This is a video of a nice GT I caught while casting poppers from the rocks at the Montebello Islands. I give a little insight into the gear we use as well
I had a school of 10 lb fish come up behind the boat just last week! I only pulled one from it though. Yes we have a good Yellowtail Kingfish fishery here in Australia. A great target on lures, surface poppers, vertical jigging and live baiting are popular methods here.
have you ever heard of surface iron fishing, we in the states throw a 8 in jig on a 9 ft rod with 40 lbs for yellowtail, and get the same kind of visual excitement, and wolf-packing, except we can't catch them off the rocks. Sounds like a fun time thx for the video
maybe 4oz or less, a Tady 45's or a Salas 7x are a few good surface irons. If you ever do get one, make sure you ask them to find you a swimmer, and if it spins in the water its garbage. Have you ever caught a Kingfish?
@hmlanding Sounds like fun. We do a similar thing here in Australia. How heary are the jigs you cast? 8inch metal jig would be hard work casting all day!
Great catch and an even better release.
this is awsome fish!!! congrats for the catch!!! i'm very of people like you that have respect for the sea and his residents!!
Fantastic, I think I'd wet myself if I saw action like that! Well done, great video! ATB.

This looks like one of the most fun way to catch fish, but it would be cool to see the fish come up and hit the popper

@hmlanding It was the first cast for the day and we didn't have the camera ready!! The strike was awesome as we had 3 GT's come up and swipe at it
