How can I get Psychoanalysis for free??? I live in the USA in California about 1 hour from San Francisco where there should be analysts but how can I find one that is even fairly affordable?

If you do not value your labor, why should anyone else?

Is psychoanalysis a commodity to be purchased? The labor (and the training, experience, commitment...) is valuable--but how should the person (worker) who provides it be compensated?

Ha ha, great question! I think offering psychoanalytic education for free can co-exist with us working as psychoanalysts (and getting paid for doing our job).

In the United States it certainly isn't free. In New York City rates can exceed $300 for less than an hour. And around NYC there are plenty of sliding scales that hover around $150 to $250. Even where insurance covers part of this it can be too expensive except for a narrow portion of society. I'm relatively new to psychoanalysis but find it very helpful--and as a result the idea of making it free is attractive as more people can benefit from it. Maybe if we relieved tax payers from paying for bloated military budgets the much smaller expenditures on public health and therapy would be more popular.
