Dude. You will love a 7.3. I am a senior in high school and I bought a 1997 7.3 off of a guy for 2 grand and a Toro commercial zero turn. It ran, just needed some body work. Remove the turbo silencer ring and a true straight 5 inch pipe from the turbo outlet coming out before the rear axle is the loudest you can get it besides a good stack. I love it though.
Beautiful truck. I just picked up a 97 7.3 HD extended cab short bed this past weekend down past griffin Georgia. Drove it home and she purrs like a kitten!
Dude I just picked up the same exact truck!!! Mines 1997, same color, mine has power windows, 4x4, XLT, camper special, 257k miles, interior is surprisingly as mint as yours it’s hard to believe me but it’s true. Still can’t believe I found one this clean in Georgia, it’s my dream truck. I had to have mine shortbed, crew cab, 4x4. This video is spot on cause you just can’t find these things for a good price ANYWHERE. Great video
Gorgeous truck . Me too I love that startup sound , and the way they sound stock is just amazing. I'd buy one of these instead of anything new any day.
The good old, quickie mechanical sound of the Unkillable Navi star T4 144E better known as the Ford power stroke engine. You think a 7.3 L sounds sexy, wait till you hear 6 L, especially when one is primed say I don't know after replacing an HP or something. Personally, the 19 94 1/2 to 19,97 first generation single shot injector power strokes sound the best. I have to say, the song of the in-line six turbo charged 5.9 L Cummins, is music, especially if you put it behind a manual. Same with a 7.3 L, they just all sound really good couple to a five or 6 feet. if you want to go old school, the grandfather of them all, the 6.9 and 7.3 L naturally aspirated IDI engines by international harvester and Navy star international. 7.3 L power stroke, hands-down! There's nothing like that smell! I've started so many of these on a cold morning, it's the best music around. The AI 7.3 L, though it's a little more special, I grew up around it, and my neighbor had one that always refused to start at 5:30 my clockwork every morning. Typical whiny international starters that have had. If you didn't wear it down by cranking on it like he did. That was the sound I grew up with. So when a friend of mine and bought an extended cab, 1992 turbo charged, I was all for it! The T4 144E, for example, a UPS truck, really sounds phenomenal.
I love the sound too! I’ve always wanted a truck like that. Now, I’m a full-size sedan person. But, I still love the sound of a good ol Ford Powerstroke!
I'm a Ford guy through and through, but I believe that the 7.3 comes in at 2nd best. A 5.9 12v Cummins is indestructible besides the truck it came in lol
copper head1802 the cummins has lasted hundreds of thousands of miles upto or over a million. When the trucks go the motor is pulled and put on pumps.
I have two disagree. I've owned two 7.3s and two cummins, a 12v and 24v. 7.3 is definitely the best! Never known anyone with a Cummins that had a stock motor more than 300k. Usually they need a rebuild before that. I've seen and worked on 7.3s that had over 700k stock. Just my two cents.
I have a 1994 F250 crew cab long bed manual. Anyone who has an 7.3 manual knows the terrible gear ratios like you mentioned however I am quite bothered by the fact I go 65 at 4000 rpms so I have a transmission out of my 2003 Tacoma and since I use that truck for just getting around the tight areas with a trailer I don’t need it to go 80 mph so I put the transmission from the F250 in it. I had to do a little modification to get it to fit but at least now im not in 3rd driving around the parking lot. It’s true that the 7.3 does the best in cold weather. I had it sitting out in that cold spell kalispell got with -60 wind chill. I came out the next day and it was around -10 so not too bad. It took a second to start cranking for about 15 seconds and after 3 glow plug cycles but started up and idled fine. Drove it to breakfast reminding myself how I’m glad I’m not in 4th going 40
I enjoyed the ride-along in your truck. You did a great job refurbishing it. I've got a 1997 E350 van with the 7.3. It's ugly compared to the pickups, but it's so smooth on the road. It powers over the hills and around curves effortlessly. I have no issue firing it up in cold weather. It's a dependable truck. I have an opportunity to grab a 1997 regular cab 4x4 F350 dually with the 7.3. It hasn't been used in our winters so there's no salt damage. Going to check it over tomorrow. I was issued a 6.0 F350 4x4 crewcab back in 2004. That was a great truck other than a couple injectors that needed attention. I trust the 7.3 more though
Gorgeous truck man. I’m with you on the simpler times. I work on cars and trucks every day for a living and i wish i could get something new with none of the infotainment.
I'm the original owner of a 1996 F250 Powerstroke, increased the downpipe size and exhaust, also chipped it, I did it all in 1996 at Randy's 6:15 off road, can smoke the tires right off.
Really nice truck! I love the sound of the 7.3 and I agree there will never be a truck like this again. Neat you found an automatic crew cab, too! This was an iconic truck back in the day as well. I hope it brings you years of adventures.
Great Truck, Brother! I love it so much! Crew cab, short bed FORD F250 with the 7.3 V8 Turbo Diesel! What can I say? Just my dream! Who knows, maybe one day .... Greetings from Europe, Brother! Big 👍
Got the same thing but with gray interior. Biggest mod was replacing the rear tank with a 38 gallon. Spare goes in the bed now, but I can drive from L.A. to Eugene before refueling.
The sound of that 7.3L reminds me of my high school days! I used to ride a bus that was a 1997 Ford Econoline cutaway chassis with a corbeil body! Fleet ID 927607 (How I can remember this over 20 years ago is beyond me LoL!) I had my portable CD player but I loved listening to the sound of that engine more and the bus driver had a heavy foot so I got to hear the engine rev high until the automatic transmission went into the next gear! It is a shame almost all of the van chassis buses now have gas engines as the last year of a diesel option was 2010 for Ford (6.0L) and the last year of the 7.3: PowerStroke was 2003
My 97’ f250hd very very nice condition in and out, new tires, 93k original miles., near perfect interior and dash, original am/fm cd player, nothing broken anywhere on it, no dents very nice paint, has a major flaw. It’s a 460! It doesn’t leak a drop or burn oil but it sucks gas like a battle tank.🤣😭😆
That’s such a weird combination, a leather wrapped steering wheel with cruise control, front manual windows/ manual locks/ XL door panels, 40/2040 front seat, Alcoa aluminum wheels, and body side moldings. Is it an XL or an XLT? It’s hard to believe it’s an XLT without power windows and locks
I’ve seen a guy swap a cat into this style f250, and added the 2010s larait interior with a custom digital dash that had caterpillar and ford light up on start, that was cool
I always found it odd that the OBS trucks of that era had digital odometers but then the early SD’s (newer truck) went back to the old analog rolodex type. And I’m with you on hard to find trucks. I’m always on the lookout for 4x2 duallys…just because I like their stance. But they are not easy to find.

40° is not cold at all. It's rather balmy. I'm in south Idah, and it gets down to single digits but mainly in the teens and low 20s. Just add some diesel fuel additive tothe diesel, and you're good.
I've had a couple of the zf5 speeds and a couple automatics it seems like the automatics are a lot more doggish starting off once they get going you're better and low-end torque but it seems like the zfi speed if you can shift fast enough you can you get a lot more power from that engine out of a zf5 cuz it takes awhile to get up to speed with an automatic especially if you got like a dump truck
I mean 7.3s are great engines, and they do sound absolutely awesome, but the Cummins takes the cake. We can all agree on one thing tho, chevy diesels are at the bottom of the list.

And maybe an extra gear because 550’s have like an 5.30 rear end or something like that so my fourth gear is like your third lol. She’s slow
Hey there! I'm so sorry to be a bother, but I have a question regarding the 6.0 Excursion you had. You had rebuilt the engine and redid the transmission, and I'd love to take my X wherever you went to do the same thing! Thank you!! (I'll write this comment on a few videos because I can't find a way to contact you... Sorry again, and thanks ahead of time!!!)
As a 16 year old who drives a 2010 ford mustang I have always wanted a truck like this! I have always had a passion for old trucks and muscle cars
