or anyother type of pokemon
One big turnoff when it comes to bug types is the type chart. All moves that fairy doesnt hit into effectively bug doesnt either, making it offensivelg redundant. Bug types have 3 resistances, flying types resist 2 of those, immune to the other, and resists bug... I was thinking that bug can resist something the flying type doesnt (not what for sure), and that psychics resist fairy type moves. Phychics need a small bjff as well and gives bug moves a reason to use since fairy already does everything bugs can't do and what bugs can do.
Ya, the achievements in black n white 2 were awesome n I loved showing off to everyone how I got the achievements for beating the elite four n champion with a full bug n full fire team at the same time just by using Volcarona n a focus sash (the 48 bop for the sash was the hardest part to be honest 😹)
I'm proud of my lil scyther with technician being able to slap on 5 star raids and even win 6 star raids when the odds are in its favour. I just spam wing attack tho. It has no bug type moves.
If I were fixing the bug type I would add: Resistance to Fairy and Psychic Super effectiveness to Fairy Stat buffs to multiple bug Pokémon (Lokix, Ledian, Krikitune, etc) That should bring the type up from D tier to a solid B.
I think you kind of glossed over a couple of Pokémon who can be good if you know how to use them. Ribbombie and Orbeetle can both be great support Pokémon while Centiskorch and Frosmoth are a good wallbreaker / setup sweeper respectively. The Bug/Steel combinations (Scizor and Escavalier) also deserve a closer look having only one weakness and being superb physical attackers. As for unique Bug type tools I think that Quiver Dance, First Impression and Sticky Web are very good already and by now they are also available on many of the Bug type Pokémon.
Defensively speaking the Bug typing pairs *beautifully* with Steel. Imo it's one of the best dual typings out there. The Bug typing turn Steel's weakness to Fighting and Ground into a neutrality and the Steel typing eliminates Rock and Flying as weaknesses. Becoming neutral to both. And that comes at the reasonable cost of a 4x weakness to Fire
I remember that Misty really didn't like bug types and as far as her Misty not liking bug types I would say that she's definitely got some pretty good reasons for not liking bug types.
Happy JPR Friday!! How would you fix the Bug type?
Give it the poison weakness back.
"That's a neet part, you don't"
1. Nerf Steel
2. Nerf Fairy INTO THE GROUND
3. Make Bug super effective to Fairy as well as resist Fairy and straight up IMMUNE to Poison
4. Add the Bug Type terrain from Masters
5. Buff Hydreigon until its God. Sure, its not a Bug Type, but its weak to Bug, so by buffing it, it retroactively buffs Bugs and makes my dreams reality.
6. Make Victory Dance avaliable to physical attacking Bugs, namely Scizor and Heracross, to contrast Quiver Dance Bugs like Venomoth and Volcarona
just create other good bug pokemon and really good grass dark or psychic ones and idk maybe give it back the poison weakness
1. Make Bug resist Fairy, Psychic, and Dark moves
2. Make Fairy weak to Bug
You missed Ribombee who is pretty nice for an in-game run and I heard it had some use in Ubers. Not a bad mon
fastest sticky web + fairy type?
@@sejt23pretty much but it’s more of a gimmick than anything
Decent stats with a good secondary typing and Quiver Dance, pretty alright
Ribombee has the niche of being the fastest sticky web user out of gate, tho It competes mostly with shuckle due to its absurd bulk, sturdy ability meaning It cant be taunted while holding a mental herb and potentially being able to put up rocks as well
@@joaopedrorossi3018 exactly, shuckle offers more as a support mon through spikes, toxic, stealth rock and of course webs, infestation is nice on an okay bulky mon, plus mental herb and sturdy ensures you at least get one hazard up

Quiver Dance Venomoth, Destroyer of UU, would like a word
but there’s also dustox, masquerain, wormadam who are bad even with quiver dance
@@axyzsz8162It's because pretty much everything that they gave quiver dance to is based on a butterfly or moth, and bug Pokemon unfortunately usually don't have good stats. If you want a good quiver dance user, you have the choice between Venomoth, Ribombee, or Volcarona, and that's pretty much it
Ah yes, our moth God, not only destroyer of UU... also ATV, the Divine Overlord of RUBL.
Thats why its UU and not OU tho

I miss having the move Signal Beam as a coverage move for my team. I used to shut down psychic and dark types with it all the time.
I know, right? WHY WOULD THEY REMOVE IT?! Especially since they kept in legitimately awful moves like Kinesis and Snore!
Bug types are only a really good choice in Gen 8 and 9 and that is more that Grass and Dark type bosses are early than anything good.
I feel a big issue with the bug type is a lack of unique and creative dual types. Like to this day im still angry yanmega is not a bug dragon.
If I had to fix bug I'd add a freeze dry style move where it's a bug type attack that gets super effective damage on fighting types
Infection?
Maybe have it be physical so as to complement Freeze Dry or like Salt Cure, but specially based?
Skin Crawl
@@nunyabiznes33 Self explanatory
I replaced heat wave with flamethrower, was that a good idea
Not in MD. @@TheBoringLlama
lmao yeah moves that cover the whole room are reallly really good, same with attacks like fury attack, bullet seed, pin missile ect
Didn't they nuked silver wind couple gens ago?
I remember I was playing the original PMD and reached the 99F of Purity Forest. I was literally 1 tile away from the stairs to complete the dungeon. A sneaky ass Venomoth appeared and silver winded me to death. I was pissed! 😤
I've ALWAYS FELT that Bug should be SUPER EFFECTIVE against Fairy. It feels like it makes sense for the same reasons it is effective against Psychic and Dark. It hurts me that this is the case.
Maybe they'll patch it in Gen X? Once upon a time, Electric-types weren't immune to paralysis.
A lot of moves in PLA were much better.
Bitter Malice on H-Zoroark got massacred.
It doesn't?
It should also get a BP boost.Bug is such a bad type 100 wouldn't make it broken.
Oh, yeah. That one Bug-type that belonged to...
*WHO?!*
(I'm not dissing Venomoth, I'm just drawing a parallel to another forgotten character.)
Durant is pretty decent in game. I used one in a Bug Locke on Sword and it was the 2nd best mon I had behind Scyther
I feel like he doesn’t know the sweeping potential of orbeetle
In my most recent play though of pokemon black I used a durant and it's been super helpful though I wouldn't have used it if it wasn't shiny
The biggest buff to Bug and Ice Types is the ability to not be those types
No bug is an actually gopd defensive type ice just sucks Defensecly
The next biggest buff is the ability to raise stats with Quiver Dance and Aurora Veil, and only Quiver Dance only benefits the Pokémon that stays in. That does not mean good things for Bug and Ice, though as you said Bug is at least a good defensive type since Ground and Fighting moves are common.
@Ze_Carrot bug resisting both fighting and ground led to Bug/Steel being one of the best type combos. But offensively bug needs some buffs big time
@@LegendaryCaptain your comment was completely useless u just said "i agree" in long
@@Ze_Carrot
It's an okay defensive type.
In Unova, even Leavanny, the bad bug, is a good choice for the main game.
Swords Dance+Leaf Blade is no joke
Yeah bug should be super effective against fairy and not be resisted by ghost.
@@superfox5707 the chart type is a mess and not balanced already! Just look the ice type , JUST ONE resistant and is ICE ! THAT'S IS STUPID
@@superfox5707 well , if is not poison type, can be dark type! Like pinsir, or dragon like yamega !! Or can be very creative
I just finished an all bug type playthrough in ORAS, and I completely forgot to even catch Volbeat and Illumise
They are really really forgettable😅😅😅
I remembered volbeat but literally couldn't care enough to hunt for Illumise
yeah i did a bug monotype through gen 6, there were legit only 7 or 8 bug types i thought were usable (that are obtainable before like badge 7).
Who wouldn't love a Sun blessed moth with boots that likes to Dance? Volcarona ftW
@@wentoneisendon6502I've always thought the resistance should be mutual. At least Bugs would be able wall the dragonslayers.
And GF also removed Psychic's resistance to Fairy, making Bug even less viable.
The only reason it isn’t used more is because every move is like Hydro Pump with Hustle, and because Bug/Steel is a relatively poor offensive type combo, but it’s still always been one of the best bug types in any generation it’s in
Many new bug type runs HDB following gen 8
Overall, the Bug Type is actually pretty ok. All imo
> First Impression, which is the third best bug move behind U-Turn and Quiver Dance
Bug type moves being strong for their utility is SUPER APPROPRIATE for what the type is, but also means these moves will always be better on Pokemon who are not bug-type
I'm curious about the poison video considering that was literally the most common type back in gen 1
Great comment
Here is a win for the Bug type. It is currently the best tera type to have on Mew for the Mewtwo raid event with the Bug type attacks Struggle Bug and Leech Life. Take what you can get.
The fact that Ice Types just got Baxcaliber banned and Alolan Ninetales being an amazing mon, meanwhile THIS is what Big Type users celebrate makes me weep for you bug type users.
@@Endershock1678 ikr? also "take what you can get" ? lmao this person wants bug type to stay in the dirt with that mentality
I find it funny how stealth rock fucks over 2 of the bottom 3 types in Pokémon the most. Some dude at Gf really said “Yknow how ice and bug are really bad? *You ain’t seen nothing yet* “
What are you talking about with Durant being bad? The guy does so much damage with Hustle
Make bug Pokémon immune to confusion is a start since they can’t become dizzy.
Remove fairies resistance to bug
Up the stats of older bug Pokémon like Butterfree, Beedrill, and Mothim.
Add low power priority move for bugs and a terrain called “swarm terrain” where the speed of bugs are doubled and grass moves fail (because of bugs eatting it like a locus swarm)
Bug fixes: immune to sound moves, make fairy weak to bug, introduce more bug type moves and strong bug types.
Araquanid is an underrated bug in gen 7! Had a great time playing thru alola with them
Leavanny got forgotten :(
I mean, I get that it has one of the worst defensive type combinations possible but you don't need defense if you strike first and strike hard.

How to "fix" Bug
#1. Bug types cannot be trapped
#2. Bug is super effective against Ghost
#3. Bug resist Poison

A description so perfect, it must have been divinely inspired.
I know you are right about the gen 3 ones, but I still like them all a lot.
Maybe a Bug type move that's super effective against Fairy, in the ways that Freeze Dry or Salt Cure are?
Make it a powder move, and we'll be in business. I'd really like to see that.
I would make bugs immune to sticky webs. Its not much but something of an improvement
You never mentioned the introduction of sticky web
bruh how'd you disrespect durant like that? man is pretty good
It might be a bad type. But at least they are some cool favourites like Butterfree, Heracross, and Volcarona (AKA the strongest bug type)
Shuckle disrespect will not be tolerated
I'm not a big Gen 5 fan, but this generation's revamp of the bug type made it my favorite type moving forward
In my opinion 2 things that would help is bug beating ground as well as resistance to water as many insects live near the water and I actually heard that tarantulas are able to float on water
It's either cause how small they are or the thin hairs on there bodies as a barrier between them and water
Assuming they don't change type effectiveness (which they really should, and if they did should also hit up ice type)
Then I'd suggest a few things:
Namely a freeze-dry type move that is VERY exclusive to the type proper. Ideally hitting fairy, ghost, and/or fighting for super effective. (I'm thinking something like a "soul" attack)
You could also have a gimmick move that hits for reverse type effective.
(And if thats a problem add a held item that gives the same buff as the effect)
For instance, it could be a permanent or 5 turn "terrain" that lays down silk. Then any of these kind of effects:
All non-bug non-floating pokemon lose 20% speed while on it.
To make bug types better, drop the weakness to ghost. Also make them super effective against fairy.
Ghost? Bugs aren't weak to ghost.

Resistance is what I meant, my bad.
@@AHomelessShoeok well it's gotta make sense too why should bugs resist ghost

i remember bug being weak to poison in the first gen then just effective in gen 2 onwards.
Volcarona's more like a rare bug. Hell, in Scarlet and Violet you can catch its pre-evo Larvesta.
It’s one of the worst defensive types, it’s only key resistance being the omnipresent ground type
They were supposed to be the early game mini bosses that teach you about stuff like paralysis, sleep and poison (hence they have the powder moves that spread status) but then they had to make a bug type elite 4 member and they saw how pathetic the type was, which is why his ace is not even a bug type.
The bug type has improved so much. Orbeetle, Vikavolt, and Golisopod are so of my favorite bugs.
ngl when I played Crystal, Fury Cutter on Heracross was doing ok, but that's likely due to the badge boost system in gen 2.
As for Type coverage, make them resist Fairy and deal super effective damage against Fairy and Electric (small insects are capable of shorting out circuitry)
Lastly, change First Impression to a Base 45 move, but you can use it all the time and it's power is doubled if its your opening move.
I was thinking just earlier this week that fairy should’ve been made weak to bug instead. Funny.
My buff would be a terrain or weather effect that boosts their evasiveness since that's what I see bugs as. Glass canons that are hard to catch.
When we look at the bottom tier types, they offer some merits: - Poison has 3rd most resistances in 5
- Grass resists common attacking types & is fully immune to powder moves, which are highly prevalent in VGC
- While Rock moves have shaky accuracy, when they land on targets they do a lot of damage & starting with G4 their SpD increases by 1.5× under Sand.
Now let’s talk about the Rock type to complete the holy trinity of the worst types in the game (or quad-trilogy if you think Grass is bad)
Am I crazy or did he not mention Vikavolt at all
gen 3 heracross was bomb. Without close combat, your fighting stab would be brick break, reversal or focus punch which may not be as spammable but the gimmick nature of these moves makes heracross high risk, high reward and very fun.
My fav type ( along with water) since gen 5, when they introduced the coolest bugs mon
That charmelon back sprite has haunted me for 25 years.
If I were fixing the bug type I would add:
Resistance to Fairy and Psychic
Super effectiveness to Fairy
Stat buffs to multiple bug Pokémon (Lokix, Ledian, Krikitune, etc)
That should bring the type up from D tier to a solid B.
Durant is pretty amazing tbh. Hustles accuracy drop can be offset with 1-2 hone claws and is deceptively fast.
Never drop matches in a public toilet, the crabs can pole vault.
