  • With similar blade gaps & exotic metal I thought a fun comparison would be the Lambda Athena vs Yates Merica.
    I wanted to compare the Athena to a more common but premium razor for viewers to get an idea how the 2 compare.
    Both razors are fantastic choices & great shaves with unique features on both.

    Great shave and comparison. I really like the Lambda, I think it is my grail in terms of razors. I have not tried the yates but heard great things. I do enjoy razors that let you play with the angle and offer many cutting angles, I feel like it allows for tuning your shave for optimal comfort if you have the right technique.

      @saguarosmart4100 you get it! That’s exactly what I meant with the lambda you can play with the angle. I also prefer razors like that. I didn’t like the Henson with that mega locked in angle that’s another reason I opted to try the Merica over the winning model. The lambda are really nice pieces. I’ll compare them both next I think.

    Nice comparison. I've been thinking about a Yates and see-sawing between the Winning and the Merica. May look more into the Merica.

      @lawrencewhitaker I did the same exact thing. I saw more ppl not liking the winning saying it’s rough or still too mild. More ppl seem to like the Merica that dislike it. I found such and epic deal on this used titanium one I figured if I don’t like it I could seek it and break even at least.
      For me it’s a perfect Goldilocks razor. In stainless steel it’s a hell of a bargain! I did a long review of just the Merica if you didn’t see it. I would still love to try someone’s winning v2 and a 921 one day.

      @jmac thanks shaving brother! Ps I got that kamisori feather and pro guard blades. I only had time to dabble once with it so far. Way better than a cheaper shavette but not exactly ready to do a 3 pass with it yet! I’ll keep going with it. It was the 1st time using a shavette or straight razor where I felt with practice I can get the hang of it and maybe even enjoy the shave!
      I also ordered the Karve bison 😎

      @@Stubblemeetssteel you’re welcome! And ooooh the Bison is fantastic, you’ll love it. Glad to hear the Kami arrived… best thing about ahavbetes is you can pop the blade out and practice. Try making a lather, remove the blade and practice your movements with both hands, you’ll be a pro before you know it.

      @michaelhunyadi5087 I have more vintage SE then modern so a little hard for me to give you 5 modern. That said. Shield gem, Parker solo edge, leaf thorn in that order.
      Adding vintage would be Gem Featherweight Gen 1, Gem Clog pruf peerless gen 2, Schick injector G series in that order.
      That’s what I like for daily or every other day razor with a medium coarseness beard.

    It can have a beautiful box, stand, and appearance, but if it performs worse than Aylsworth Apex, then I'm not interested. The same as I wouldn't be interested in any car if it didn't have the reliability of Lexus. Life is too short not to have the best, most enjoyable items :))

    would it benefit the Athena to thin the lather making it more slick? easier to rinse too.

    I made the same point about comparison shaves during my gamechanger vs timeless video. The comparison is still useful since you're comparing the feel of the razor, and the overall satisfaction of using it, but like you said, the result tends to be the exact same between the two razors. Great video John. Both razors look amazing for different reasons. I think personally I would prefer the Yates, but that may just be my USA pride showing! Keep on keeping on brother. Side note, one of the reasons I prefer my sig sauer over my Glock is because the case the sig came in was so much nicer. Not that it was a premium case or anything, but if I'm traveling, I feel no need to break out the big pelican, I just take the sig case. Good point there.

    • @Stubblemeetssteel
      @Stubblemeetssteel  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ Colletteclassic thanks for all that. You defiantly get it all! Ultimately I’m just trying to give the viewers as much info about each razor as I can so they can make informed purchases for their desired need or wants.
      Some guys love a fancy case, some don’t care so I felt it’s an important thing to mention. Thanks for watching!

    I have both the winning and merica on order for about a month. Like getting you hands on a leprechaun 😂 trying to wait patiently but going broke buying other razors on the meantime. Yates seems to be really backed up right now.

      @danblacksher6289 I was waiting for the winnning since before x mas. I thought I saw another buddy say it was available again this week but I didn’t get any notifications. I bought the Merica instead & it nails it out of the park for my needs. Perfect Goldilocks daily razor for me. Yates makes handles and items for other companies. I think that pays the bills more or something. I also bought a pile of razors while waiting 😂
      I ordered a Karve bison to try. I hope you get your Yates razors soon & curious what you think of them! Keep me posted.

    Actually it be very interesting to compare the Athena to the Outlaw. I consider the latter as the best bang for the buck as far as premium razors go. I dont really know if the Athena is worth such a high cost

    • @Stubblemeetssteel
      @Stubblemeetssteel  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @skoulikantera it’s honestly like buying guns, cars, scotch. Finding what suits your fancy & needs. Do u like more or less blade feel, what metal and finishes do you want, do you want the mega premium display box or low production razors that are more rare? It’s not that the shave is that much better. I can get a great shave off a $10 Bali 176. The premium razors too me are about the whole package including the shave.
