As a small batch soap and body product business owner, can I just say THANK YOU! I just love that how you understand these and stand up for the small guy! 😊
I’ve been wondering how to use a bar soap on my beard to get the most out of it. I usually just lather in my hands and scrub it in. Glad to know there’s no wrong way. Thanks for another great video Dan!! 🙏🏻
My go to is Honest Amish. I’ve used many bar soaps but theirs is the only one where I don’t need to condition after washing. This is great for me because I’m always running late and those 2-3 mins with conditioner in seem like an eternity
I've been using bar soaps for quite some time now. I love how they make my beard feel after every use along with how much cleaner I feel. My all time favorite bar soap has to be Pine Tar. I love the smell, the refreshing feel after. If I could change anything I've experienced using bar soaps would be, I wish the company's would start making HOTEL size bar soaps that equal the same as there regular size soaps. I cut my soaps in half anyway and would feel this would help with longevity of the soap plus would make it great for traveling. Other than that, if I could recommend also that after every use, rinse your bar off and pat dry with a towel. I've had bars literally last over a year doing this.(NOT JOKING) Awesome video Dan! 👊
For me, Dr. Squatch “zero grit” bar soaps work great for my beard. I clean my beard with them once a day while taking a shower. Oil and butter (no wax contained) afterwards. 🤘
@@DanCBearded Thanks. I’m fortunate. Due to my job, it’s best to clean my beard on the daily. So far, there hasn’t been major damage. I attribute it to the contents of Dr. Squatch’s soap being less harsh than others. Is Mr. Fuzzyworthy’s Beard Shampoo bar bad? I use it once every week or every other week with their Beard & Hair Detangling Conditioner bar. It feels like it strips, but wonder if it does too much.

I use Honest Amish Beard & Body Soap ( The Slick version ) I love that it is all natural too. I only use it on my beard though, but it leaves it nice and clean, and ready to apply my oil and balm. I only use the wash every third day, and have found that works perfect for my daily/weekly routine. I also cut the big bar into small “hotel sized” bars. Each lasts about 2-3 weeks. While the rest sits in a ziplock, up in a cabinet. Good video again Dan!

@Dan C Bearded I really like it. I also took notice of you saying you like to use a variety so I do plan on using BABC stripperwash as well. I already use Hogwash for my daily wash. I didn't hear you mention that in your video for daily wash. I believe that after listening to you, praise BABC that you would recommend it.
@Dan C Bearded By the way, I did let BABC know that I was using their stripping wash because you highly recommended it. I look forward to watching more of your post.
I use honest amish for everything related to my beard they have prefect beard soaps plus I work in a kinda growdy environment so I use beard soap everyday I’m confused should I not do it every day? My beard looks good and my skin is healthy but I don’t want to damage my beard on the long term
Is this the case for all bar products? Or is there any beard wash products in bar form? Something like a beard wash that's more gentle and doesn't strip.
I love the videos Dan! Thanks as always for the great advice! I use a locally made pine tar soap for stripping twice a week. Most days I’m using a light wash like LCW. I have to get some of that WNHT solid wash and give it a shot!
It works very well in my beard and some of my favorite company's use BTMS. I know it doesn't work for everybody. Genuinely curious why in the wash but not oil or butters? Care to elaborate? Thanks Dan. Been watching since day one
@@codyrobinson157 oh yeah, very simple. BTMS is an emulsifying ingredient. Meaning it is meant to help mix ingredients together that normally do not mix well. Most common example would be water and oil. You cannot put water and oil in a bottle, shake it, and expect them to mix. Emulsifying ingredients help them mix together. This makes total sense for washes and conditioners because they have ingredients that do not play well togethers. Balms, butters, and oils DO NOT and should not have any ingredients that do not mix well. Example, they should not have water. Even more importantly with the final point, wash and conditioners are rinse out products. BTMS ingredients are not meant to absorb or sit on your skin or hair. In those cases they act as a fake silicon like ingredient. Meaning they can in the short term make your beard feel and look good, but in reality they are suffocating the beard and harming it. You may not notice it tomorrow, next month, or even next year, but it will show itself at some point. Your beard will not style as well, it will not grow as fast, it will shed more, you will have beard pimples, and all sorts of other complications. As compared to using better suited ingredients. This is something I have studied and worked with really in-depth and I am very happy to talk about. I haven't made a video dedicated to it, because company owners can be sensitive and I do not want any crying and saying I am targeting them. So I just address it when people ask me, like in this comment. Please keep the questions coming if you have any! Truly happy to help!
I really enjoy bar soaps to cleanse my body daily. I use a lot of small-batch company bar soap, but I focus on those who make their own versus buying it from a bigger company. Questions: 1) What about active charcoal in the bar soaps, is that healthy, and should that be in all soaps? 2) What about ostrich oil bar soap? Is it still stripping? 3) Are Pure-Castile bar soaps any good for the beard? 4) Is there a major difference between pine tar soap bars or is it mostly the scent?
1) great option, normally really stripping 2) That is an interesting one, less stripping but less cleaning 3) nooooooo terrible! 4) Pine tar is it's own word! I can't grab the link right now [at work lol] but if you search "dan c bearded pine tar soap" you should find me video on it. Great questions!
Seen some comments on Dr Squatch. Have you tried or reviewed them Dan. My go to is Beard Octane pine tar. Love the smell and the way it feels. Would like to find a quality pine tar without the grit for my wife and kids.
So when you quarter the bar soap do you keep the quartered piece your using in the shower on the metal tray after your done showering or store it somewhere else
Hey Dan! I been using grandpa's pine tar soap for years never had a issue long as you follow up with good beard oil. Love your channel l look every morning for new notifications lol it's awesome to love what you do. Merry Christmas to you and family
I use Beard Octane Conditioning Wash for everyday use, is the Honest Amish Soap a good option for stripping once a week ? Or is it better just to use Beard Octane Conditioning Wash?
@@DanCBearded would you say it is worth the purchase. I mean ive tried alot of Honest Amish products but ive never once have tried a beard soap of any kind to strip away the build up.
Hi Dan. I use WNH Beard Wash Bar Soap for my beard and WNH regular bar soaps for my body. The Beard Wash Bar Soap is so good and easy. Just put the puck back in metal tin and put in my bathroom closet. I use a rubber soap saver for regular WNH soaps. Thanks Dan, appreciate you and all the work u put in your videos
Unfortunately that is correct. The bearded Mack purchased most of their formulations, but the soap is not one. The magic is in the creator on those and Holly is out of the soap making game

Nice video. I have a question about small batch. When you talk about small batch beard companies, how big can they get before they are not small batch anymore? For example who's the biggest small batch company you deal with?
That’s a really tough question! Small batch to me is the owner is still primarily doing most of the work. Maybe with the help of an employee or two. Beard octane would be an example of a successful small batch
Awesome vids here! Thanks! I have been using a liquid wash on my beard and once a week will wash it through 2 or 3 times to get ALL product out. You think this is ok rather then using a stripping bar soap? I have issue with a lot of the beard bar soaps as they use coconut oil, I have a pretty nasty reaction on face to coconut. Any help would be appreciated!
Cool video Dan. I live in Colombia and there aren't any beard soaps available locally. I have tried using small-batch, natural body soaps but I have found them too stripping. As there aren't any beard washes as well, I use Johnsons chamomile baby shampoo twice a week. I was wondering what would you say is a sign for needing to use bar soap on the beard? Also, what ingredients should be avoided and looked for when buying bar soaps?
I find I need to strip the beard when it just isn't styling well and seems to be "heavy". The ingredients to look out for is a really tough question. Unfortunately it isn't as simple as that with bar soap
Is the Dr. Sasquatch pine tar a good quality healthy stripping soap for the beard? Also, are the Honest Amish beard/body soaps stripping or washing? How are they for quality/health?
Honest amish bar soaps are stripping and they are fantastic! I enjoy those. Dr S is really solid. Not the best but not bad at all. I also enjoyed their bar soap.
Hey Dan, how do you know if a bar soap is 1. Okay for your beard, and 2. Stripping or gentle? Up in Canada now, and I stumble across a guy who makes beard oil, which are quality and I love. He also has bar soap he uses head to toe, so I got it to try for my beard as well but not sure what to ask or look for, to know how it’ll impact my beard. He said he uses it daily and doesn’t dry out his skin. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated, thanks!
Grate video as always! Iv only been growing my beard for 10 months and I don’t have a big budget for soaps, oils , butters. And here in the uk im un able to get my hands on beard octane unless I go to over seas shipping but then it’s big money. But I do my best to get quality there is a company here that dose the Detroit grooming company butters and it’s been the best so far ok ok we’re talking soaps here 😁any uk beards men out there got a good gentle wash recommendation ? I’m currently using gnarly joe 100% natural beard shampoo it’s geranium bourbon African black soap with shea butter and coconut oil. So far I like it but it dose lather up loads is this bad ? I also use Shea Moisture Maracuja oil & Shea Butter beard wash so far I like them 🙂any thoughts on these people ?
I been wondering for sometime now Dan, have you, or do you ever use Beardbrand products, i/e oils, balms, and obviously washes/co-washes? Just wondering cause I haven’t seen/found or come across a video from you on them or about the products they offer yet!? Is there any ill or bad feelings for them or the company?
Yup! I love beardbrand! Great company, awesome products, and love the scents. My first beard gift I ever asked for was a bottle of beardbrand. If you search “dan c bearded beardbrand” there should be a few videos that come up
Nice video, Dan, with some good information. However, A “niche” is not a shelf, it is an indentation, a recess in a wall. Old homes had a niche for “candlestick” phones, or for religious icons or statuary. Also, while I don’t use beard bar soap I do use a loofah. In no way is it suitable for any application to beard hair longer than stubble.
I can only ask you your personal experiences, I would love to hear other's results, what do you think of BeardBrand's utility bar? If brand names were removed what about the future of a multi purpose bar soap? Whiskey and Hard tack CAN be a full body soap on a tecnical level. I love utilitarian products but understand some things cannot be substituted. I would love a separate video in the future breaking down the chemistry of 'high end.' At the moment I use BB as a bar shampoo for my hair and body. I also bought some various strip soaps, cut them in cubes and throw them in a body scrub pouch. The downside to some of the more hydrating multi purpose soaps, in my opinion, is lack of smell. Using something like Dr Squatch then rinsing off with a bar like BB seems to give me great overall body hydration for the skin.
@@DanCBearded I'll leave the videos to the pros like you but based off a quick ingredient check, Whsikey and Hardtack use a similar mixture of a fat and cleanser/smell. Beard Brand uses mostly Shea Butter, Whiskey and Hard Tack a blend of olive, coconut and more. At the end of the day the best soap will speak for itself.
There is a small soap company in the town i live in that makes all natural soaps and other products too, do you think something like that would be safe for beard use ? I use Professor Fuzzworthy's do you feel this is a good product. Also, I find their magnetic soap holder to be awesome.
I haven’t tried that one yet, but plan to this year!
I love the honest Amish soap! I would not use it daily though. I would find a more gentle wash to rotate in
@@DanCBearded Got it thank you so much ❤️🙏
Yeah Dan ! Get em !!!
Of course!
Is this the case for all bar products? Or is there any beard wash products in bar form? Something like a beard wash that's more gentle and doesn't strip.
The solid beard wash bar by the bearded Mack is not a soap and is a gentle wash
Would you recommend honest armish bar of soap, is it any good for beard and body wash
Yup! Just don’t use it on your beard more than once a month
After I finish using my soap bar goes straight on a dry sponge 🧽
Super smart!
If using bar soap, is there a need for a conditioner?
Totally personal preference but I prefer to use conditioner after
So is beard soap the same as a beard wash? Would I also need conditioner?
Beard soap is a stripping wash. Shouldn’t be used more than once a week. Conditioner after is personal preference
I love the videos Dan! Thanks as always for the great advice! I use a locally made pine tar soap for stripping twice a week. Most days I’m using a light wash like LCW. I have to get some of that WNHT solid wash and give it a shot!
That is awesome Tony!
Dan can you recommend a soap with the benefits you mentioned. Do you think honest amish have good beard soaps.
Honest Amish has Great soap! The best soaps I have ever tried are from: Whiskey n Hardtack= www.whiskeynhardtack.com/danc

What about beard octane bar soap ? Good or bad ?
Fantastic! One of my favorites
@@DanCBearded perfect Brother, i just use your code . Getting a couples of things 😅😎
I myself love Whiskey n Hardtacks puck. I'm not the biggest fan of the container it comes in though. Have you changed your stance on BTMS Dan?
Not at all! Big fan of BTMS in rinse out shower product, but do not believe they should be in oils, balms, or butters
Questions:
1) What about active charcoal in the bar soaps, is that healthy, and should that be in all soaps?
2) What about ostrich oil bar soap? Is it still stripping?
3) Are Pure-Castile bar soaps any good for the beard?
4) Is there a major difference between pine tar soap bars or is it mostly the scent?
1) great option, normally really stripping
2) That is an interesting one, less stripping but less cleaning
3) nooooooo terrible!
I have tried, but not reviewed. I will sometime soon though!
I was waiting for this kind of information. Thank you! 1st
Awesome! I’m glad it helped
I know on another video you mention your love for Honest Amish beard and body bar soap but is it a stripping wash?
Yes
So when you quarter the bar soap do you keep the quartered piece your using in the shower on the metal tray after your done showering or store it somewhere else
Yup, exactly! I keep the one I’m using in the shower on the metal soap saver
Hey Dan what is your opinion on Dr. Bronners Tea Tree Castile liquid soap for a beard wash?
I actually made a video on it: th-cam.com/video/wVv6_SPZJvM/w-d-xo.html
Hey Dan! I been using grandpa's pine tar soap for years never had a issue long as you follow up with good beard oil. Love your channel l look every morning for new notifications lol it's awesome to love what you do. Merry Christmas to you and family
Thank you Scott! Merry Christmas!
Dan did you ever use olive oil bar soap and if so would you consider that a stripping soap?
Yes and yes. Stripping
What is the name of your company how do I purchase
I don’t own a company but have many affiliates I work with! For soap, I recommend Beard Octane= beardoctane.com/DANC

I use Beard Octane Conditioning Wash for everyday use, is the Honest Amish Soap a good option for stripping once a week ? Or is it better just to use Beard Octane Conditioning Wash?
Yes and yes! Great daily and then stripping options
@@DanCBearded Any of the Honest Amish soap options will do ?
anyone used honest Amish beard soap? trying to get some opinions on it.
It’s fantastic! In my shower right now
@@DanCBearded would you say it is worth the purchase. I mean ive tried alot of Honest Amish products but ive never once have tried a beard soap of any kind to strip away the build up.
@@rafaelramoscardona3108 yup!
That's awesome MArk! thanks for sharing
Which beard bar soaps would you recommend?
Ive been using Honest Amish bars and they really seem to strip the beard well. Im going to try one of the pine tars, any recommendations?

Seems like WHT is now out of business. So that means their bear wash bars are out of reach? Thanks, Dan.
Unfortunately that is correct. The bearded Mack purchased most of their formulations, but the soap is not one. The magic is in the creator on those and Holly is out of the soap making game
@@DanCBearded Sad news, but hey, life moves on. Any other beard soap bars that you'd recommend? Easier for going through TSA at the airport. Thanks, Dan.

Awesome man!
That sounds like it is working for you and should be perfectly fine!
@@DanCBearded thanks for the reply! You the man, power to ya!
Stupid question, you can use a regular bar soap for body wash on your beard? How often?
No, I would not. I would get one that is designed for beards
I have beard brand’s “utility bar”. Are you familiar with it? Would you consider it stripping?
Yes and yes! Good quality soap though, from my experience
@@DanCBearded thanks!!
Should you condition after every use of bar soap
I mix it up. Sometimes I do but others I go with just oil after
@@DanCBearded thanks Dan
Hey Dan, how do you know if a bar soap is 1. Okay for your beard, and 2. Stripping or gentle?
Up in Canada now, and I stumble across a guy who makes beard oil, which are quality and I love. He also has bar soap he uses head to toe, so I got it to try for my beard as well but not sure what to ask or look for, to know how it’ll impact my beard. He said he uses it daily and doesn’t dry out his skin.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated, thanks!
Hey Dan! If it is a quality soap it is fine for stripping your beard, but soap will never be gentle
@@DanCBearded Thank you!
@ODD RC Have you tried Seven Potions Beard Wash? Dan did a videos on Seven Potions and recommends them to bearded guys living in the UK.
Seven potions has a great beard wash!
Hey Dan hope you're having a great day. For me it's dr squatch lather in hands into beard. Thumbs up for dr squatch or don't use that crap? ✌
Side thumb. Certainly not bad, but it’s also not to the quality of small batch creators
Do you recommend using a conditioner after stripping? That's what I've always done.
Mix it up! Sometimes I do, but others I like to go just right to the oil after and no conditioner in the shower
Thanks for the correction!
I've been using a beard wash and conditioner set I get off Amazon in Canada. It's not easy finding good ones up here
Yeah, it is tough in Canada. I’m trying a Canadian company right now. Review in a few weeks!

I really enjoy the bar soap from beardbrand! I haven't looked into the small details of it, but I loved the tea tree bar
(The naples soap company Naples Florida) also i know this is off subject however have you considered on making a video on men's clothing, specifically what is the best colored shirt to wear to make your beard look fuller, any output is appreciated, great video Dan thanks.......Scott 👍🏆.

Hey, I've been wondering, is there a difference between normal bar soap and bar soap for your beard? I already use some great local small batch bar soaps. Can I just use those on my beard or should I be looking for something more specialised?
Oh man, really tough question! It all comes down to the end result pH level
