- Cécile Chaminade (1857-1944) was a French composer and pianist. She is one of the few female composers we know. This piece, the Flute Concertino in D major, op. 107, was composed in 1902 for flute and piano. Years later, the composer arranged it for flute and orchestra. It was a commission for the Paris Conservatoire in 1902 dedicated to Paul Taffanel.
Flute: James Galway
Piano: Phillip Moll

This was my sweet, baby brother's audition song for first chair flute at CDH highschool in MN. He died a little over a month ago. I love you, Mikey.
sorry for your loss
I’m so sorry ❤
You can not learn breathing intervals from Sir James Galway, because he said he never thought it was problem for him. He can breath whenever he think is necessary.
I still remember being in HS band as a sophomore and hearing our senior soloist play this at the final concert of the year. Such an amazing piece of music!
I played this my senior year for my high school talent show. I won 1st place.
@@lorrieprothero2175 Hey, even though that might have been years ago, congrats!
@@PunmasterSTP i have taken a huge hiatus and am returning after a 10 year break. I don't know if I'll ever return to my former dexterity glory but i still have the musicianship in me. I can play mary had a little lamb like it's the most beautiful song in the world. That's how i keep going.
@@lorrieprothero2175 I’m glad to hear it!
I remember a freshman played this shit flawlessly at a UIL performance. I don't know how he did it still lmao
Such a beautiful tone. I play this piece but would love to play on one of his amazing flutes some of them cost as much as a car.
Sir James Galway has such amazing tone, it's insane
This is the tone of Sir James Galway :)
I have to play this for 12th grade All District in a few months. As pretty as it sounds, my fingers know nothing but pain 🥲

Marvellous piece brilliantly played, and such a fabulous flute tone, too!
I have to play this for my county and district band auditions next school year. I just looked at it for the first time and I’m terrified.
Amazing piece - so fine and elegant!
This is so beautiful!! It's currently my solo for this year (for context im a sophomore in HS), and my fingers and lungs are DYING, but it's sounds wonderful!
Oh really what did you score on the piece?
@@angelcano1142 haven't entered any competitions or anything yet but I did use it for a scholarship audition and I did get one (can't say which university for privacy)
@@angelcano1142 haven't performed it yet but am looking foward to it! this will also probably be my piece for a bunch of auditions later this year. my next solo is Doppler's Hungarian Pastorale Fantasie
Ótima aula, além de excelente execução..!
I wish I was good enough to play this 🙃
Ein richtiges Fundstück! :-)

James Galway
Reading is fundamental
Too much vibrato
I think this much vibrato is standard for a piece like Chaminade.
nope
Bs
Waiter, take this back: too much whipped cream. Too much chocolate. Too much cake, too much pie. Too much bourbon in this glass, barkeep!
On a more serious “note,” this piece is pure unadulterated schlock. It needs to be played precisely as Maestro Galway plays it: big glorious warm ringing tone, lots of rhythmical expressiveness and flexibility, and dollops of luscious vibrato lovingly ladled over top of the whole thing!
