Cécile Chaminade - Arabesque No.1, Op.61

  • This piece composed in 1892.
I don't know, it is a great piece, but it feels a bit schizophrenic to me? :D The rhythms are folkloristic, the harmonic progressions comprehensible, and all in all there is an interesting structure. Of course this is not a playing short time after first sight, it is a difficult piece ; I knew this for some years already but today by chance I figured out that there was no score video on TH-cam so,... yeah you know.
If you can, I would very much appreciate it if you donate any amount for my work in this channel:)

    Beautiful!
My grandfather, the musician Alberto Williams assisted in London 1890-1900 to a concert by Cécile Chaminade and wrote a protofeminist article in a journal of Bs.As. about it, praising enormously this great pianist and composer .

Wonderful. I discovered this French female composer (whom I knew only by name) thanks to her Concertino for the flute, which I heard this morning on (French) Radio Classique.

Yeah i'm getting angry, I spent 8 years studying music in university, trying to get into classical / romantic etc since I came from a completely different background... And no teacher ever mentioned the works of Chaminade. This speaks to me so much more than anything Chopin ever wrote, that recurring theme is insane and the whole thing is a rollercoaster.

@@cooltrades7469 I... did get into that music, this is literally what I'm saying, I spent 8 years studying it.
I'm angry that pieces written by women were completely overlooked for the entirety of my education, because this speaks to me more than the ones I was taught about.
I have no idea what you tried to say but I'm clarifying, I guess ?

I find it curious that so many piano composers ignore duplication of notes in the treble and bass clefs. Listen at 2:56. In the score the right hand plays c, a, f, e flat (top to bottom) half notes. On the second beat, the righthand plays the f and e flat again, even though those notes are sustained in the treble clef.

schizophrenic? in architecture there is the term eclecticism, mashing different things/styles together which often don't mix very well. romantic music is generally very experimental and freeform (in contrast to i.e: renaissance music, where suspense is carefully crafted). classical music on the other hand has comparatively lack of sophistication when it comes to texture, baroque (especially late era) a lack of rhythmical variation.
