    You did great for MMM, we always say just reading one book is participating.
    I do get the overwhelming want to participate in all the things lol. There are so many things going on!

      Thanks! Yes the pressure is completely self inflicted! 😅 It’s good to have choice and I think it’s so fun that you all are taking the initiative to create something for us all to be part of. I had a great time 😊

    Ellen, this was a great video! I would definitely recommend another Agatha Christie. Roger Ackroyd is certainly one of her most famous books, but it’s also kind of famous because it broke some cardinal rules of murder mystery writing. I’m not sure what sounded weird in Swedish. She does have some language that is definitely dated, but usually she’s fairly straightforward. Maybe see how you find her in English? Anyway, I loved your video! Very well done!

      Thank you so much Pat! I did like the story but I'm curious to try a few more of her mysteries, and probably in English next time! I think it must have been the old translation. There were mostly things where I could "hear" what the English word would be, like someone saying "Oh?" or "Well?" and wanting the other person to go on telling them stuff, but the translation would more sound like "So?" 😅 So very small things, but often enough to be annoying! Do you have any favorites of her other ones that I could keep an eye out for?

    Read a lot of Agatha Christie when I was younger. Not read any in a long time but picked up a couple recently. Best wishes with what you choose to read.

    I think you should do your channel however you want! I'm actually going to start playing around with how I do reviews of what I've been reading. Currently I do weekly wrapups and monthly wrapups but I think I might move to just posting reviews of individual books as I read them. I don't know; we'll see how I end up working it! At any rate, do it however you want to! That is a good question about Agatha Christie. I think there are probably some older words and turns of phrase in English, but it reads easily I think. As an English speaker, I didn't find anything jarring in it if that helps.

      Thank you for your comment! :) I agree, I think everyone should just do what suits them. And that might change over time, of course. I think it's been so drilled into us all that things have to been done in certain ways, not least on TH-cam, but I think people enjoy originality just as much as predictability. A mix is probably good!
      Yes, that seems to be the consensus on Agatha Christie! I'll definitely read in English next time. Thank you for your input, it does help ☺

    I have been wanting to read The Maid - sounds interesting. Michaeledes had a book of the month recently. I think it was about murders in a resort in Greece....it SOUNDED good, but kind of glad i passed.

      Yeah The Maid was good! I haven’t read many cozy mysteries before, but I thought it did it well. I’m not very keen on the Fury either, I think that’s the one you’re referring to. But I would like to read The Silent Patient by him, it has a lot higher rating. I just thought the premise sounded so good for the Maidens, but… oh well! 😅

    I'm obviously not a native English speaker, but Agatha Christie in English sounds very normal to me. I 100% recommend reading her in English. If you like audiobooks. I recommend listening to the ones narrated by Hugh Fraser and Emilia Fox.

    Ahhh I hope you love Yellowface, I couldn’t stop listening to it!! Glad you liked The Maid. And I was also disappointed by The Maidens, I loved The Silent Patient but this one was a letdown! 😬

      Haha I’m having mixed feeling about that too! I feel like Goldilocks 😅 But the the Maid was good, the Maidens had its good aspects as well, but did not live up to expectations. I feel like the marketing of it did it a disservice. I’m still willing to try the Silent Patient though, I feel like the two books following that might have been rushed to sort of ride the wave of success. So I feel like it’s not the authors fault I guess.

      @@ellenmadebookclub haha well sometimes books are just confusing and that’s okay! 😂 And yeah that makes sense about The Maidens/his newer books in general, I do want to read The Fury to see what I think but it may be hard to top The Silent Patient, for me at least!!

    I have been trying to think about the BookTube systems and the types of videos I "have" to do or not do. It's a tough one for me to think through. lol I read The Murder of Roger Ackroyd last year and had a hard time getting through it. But I have enjoyed some of her other books in the past. I love your fun editing too! (Not that Dr. shepherd 😂 so great!)

      It is tough! You don’t “have to” do any of them though. If numbers are important, which they can be for a number of reasons, it might be smart to be strategic, but for me I think I just want to feed my soul as much as possible and you’re all welcome to join me of course, but in the end I can’t do it for anyone but myself. But it’s tricky to know sometimes what’s what!
      Good to know about Christie! Was this one in particular more difficult language-wise or was it the story that hooked you less?
      Thank you so much 😊 💜

    • @BonnieNicoleWrites
      @BonnieNicoleWrites 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ellenmadebookclub I think I will end up in much the same place. If it's not feeding my soul, even if it's strategic, I would probably grow to resent it. Maybe I'll find my sweet spot of what I want and some strategy too. lol
      I think that it was more so the story itself that I didn't get into for the Agatha Christie book. I read it for a book club so I just kept having to pull my mind back in to focus so that I could go over it with my friends.

    • @ellenmadebookclub
      @ellenmadebookclub  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BonnieNicoleWrites Yes! Find that sweet spot and let us all know where it is! 😄 I mean, a mix could work too.
      Yeah, I was a bit of an effort for me too, I had to will myself to pick it up at times. I listened to part of the second half on audiobook and that helped, and then I liked the story more. I'll try some other ones and see how I like them!
